While the Thanksgiving special of the Georgie & Mandy spin-off saw several returning faces from Young Sheldon, including Zoey Perry, Annie Potts, and Raegan Revord, unfortunately, Iain Armitage was nowhere to be seen. Although it wasn’t surprising as his character moved to California in the season finale of Young Sheldon, the writers and the actor himself haven’t given up on the idea of a potential cameo.
Before Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage premiered, Steve Holland entertained the idea of bringing Sheldon back, and the Big Little Lies star was pretty upbeat about the prospect of jumping back to his khakis again.
Steve Holland Previously Teased Iain Armitage’s Return in a Holiday Special
Although Iain Armitage is more than thrilled to just sit back and enjoy the new spin-off as a fan, if the call eventually comes, he’d be more than willing to get “in the khakis again“. Steve Holland too teased the prospect of Sheldon’s potential cameo in a holiday special, stressing (via TVLine) that they would love the actor to stop by “for a Christmas or a Thanksgiving [episode]”.
We love all these actors. Sheldon is in Pasadena going to school, but I think for a Christmas or a Thanksgiving [episode], we would love to have him stop by. This is a world where these actors can keep coming and playing. We don’t want to make it a ‘guest star of the week’ thing, but they’re a part of this world.
With the Thanksgiving special ditching it in favor of bringing back other cast members from Young Sheldon, many presumed a potential Christmas special would finally witness Armitage’s return.
But on the flipside, Holland recently confirmed that there are currently no plans for a Christmas special.
No Christmas Special is on the Cards for Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage
Elaborating on their stance on tackling holiday specials, the showrunner expressed (via TVLine) that “one big holiday was enough”. Considering that it hasn’t been too long since the Thanksgiving episode premiered, the writers felt that it was too soon to approach another special.
You know, we figured one big holiday was enough. The trick of it, when you do these big holiday episodes, is that it’s exciting because you can bring in everybody, but it just felt like [to bring in everybody] two weeks after Thanksgiving was going to be too soon.
While the showrunner’s statement doesn’t boost much confidence about Armitage’s potential return in this holiday season, given their previous remarks, a cameo might not be too far.
Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage is available to stream on Paramount Plus.
