“We don’t want it anyway”: Even Euphoria Fans Don’t Want an Actress Who Herself Confirmed She’s Not Returning in Season 3

Euphoria seems to be in a bit of a rut, leaving fans frustrated and uncertain about when the final season will finally arrive. With all the rumors swirling around, no one really knows when we’ll get the last chapter of Rue’s story. Adding to the story thus, Storm Reid, who plays Gia, Rue’s sister, has confirmed she won’t be returning for the next season.

Fans are voicing their thoughts on the news, with reactions ranging from disappointment to curiosity about what’s next for the show. Here is what is happening!

Storm Reid Will Not Return for Euphoria Season 3

Euphoria fans have been waiting a long time for season 3, especially since season 2 wrapped up in February 2022. After a significant delay, production is finally set to kick off in January 2025.

In the meantime, Rotten Tomatoes shared an interview with Storm Reid who plays Gia Bennett on the show at the 2024 Governors Awards, where she dropped a major bombshell that her character, Gia won’t be returning for season 3. She said,

I’m very excited for season 3. Unfortunately, Gia’s not returning to the third season, but I am so so indebted to the cast and the crew of that show, to HBO. Euphoria’s a really special thing and I’m so glad that that’s a part of my legacy and that I was a part of such a cultural phenomenon… I can’t wait to see what season 3 has in store.

Here is what the fans are saying after hearing about the news,

Fans are clearly frustrated with all the behind-the-scenes drama, especially with Sam Levinson and everything else going on. At this point, many are hoping Euphoria should just leave it where it left off.

Other Euphoria Stars Lost Amidst the Hellish Production Delays

Storm Reid isn’t the only cast member stepping away from Euphoria. Barbie Ferreira, who portrayed Kat in the first two seasons, announced her departure in April 2023.

At the Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast, she explained,

I don’t think there was a place for [Kat] to go, I don’t know if it was going to do her justice, and I think both parties knew that. I really wanted to be able to not be the fat best friend. I don’t want to play that, and I think they didn’t want that either.

Tragically, Euphoria also lost a beloved cast member, as Angus Cloud, who played Fezco, passed away unexpectedly in 2023.

With all the shifts behind the scenes, the upcoming third season of Euphoria, set for eight episodes, will look quite different. However, some familiar faces remain, including Alexa Demie, Eric Dane, Maude Apatow, Dominic Fike, and Javon Walton, as fans eagerly await what’s next for the show, despite all the changes.

Euphoria is streaming on Max.
