It was September of 2005 when an iconic show by the name of Criminal Minds started airing. Finding critical acclaim and worldwide success, the show featured Jennifer Love Hewitt in season 10 of the series.
Portraying the iconic character of Kate Callahan in season 10 of the show, Jennifer Love Hewitt’s character was gaining recognition and love from millions of fans. However, the character had a terrible ending which discontinued the entire flow of the series!
Jennifer Love Hewitt Portrayed The Role of Kate Callahan
The premise of Criminal Minds was based on several criminal profilers who worked for the FBI as a member of the Behavioral Analysis Unit. Multiple seasons and episodes focused on criminal minds working and the team solving the cases with their wits.
In 2014, the 10th season of Criminal Minds started airing while introducing the character of Kate Callahan. Portrayed by Jennifer Love Hewitt, her character was given plenty of focus.
Being one of the best undercover agents, Callahan had left the field to live a calm life with her husband. Much to her shock, it didn’t exactly go how she had planned it out to be. In the show (and in real life), Jennifer Love Hewitt was pregnant and it was because of her pregnancy that many things were left incomplete.
Although the filming of the 10th season had started, things had already been so far developed that the production couldn’t re-start. It was then during the end of 2014 that Jennifer Love Hewitt told the showrunner of Criminal Minds that she was pregnant and due the following summer!
Jennifer Love Hewitt Wasn’t Exactly Punctual
According to showrunner Erica Messer, Jennifer Love Hewitt told the crew at the end of October 2014 (when season 10 had started airing) that she was pregnant. Naturally, things had to change.
In an interview with EW, Erica Messer revealed that Love Hewitt was not going to return for season 11 of the show Criminal Minds. The ending turned out to be rushed and incomplete.
Because she’s due in July, when we would start shooting season 11, timing-wise there was no way for her to do both, to be able to give that baby everything she wanted to give that baby and still be on our show.
She further continued,
We wrote to that, and that’s how season 10 ends. It’s a bittersweet idea of ‘life is full of choices and they define who you are.’ She makes the decision to leave the team for a while. It’s really lovely and real, not only because it was happening off-screen, but because I know those things happen in real life too.
In 2020, the show went on a hiatus, and Criminal Minds: Evolution was the result. Per the rumors, the 18th season of the show is still in development and a release date will be announced soon.
With 17 seasons to its name, the show currently stands on a rating of 8.1/10 on IMDb and an equal impressive of 81% on Rotten Tomatoes. Criminal Minds is available to stream on Paramount+ in the U.S.
