When you’re getting ready for a new baby, there’s plenty to consider when finding the best baby gear to purchase. Of course, a safe car set, functional stroller, and swaddles are necessary, but a bassinet is also a major item to research. One sleeper that specialists and pediatrician approve of is the Snoo Smart Sleeper Bassinet — currently 30% off right now for Black Friday 2024 (yes, already)!

In case you didn’t know, the Snoo is known for its sleek design and impressive features — from its top-notch safety features to its soothing technology, it’s no secret that a Snoo is one of the best purchases you can make. But it’s a pricey buy. Typically, the bassinet costs right under $1,700, but for Black Friday, you can score 30% off, bringing the cost down to $1,186.50—the lowest price we’ve ever seen. (Psst … if that still isn’t quite in your budget, certified pre-loved Snoos are available on the Happiest Baby website for $159 a month!).

Not sure if it’s worth it or not? Keep scrolling for my honest review. To prep for my baby girl’s arrival in August, Snoo sent me a test bassinet. (Spoiler alert: It was a major life-saver for me and my husband.)

What We Thought of the Snoo

Senior commerce director here! My daughter was born in late August, and we started her off in the Snoo the moment she came home and needed a nap. She fell asleep (and stayed asleep until her next feeding two hours later), and we also fell asleep—not something I was able to do so easily at the hospital. The rest, as they say, is history.

First of all: It was really easy to set up. It comes in maybe five pieces (the bassinet, plus the legs) that you quickly stick together, and voila—all set up. Next, you plug it in to an outlet. Finally, you download the app and make sure you’re all set up there. You can even use the Happiest Baby app as a food and diaper change tracker, although I ended up going with Huckleberry later on.

My daughter loves, and prefers it over her Big Girl Crib, which we’ll be upgrading her to once she hits six months. But for now, we’re letting the Snoo rock her to sleep, and soaking up the precious handful of hours of sleep we get every night.

The Snoo’s gentle swaying and white noise mimics what me and my husband do to get her to fall asleep (rocking or bouncing her in our arms while Alexa plays white noise), so when we transfer her to the Snoo from our arms, she actually stays asleep. And she’s a big contact napper, so being swaddled, constantly “shushed,” and swayed is totally her jam. Right now (she’s almost three months) she takes 1-2.5-hour naps during the day, and sleeps seven hours straight at night before waking up for some milk, and then going back to sleep for 2-3 hours.

When she *is* fussy, the Snoo automatically intensifies the swaying and the white noise gets turned up—but there have been times I can tell she’s about to start crying and I proactively turn the Snoo’s settings up from my phone, and it’ll calm her right down. If she’s hungry and truly crying for a need not being met, the Snoo WILL stop and alert you that your baby needs your care. We didn’t have any issues with this when she was a newborn and eating every two hours (she let us know juuuuuust fine!).

For warmer months, we used the regular sleep sack that the Snoo came with, but since it’s just dipped into the high 40s in Los Angeles, I’ve switched her over to the cozier sleep sack, and she really likes it.

I’ll be writing a more in-depth review in the coming months, so stay tuned. However, if you’re looking for a quick recommendation so you can take advantage of the Black Friday sale, I’m here to say the Snoo really worked for me and my daughter—and it gave me peace of mind knowing she was sleeping safely all the time.

Why Experts Recommend the Snoo

“In my 15+ years of experience as a pediatric sleep consultant, I confidently recommend the Snoo Smart Bassinet because of its safety features as well as the automatic response to a baby crying,” Nicole Johnson, President/Lead Sleep Consultant at The Baby Sleep Site, says. “The SNOO keeps a baby safely swaddled and on their back, which is recommended by the AAP to reduce the risk of SIDS.”

Johnson also says that the Snoo responds to your baby’s cries by automatically increasing the motion of the bassinet, and it has built-in white noise. “Although I was initially concerned it might lead to babies missing feedings, it will not continue operating if a baby is crying for more than a few minutes,” Johnson added.

Can You Rent the Snoo?

Would you believe us if we told you, that renting a Snoo is an option? Happiest Baby offers a rental on the bedside sleeper for $159 a month, which offers parents an affordable way to have one for their little addition. The rental program is also a great way to test out the sleeper to be sure you want to commit to buying one. Here’s how it works:

-Commit to at least one month of renting the Snoo

-Pick a ship date

-Once it arrives select your commitment term

-Send it back when you’re done in the provided box.

“Each Snoo is fully sanitized and renewed in a 5-step process,” the Happiest Baby says. Your rental also includes a Mattress, an organic cotton sheet, and two organic Snoo Sacks ($100 value), which you can keep even after you return the bassinet.

What Other Parents Say About the Snoo

Parents, from new to veterans, rave about the Snoo Smart Sleeper Bassinet. Ahead, see why they can’t get enough of the sleeper.

“Highly recommend. We decided to rent the Snoo after our first son wouldn’t sleep through the night until 18 months, and during the newborn phase, he wouldn’t sleep unless he was being held,” a satisfied parent said. “We rarely have to use any level outside of the baseline, so it’s a slow rock, and our son is sleeping 7-9 hours a night and he’s currently eight weeks. During the first few weeks, he slept about two to four hours, and around the 4-week mark, we noticed the longer stretches. The rental process was easy, and the Snoo looks brand new.”

Another wrote that the Snoo saved them. “We were desperate to get our newborns to sleep in anything other than our arms the first week we had her,” they said. “We were gifted the rental Snoo from a parent as we were desperate. The Snoo worked right away, and we were finally getting rest! A week In, we had a couple of snafus on some nights, so my wife wrote into their customer service for advice. They quickly responded with several helpful hints that we could try to help soothe our baby girl. The hints worked perfectly, and she slept again with ease!”

“Why did I wait so long?” a Snoo parent wrote.

“We spent the first five weeks taking shifts all night. My son’s pediatrician told me she had a Snoo for her daughter, and it worked for her. I told her they were too expensive, and that’s when she told me about the rental program. I quickly jumped on that, and it has been God-sent! Our little guy finally sleeps on his own, not holding him all night like we were for five weeks. The app tracks the sleep patterns down to the second and lets you know if he is calm or if it needs to soothe him back to sleep. The rental was extremely easy, and I appreciated how clean it was sent. I love that some items are new for every child, so no worries on that end.”

The Snoo is available and on sale for a super limited time only, so hurry before it’s too late!
