As a working mom (and business owner and retired tennis star and fashion icon), Serena Williams has to travel often. Jet-setting to Paris Fashion Week is just part of the job! But that doesn’t mean she doesn’t miss her two young daughters, Olympia, 7, and Adira, 1, who she shares with husband Alexis Ohanian. To stay connected to her daughters, and especially her eldest, Williams has a special ritual she does that will absolutely melt your heart.
The Wyn Beauty founder shared a video on TikTok of her setting up her “out of town” routine for Olympia, and it’s such a sweet idea. “If I ever have to go out of town I make sure I write a lot of letters for Olympia to find,” Williams captioned the video. “Under her bed, in her classroom, in her backpack, at dinner, at breakfast.”
“I think ultimately she gets tired of me 🤪,” she added.
Um, so that is the cutest thing I’ve ever heard! I’ve written my kids letters when I’ve had to travel before, but I didn’t write a ton of random letters to hide all over the house (and their school?!). I will do that now, though, because that sounds so fun for the kids to constantly find and think about their mom.
In the video, Williams sits at a table, writing letters with different colors of Sharpies for extra fun. Each one has its own separate envelope and sticker sealing it shut. As Williams writes and stuffs the cards, she shows the camera quick glimpses of the letters. In one, she wrote, “Olympia, I miss you so much! Be nice to Grandma and Chip. Love you, Mom, Serena.” By the end, she has a whole stack of finished letters, and we know Olympia will love them.
People praised the creative mom in the comments. “She will remember them as she grows older trust me🙂,” one person wrote. Someone else said, “I’m going to start doing this 🤍.” Another wrote, “You’re making such wonderful core memories 🥹💜.”
Earlier this week, Williams shared photos of her family’s matching costumes in honor of her and Ohanian’s anniversary. “7 years has gone so fast … Happy anniversary @alexisohanian thank you for being the best dad to our girls @olympiaohanian and @adiraohanian,” she wrote, adding, “Thanks for also making average November day a costume party and making it special. ❤️❣️”
They look adorable in matching costumes, with Ohanian and Olympia in Greek-inspired costumes and Williams and Adira in white-and-pink clown costumes.
The Reddit co-founder also posted a photo celebrating their wedding anniversary, which happened on Nov. 16, 2017, in New Orleans. “7 years ago today, we got married here. Now we get to bring these two for beignets. Happy Anniversary 🎉” he captioned a selfie of the family of four.
“Thanks for giving me the two greatest humans we’ve ever met. You’re an amazing mama. I’m very lucky to have met you @serenawilliams @olympiaohanian @adiraohanian,” Ohanian added.
It’s clear these girls will never forget how much they’re loved!
