2 weeks agoNews PlusComments Off on Former EastEnders star has had ’40 doctors appointments’ and spent ‘over five figures’ amid gruelling health condition
FORMER Lucy Beale actress Melissa Suffield has shared how she had around 40 GP appointments last year and feels she’s a burden on the NHS.
Melissa Suffield has battled SIBO since December 2023[/caption]
The starlet has unintentionally lost weight since suffering from SIBO[/caption]
Melissa told us last year that she’s back in her pre-pregnancy jeans since her SIBO diagnosis[/caption]
Melissa played the role of Lucy Beale in EastEnders until 2010[/caption]
Fighting for a diagnosis after experiencing “horrible nausea”, Melissa has felt nauseous “ever since” and has spent an eye-watering amount of money on prescriptions.
Melissa also believes that she’s a bigger burden on the NHS now, after having lost weight due to her health condition, compared to when she was bigger before her SIBO diagnosis.
“I am now currently more of a burden on the NHS than I was when I was bigger last year. That is a fact. That is a pure fact,” she told us in an exclusive interview,
“I’ve been bounced around from this department to this department.
“I’ve been requesting tests left, right, and centre. I’m almost at 40 GP visits just this year.”
She then added how she has spent more than five figures and an “obscene amount of money on prescriptions” adding: “I am a bigger burden on the NHS in my smaller body, with my perfect BMI.”
Elsewhere in her chat with us, Melissa spoke of how she has now proven that bigger people are not a burden on the NHS.
“What it [losing weight because of SIBO] has helped me do is prove the point that I’ve always, always made, which is that you cannot define how healthy someone is, by how much they weigh, or how fat you think they look or whatever it is that you think you know,” the former Lucy Beale star told us.
“We say, ‘oh, you know fat people, they’re a burden. Blah! Blah!’ It’s not true. It’s just not true,” she urged.
The former soap star played Lucy Beale from 2004 until 2010.
Hetti Bywater took over the role of Lucy Beale in January 2012.
CAREER U-TURN
This comes as Melissa continues to make a name for herself in the influencing work, with her having just recently signed to a talent agency.
Known for creating body-positive content on her Instagram page, Melissa often promotes self-love by rocking lingerie and styling clothing to give her followers inspiration.
Earlier this week, Melissa announced that she had been signed to Rede Talent – an agency set up by Snowflake Mountain star Liam Brown.
What is SIBO?
SIBO is also known as small intestinal bacterial overgrowth.
According to the Mayo Clinic, the condition occurs “when there is an abnormal increase in the overall bacterial population in the small intestine — particularly types of bacteria not commonly found in that part of the digestive tract.”
Symptoms are listed as a loss of appetite, abdominal pain, nausea, bloating, an uncomfortable feeling of fullness after eating, diarrhea, unintentional weight loss, and malnutrition.
“Buzzing to announce that I’m now signed to@redetalent,” Melissa penned on Instagram.
“They’re a brand new agency already doing some really exciting things and I’m over the moon to be one of their core girls. Absolute dream team.”
TV STARS WORKING TOGETHER
Liam Brown, who previously worked at InTheStyle, has a career in the media just like Melissa.
The young entrepreneur appeared on Netflix’s Snowflake Mountain in 2022.
Speaking to Daily Star in the year that the show came out, Liam slammed Love Island when he said: “I mean like this is a bold statement right?
“But I think this show was so funny. I actually think I’ve laughed more at those eight episodes than I have the whole way through Love Island at the moment.”
Liam went on to say: “I don’t find any of it really [sic], there might be a funny moment, but like I know that my show from start to finish was full of laughs.”

AN APPALLING “sex for shifts” scandal has uncovered how McDonald’s employees were “slapped on the bum” as bosses “placed bets on sleeping with new staff”.
McDonald’s has come under fire over allegations its managers abused and harassed staff[/caption]
Ex-McDonald’s teenage employee Shelby previously told how she was routinely harassed by colleagues[/caption]
McDonald’s UK chief executive Alistair Macrow gave evidence in front of the Business and Trade Select Committee at the House of Commons, London, on Tuesday[/caption]
The firm was hit by fresh claims, including allegations of “sex for shifts” just one year after its UK chief Alistair Macrow apologised over previous staff behaviour.
Macrow had first appeared in front of parliament’s Business and Trade Committee in November 2023 where he told MPs they were working on improving conditions for staff after treatment concerns were uncovered.
Here, we discuss the worst of the allegations made, ranging from sexual harassment to discrimination and homophobia.
Rachel, who got her first job at the chain aged 17, described how older staff would place bets on sleeping with new starters.
She said: “It was soon clear the environment was really toxic.
“I saw older male staff making bets on who could sleep with the new starters and had older guys making comments about my body.”
Rachel also claimed she was once “slapped on the bottom” by her manager after bending down.
One worker also quit her job in the West Midlands at the end of 2023 after claiming she was touched by managers and that customers sexually harassed her.
Another, Shelby, who began working in a Berkshire branch in 2022 aged 16, told of sexual harassment by colleagues being commonplace.
She said: “They’d grope stomach, waists, bums.
“Every shift I worked, there would be at least a comment being made or I’d be brushed, a hand brushed across me, or it would be a more severe thing like having my bum grabbed, hips grabbed.”
She described how one fellow worker in his 50s came up behind her at the counter, grabbing and pulling her on to his groin.
Shelby said: “I just froze – I felt disgusted.”
Claire, who is using fake name, worked at a West Midlands branch until May 2023 when she was forced to quit due to uncomfortable behaviour.
SEX FOR SHIFTS
She told the BBC her shift manager would ask her for sex in return for extra shifts, which she refused.
Claire, who was on a zero-hours contract, was 17 at the time while her boss was in his 30s.
She said: “You don’t expect that to happen.
“It was totally inappropriate.”
She also claims when she tried to raise the issue, she was told to “suck it up”.
One female worker, 20, claimed a male manager at her East of England branch sent hernude images and that she had to leave her job in August last year.
Some staff have also alleged that bosses asked youngsters how may people they had slept with.
Elliott, who is also using a fake name, left his job in the South of England in February 2024.
He said if he had a sister or a daughter he “wouldn’t want them working in McDonald’s”.
When Maccies boss Macrow addressed MPs over a year ago, Elliott said a manager was moved to his store to avoid being disciplined.
This manager was accused of sending sexually explicit messages to female colleagues who were 16-18 years old.
One 19-year-old former employee claimed they were taunted for having a learning disability and an eye condition.
Another staff member who is currently still employed at McDonald’s said: “I’ve had to deal with homophobic abuse.
“My manager said if I can’t deal with it, I should just leave.
“I’ve been called names like ‘f**got’.”
‘ABHORRENT ALLEGATIONS’
In the Commons on Tuesday, McDonald’s was accused of becoming a “predators’ paradise”.
Macrow, who also spoke in Parliament on Tuesday, said of the latest allegations that people are “speaking up” – with 75 claims of sexual harassment being made to McDonald’s directly.
He said 47 have been upheld with disciplinary action, and 29 individuals have been dismissed.
Macrow added: “Those allegations described are abhorrent, unacceptable and there is no place for them in McDonald’s.
“There cannot be any room in our business for people who behave in that manner.
“The measures that are put in place mean that we are able to offer a secure, safe workplace where people are respected and feel included.
“I hear from our people that it is working.”
In November 2023, Macrow issued an apology after similar claims were made, with him admitting he had received around 400 complaints.
A McDonald’s spokesperson has now said: “Ensuring the 168,000 people that work in McDonald’s restaurants are safe is the most important responsibility for both us and our franchisees, and we have undertaken extensive work over the last year to ensure we have industry-leading practices in place to support this priority.
“Any incident of misconduct and harassment is unacceptable and subject to rapid and thorough investigation and action.”
The company added: “Our relentless focus on eliminating all forms of harassment at McDonald’s is led by a newly created team and informed by the experience and guidance of external experts.
“We are confident that we are taking significant and important steps to tackle the unacceptable behaviours facing every organisation.”

WHEN it comes to speaking her mind, Claudia Winkleman isn’t afraid to let loose.
The Strictly Come Dancing host certainly knows how to cha-cha her way through her career, with her charm, humour, and relatable style making her a firm favourite in British media.
Claudia Winkleman certainly knows how to keep the public entertained[/caption]
The 52-year-old has previously revealed how she keeps the spark alive at home[/caption]
She shares three children with her film producer husband Kris Thykier[/caption]
At 52, the dark-haired dynamo shows no signs of slowing down – especially when it comes to her sex life.
Claudia, who is married to film producer Kris Thykier and shares three children – Jake, 21, Matilda, 18, and Arthur, 13 – has proven that the spark is well and truly alive in her marriage.
While she usually keeps her family life private, Claudia, who is famed for her fringe and thick black eye liner, isn’t shy about opening up when it comes to sharing the secrets of a lasting relationship.
In a previous interview, Claudia admitted she fell head over heels for Kris thanks to his “magic characteristics.”
She told OK! Magazine: “What did it for me was how he behaved in restaurants, bars, and planes – basically, just around people. ‘Thanks so much,’ ‘no rush,’ ‘I’ll carry it over for you,’ ‘here, have a drink on us.’”
But that’s not all she’s shared about her love life.
Opening up about the early days of their relationship, Claudia revealed Kris made her feel as though her “head shot off her shoulders” when they stripped down, adding a little spice to their wild sex life.
Having worked as a waitress from the age of 16, Claudia, who hosts BBC‘S The Traitors, said it was that “magic characteristic that tipped her over the edge.”
Claudia also shared that she fell for Kris not just for his charm, but for his intelligence and passion for history, politics, and social issues – serious topics being her “kind of foreplay.”
In an interview with Red Magazine, she emphasised the importance of prioritising her partner, even with her demanding work schedule. “Working too hard puts a strain on things, but we’re still working hard now,” she explained.
In an exclusively candid moment with The Sun, Claudia joked about the pressure we often place on ourselves, saying: “I haven’t had sex with my husband for two days, let’s do it on the stairs.”
Claudia also hinted that her love life might get an extra boost once their eldest son, Jake, moves out of the family home.
Reigniting the flame
She laughed: “I’m sure it will be great.
“Me and my husband will learn how to make stew, read lots of books, and do tickling – that’s code in case anyone’s wondering.”
Hosting The Traitors has certainly brought out a more ruthless side in Claudia Winkleman.
Known for her warm and friendly presence on shows like Strictly Come Dancing and The Piano, Claudia has admitted that watching contestants lose on the BBC murder-mystery show is still gut-wrenching.
Claudia is the host of the BBC show The Traitors[/caption]
In the first series, she was horrified when she had to send two players packing immediately during a brutal line-up task.
“The first meeting I had, they told me I had to send two people home and I just refused,” she recalled. “I said, ‘I can’t.’ They just told me I had to. Now I’m like, ‘What are we going to do?’ This is what the game is. The quicker they go, ‘Oh, OK,’ the better.”
How does The Traitors work and who hosts it?
The Traitors first launched in the UK in 2022, after the Dutch format was acquired by the BBC.
Claudia Winkleman is the show’s host, and has now hosted all three series to date.
How does it work?
It is a reality game show that involves 22 contestants, and some of them are chosen to be The Traitors.
The Traitors sees a group of contestants taking part in “the ultimate game of truth and deception”.
The group of contestants are competing for the chance to walk away with a huge cash prize.
While navigating through a series of challenges, the team are also tasked with figuring out who the Traitors are in the group (usually three contestants).
Each night, the Traitors gather to “eliminate” one of the Faithful, removing them from the competition
Meanwhile, the traitors can be “banished” if they’re successfully outed as a traitor by a faithful.
The winners of the show are either the Traitor who remains undetected or the Faithfuls if they successfully eliminate all the Traitors.
The prize sees the winner could get £120K.
With The Traitors season two already a huge hit, pulling in an average of six million viewers per episode, Claudia’s ready for even more savage twists.
And luckily for her, the masterminds behind the show have an even more brutal bag of tricks lined up for the new cast.
2 weeks agoNews PlusComments Off on Keir Starmer blocks national inquiry into child grooming gangs as Badenoch skewers PM for risking ‘cover-up’
KEMI Badenoch’s bid for a national inquiry into child rape gangs was tonight blocked by Labour MPs.
Sir Keir Starmer wielded his majority to easily defeat a Tory amendment calling for a fresh probe into the grooming scandal.
Some 364 MPs voted to throw out her amendment, dwarfing the 111 in favour – a majority of 253.
Tory shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp said: “It is disgusting that Keir Starmer has used his supermajority in Parliament to block a national inquiry into the rape gangs scandal.
“Labour MPs have put their Party ahead of getting to the truth and turned a blind eye to justice for the victims. Labour MPs will have to explain to the British people why they are against learning the truth behind the torture and rape of countless vulnerable girls.
“We will not let them forget this act of cowardice.”
The PM insisted it was time for “action” instead of the “delay of a further inquiry and has pledged a series of measures to protect kids.
His flagship Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill would have also collapsed has Ms Badenoch’s amendment been allowed to stand.
Nigel Farage supported the Tory bid but accused Ms Badenoch’s outrage as “insincere” given she did not act as a minister.
The PM has dismissed growing demands for a new inquiry, insisting a previous investigation has already uncovered the horrors that shook a series of northern towns.
But later his spokesman appeared to leave the door open for a probe, saying the government “will always remain open-minded” and “listen to local authorities who want to take forward inquiries”.
The Tory leader and Sir Keir locked horns over the grooming scandal – each other accusing the other of failing to take action.
In a heated PMQs spat, Ms Badenoch said: “The Prime Minister called for nine inquiries in the last parliament. Does he not feel that by resisting this one, people will start to worry about a cover-up.”
Her remarks echoed the attacks by Elon Musk who accused Sir Keir of denying an inquiry “because he is hiding terrible things”.
The animated Labour leader hit back at his Tory rival for taking a “short-sighted, misguided, bandwagon-jumping approach”.
He said victims of the rape gangs scandal “want action now, not the delay of a further inquiry”.
Sir Keir warned: “The Jay inquiry, the last national inquiry was seven years which would take us with a further inquiry to 2031, I think action is what’s required.”
The PM said Ms Badenoch had not once spoken in the Commons about the scandal, accusing her of just “tweeting and talking”.
Ms Badenoch blasted back: “Be a leader, not a lawyer. We know that people were scared to tell the truth because they thought they would be called racist. If we want to stop this from ever happening again, we cannot be afraid.”
She added: “It is very possible to have shorter inquiries, especially if they are covering areas that have not been looked at yet.”
US billionaire Mr Musk, the world’s richest man, forced the scandal back into the spotlight with incessant tweets and attacks on Labour figures.
