“One of the most boring parts of my job”: 2nd Greatest Bruce Willis Action Franchise After Die Hard Never Getting a Threequel Now Makes Even More Sense

Bruce Willis found worldwide fame and critical acclaim after starring in one of the best Christmas movies of all time: Die Hard. After the 1988 film, Willis continued to star in action movies with explosions and iconic scenes.

It was his 2nd best action franchise when he revealed that he had gotten tired of one particular thing in these films. The actor was disinterested in even talking about the film and that is why, the Red franchise will never get a third part.

Bruce Willis does not enjoy explosions anymore

It was the year 2010 when a film titled Red was released starring Bruce Willis. The film was an adaptation of the comic book mini-series of the same name which was owned by DC Comics.

With a plot of Willis going on a vengeance quest alongside a team to nab the man who has vowed to kill him, Red was filled with explosive scenes and some iconic action sequences. In 2013, the film got a sequel titled Red 2.

However, it was during his talks in 2013 that Bruce Willis seemed quite disinterested during his interviews. During one of the talks, the actor revealed (via The Guardian) that he did not wish to see explosions anymore.

[Explosions are] one of the most boring parts of my job. When you have seen a few fireballs, it’s not exciting any more. I know part of my audience enjoys the explosions, but to be honest, I’m a bit bored of it now.

He further continued,

I am very clear with who I am. I work in all sorts of films, but the action movies are the ones that generate the most revenue. I like to earn lots of money from those, but I do all types: small productions, mega-projects, medium-sized, even science fiction.

Although the world loved watching Bruce Willis take on these action roles in explosive scenes, the actor revealed that he was diagnosed with Aphasia and Dementia back in 2022. Willis made the bold choice of taking a retirement from acting.

Before his announcement, however, there were lots of controversies and negative remarks about the actor’s Hollywood filmography. That’s when veteran director Quentin Tarantino decided to back his friend.

When Quentin Tarantino had Bruce Willis’ back!

Veteran director Quentin Tarantino worked with Bruce Willis back in 1994 when the two worked on the sets of Pulp Fiction. The film kickstarted a friendship between the two that stayed on for many films and years to come by.

So when Willis’ films started failing at the global box office, the actor received some intense backlash. Remarks of Willis being old and not able to do action anymore were heard while The Razzies (a spoof of The Oscars) had created a special category for the Die Hard actor.

Before his announcement that Bruce Willis was diagnosed with Aphasia and Dementia, Quentin Tarantino had his back. The veteran director revealed in an interview (via The Video Archives) that he was doing all of these films for his family and not for the world.

These movies that he’s been making for these companies have really gone under fire in a really big way and there’s been these kinds of expose articles written about them and talking shit about these movies.

He further continued,

What the f*** is this, what the f*** is Bruce Willis doing this stuff for? [I] decided to watch a few of them to see how Bruce equipped himself.

After the announcement, The Razzies receded the category and the world finally understood the pain and suffering that Bruce Willis was going through. Although a third part in the Red franchise was left unfinished, it brought comfort to the world knowing that Willis was spending time with his family.

The 2010 film that started it all currently stands at a rating of 7/10 on IMDb and a whopping 72% on Rotten Tomatoes. Red is available to stream on AMC+ in the U.S.
