No Avengers Came to Help Him When He Needed It- Sebastian Stan Says Actors Were Afraid to Do Interview With Him After The Apprentice and Donald Trump Drama

Political dramas are no easy feat for even the most seasoned actors in Hollywood. But MCU star Sebastian Stan seemingly pushed his limits and did what initially seemed impossible. Appearing in the titular role in Donald Trump’s biopic The Apprentice, Stan did a phenomenal job. But despite his efforts alongside director Ali Abbasi, the actor faced numerous challenges through the process.

According to recent reports from The Apprentice screening, Sebastian Stan addressed the controversies that emerged following Donald Trump’s rageful comments towards the biopic. Recalling the aftermath of Trump’s remarks, Stan noted how his Hollywood colleagues and former MCU co-stars gradually became hesitant to sit for an interview with him regarding the political drama.

Sebastian Stan Failed to Find a Supportive Colleague for His Variety Interview

With a number of iconic films and a handful of superhero roles under his belt, MCU star Sebastian Stan recently ventured into a challenging realm with his political drama The Apprentice. Playing the role of the American politician Donald Trump in his biopic, Stan did a phenomenal job in exploring the 78-year-old’s rise to prominence.

Following his brilliant role, Sebastian Stan thus earned the opportunity to appear in Variety’s Actor on Actor interview. However, during The Apprentice screening (via @MaggieMinLA) alongside filmmaker Ali Abbasi, Stan recalled losing the opportunity after failing to find another actor who would share the screen with him and discuss his recent work.

You know I had an offer to do Variety Actor on Actor this Friday and I couldn’t find another actor to do it with me, because they were too afraid to go and talk about this movie.

And it’s not about pointing at anyone specific but we couldn’t get past the publicist, the people representing them [actors] because they were too afraid to talk about this movie.

Although several MCU stars including Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, and Scarlett Johansson have previously shared the screen for Variety’s Actor on Actor segment, none of them seemingly came to save the day for Sebastian Stan, when he needed them the most. Unfortunately, the drama surrounding The Apprentice seemed too controversial for even the Avengers stars.

Sebastian Stan’s The Apprentice was Marred by Challenges and Controversies

According to reports from New York Magazine, the controversies surrounding Donald Trump’s origin story aren’t new. Apparently, the film faced its first challenge when it struggled to find a distributor and almost got banned before its release. Gradually, as the film overcame the initial challenges, The Apprentice faced legal threats from the Trump team.

Considering how the film exposed Donald Trump popping amphetamines, getting liposuction, r*ping his first wife Ivana, and developing various despicable traits, the filmmaker received a cease-and-desist letter that threatened to block the film’s release. However, rising above the challenges, The Apprentice arrived in theaters, just a few weeks before Election Day

Thereafter, Donald Trump took to his Truth Social account to rail against The Apprentice, calling it “fake and classless”. Demeaning director Ali Abbasi and the stars appearing in the film, Trump accused the movie of being “cheap, defamatory, and politically disgusting”. Stating how the film was strategically released right before election day to hurt his campaign, the politician hoped for the film to bomb at the box office.

My former wife, Ivana, was a kind and wonderful person, and I had a great relationship with her until the day she died. The writer of this pile of garbage, Gabe Sherman, a lowlife and talentless hack, who has long been widely discredited, knew that but chose to ignore it.

So sad that HUMAN SCUM, like the people involved in this hopefully unsuccessful enterprise, are allowed to say and do whatever they want in order to hurt a Political Movement, which is far bigger than any of us. MAGA2024!

Eventually, released in theaters on October 11 from Briarcliff Entertainment, The Apprentice visibly struggled at the box office. As per THR, the movie opened to an estimated $1.6M, while prerelease tracking hoped for the film to open in the $3M range. According to The Numbers, Sebastian Stan’s film has made an overall $9M collection against its $16M budget.

The Apprentice is currently available to watch on Prime Video.
