The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted hazy weather conditions across the country from Wednesday to Friday. According to the weather outlook released on Tuesday, January 7, in Abuja, the forecast period will be marked by moderate dust haze with horizontal visibility ranging from 2km to 5km. In the North Central region, moderate dust haze is also expected, with similar visibility conditions. The inland cities of the South are anticipated to experience cloud patches in a hazy atmosphere throughout the period, while the coastal cities will witness early morning mist or fog. Later in the day, the coastal areas will see cloud patches in hazy conditions. NiMet further predicted slight dust haze in the northern region, with visibility improving throughout the forecast period. However, on Friday, moderate dust haze is expected in the northern region, with horizontal visibility ranging from 2km to 5km. Localized areas in parts of Zamfara, Katsina, Kano, Kebbi, Sokoto, and Kaduna states could experience visibility of less than 1km. For the North Central region, NiMet expects slight dust haze with good visibility, while cloud patches in a hazy atmosphere will prevail over the inland cities of the South. The agency has advised the public to take necessary precautions due to the dust particles suspended in the air, particularly people with respiratory conditions such as asthma. NiMet also recommended that airline operators obtain airport-specific weather reports to ensure effective flight planning.
