Among the franchise’s most controversial and jaw-dropping moments is the death of Zara Young, played by Katie McGrath. And the interesting fact is that she actually asked for it! Here is the full story!

The Most Unnecessarily Gruesome Death in Jurassic World History!

Fans can all unanimously agree that Katie McGrath left quite an impression in Jurassic World, and not just because of her role as Zara Young, Claire’s British assistant. Zara from the get go was different, and unique, that made her stand out.

But to be honest, what really cemented her place in franchise history was her over-the-top death scene. In what is arguably one of the darkest and most unforgettable deaths in the Jurassic series ever, Zara finds herself in a chain of chaos, first snatched by a Pteranodon, then dropped into the lagoon, grabbed again by another Pteranodon mid-screech, only to meet her ultimate end in the jaws of a Mosasaurus.

And fans really can’t get enough of it, this is what they are saying,

Some fans speculate that Zara’s jaw-dropping death was the result of the director having a particularly twisted vision of a 4 year old, or that she might have annoyed someone on set, or that someone really had it out for her. But nope, none of that is true.

It Was Katie McGrath Who Wanted That Brutal Death Scene

Zara’s infamous, over-the-top death in Jurassic World wasn’t a fluke, nor was it born out of behind-the-scenes drama, it was entirely Katie McGrath’s idea. As reported by TV Tropes, this scene, originally written for a random extra, when McGrath came across the script, she saw the potential for it to be a standout moment and ran with it. She suggested Zara take center stage in the jaw-dropping sequence, and the filmmakers were more than happy to oblige.

It’s rare for an actor to campaign for such a brutal exit, but McGrath made it her mission to leave a lasting impression, and boy, did she deliver. In the Making of video (via YouTube/ Rosheen) of that particular scene, she says,

I’m going to die, die like in a very cool way. They’re gonna pull me up on that crane straight up in the air. There are like eight people around me so that I don’t die because that’s a possibility.
