Major development in ex-Rangers star Borna Barisic’s contract showdown with Trabzonspor – as agent breaks silence

BORNA BARISIC spent six years at Ibrox before heading to Trabzonspor on a free transfer this summer.

But recent reports in Tukey have suggested the former Rangers man will be on the move again in January after just five months in Trabzon.

Barisic swapped Scotland for Turkey in July alongside fellow departed Ger John Lundstram.

The former Sheffield United midfielder has been enjoying his first stint abroad so far, having been involved in every single fixture since arriving.

But the same can’t be said for Barisic.

The Croatian has only started ONE game for manager Senol Gunes this season.

His poor start led to fears over his future in Turkey and it was claimed last week that his representatives had been summoned to negotiate a deal that would result in a mutual termination of his contract.

However, Barisic’s agent has now spoke for the first time the revelations came to light.

Ives Cakarun has rubbished all the talk and insists his client has no interest in leaving the club any time soon.

He said: “Borna Barisic has a long-term contract with Trabzonspor and we have no plans to leave at the moment.

“His relations with his club are very good and continue professionally.”

Barisic’s current deal runs on until the summer of 2026.

The left-back agreed a two-year deal with Trabzonspor, while Lundstram signed on for three years.

It was revealed earlier this season though that Barisic would be able to match Lundstram on three years – as long as he is in the starting XI for at least 50 per cent of their league ties in the 2025/26 season.

But it looks unlikely he will able to trigger that clause next year going by his struggling start in Turkey.
