James Gunn has been accused of favoritism multiple times over the last few years, as creators and actors close to the director often end up in films that he makes. It seems that the same is true for Peacemaker, one of the few projects that will be mostly canon in James Gunn’s new DCU.
James Gunn has revealed that Peacemaker Season 1 will be canon in the DCU, with Peacemaker Season 2 taking place in it. Along with this, James Gunn’s other project in the DCEU, The Suicide Squad, will also be canon in the new and improved DCU.
Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters is going to confirm which parts of the DCEU would be canon
James Gunn managed to create some of the greatest characters in the DCEU, be it the cast he put together for The Suicide Squad or the characters he created for Peacemaker Season 1. In fact, the director also managed to elevate characters like Amanda Waller, who was part of the narrative before James Gunn entered the DCEU.
It is known that most of the work that James Gunn did with the DCEU will have some place in the DCU, which is trying to marry video games, animation, and film into one cohesive narrative, with the same actor voicing them throughout these media.
James Gunn has revealed that Creature Commandos and Chapter 1 of the DCU in general are going to reveal what parts of the DCEU will remain canon. Audiences are also aware of the fact that Amanda Waller, played by Viola Davis, is going to hold strong and appear in the DCU, with a show of her own.
James Gunn needs to fine-tune the projects transferring to the DCU
James Gunn has a knack for casting his friends and family into the projects that he makes. John Cena remains one of the only few actors who will be carrying over from the DCEU into the DCU. However, there are some nitty gritties that Gunn will have to keep in mind.
For example, Sean Gunn has been cast as Maxwell Lord in the DCU, despite having played Calendar Man in The Suicide Squad. The actor will also be playing G. I. Robot and Weasel, which begs the question of whether actors will be playing double and triple roles in live-action as well.
James Gunn’s friends still have some slots they could fill inside the DCU, like the fact that Chris Pratt, who is a frequent collaborator with James Gunn, has not yet been cast in it. Fans have come up with all sorts of characters that the actor could play in the MCU, such as one of the younger Lanterns, or characters like the original Blue Beetle.
Peacemaker Season 2 will begin streaming on Max in August 2025.
