Dragon Ball DAIMA is Making a Huge Mistake by Blatantly Replacing One of the Most Important Characters of the Franchise

The initial skepticism around Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball DAIMA was huge, but all those hints of doubt were cleared when the show came out. The canonical franchise of the mangaka received yet another alluring concept that has appealed to the masses who are returning to watch the lore surrounding Goku and his friends.

The series has taken inspiration from Dragon Ball GT and has already become one of the most-watched anime released during the fall season. While the series continues to showcase something new, it tends to repeat one grave mistake in each of its series, which might just upset some viewers in the modern era.

Little did we know that DAIMA would continue to focus more on its male characters and rarely feature any major female characters in the series. However, it looks like the show continues doing that and is audaciously attempting to replace its one major female character, Bulma.

Dragon Ball DAIMA Continues to Make The Drastic Mistake of Replacing its Major Female Character

It’s no mistake that in the realm of anime and the Shonen genre in particular, Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball has stood at the top of its peak, leaving an indelible mark on global pop culture and becoming a source of inspiration for the new-gen mangaka.

The franchise focuses majorly on epic battles and heated rivalry following its two protagonists, Goku and Vegeta, two Saiyans who have a relentless drive to become the strongest mortal beings in Universe 7. However, it features one glaring con in the franchise that has been evident in each of the series, including its recent addition, Dragon Ball DAIMA.

While the series thrives on featuring strong fighters and antagonists, it tends to deviate from the fact that its female presence is nonexistent. Though Bulma often makes the fans contradict this notion, it looks like DAIMA wants to take away that option as well.

In each of the series, the screen time of Bulma and other characters is cut heavily. In DAIMA, apart from the first couple of episodes, she has not been featured at all. It is quite striking and discomforting to watch the show because Chi-Chi, Bulma, 18, and even Videl play a major role in the show.

Their dynamic personalities bring something new to the table, making the storyline more intriguing to watch. The show has gained significant depth, demonstrating the progress made by all the characters since it was aired for the very first time in 1986.

Sadly, if the series continues to progress on its path and blatantly attempts to replace one of its major female characters, it might just fail the Bechdel test. However, more importantly, the fans would not forgive the show for making such a morbid mistake.

Dragon Ball Fans Have Grown Deep Attachment To Bulma

A major topic of debate that has been present in the Dragon Ball franchise is “Who happens to be the most important character in the franchise?” One can say that Grandpa Gohan, or Master Roshi, has played a crucial role in making Kakarot the warrior he is today.

However, the fans have a different say in this, where a fan page (@DBPerfectShots) shared a picture of Bulma with the caption “The most important character in Dragon Ball.” The comment section was filled with a positive take on the character and started voicing out their opinion. The fans commented,

Though some new-gen fans might be confused over how Bulma is the most important part of the show, they should start watching the original show and Dragon Ball Z to realize her true worth and how she has played a major role in making Dragon Ball the franchise it is today.

Dragon Ball DAIMA can be streamed on Crunchyroll.
