Celtic star Nicolas Kuhn opens up on Barcelona transfer ‘interest’

CELTIC’S man of the moment shot to national attention back home when he shot down RB Leipzig in the Champions League.

He’s Kris Boyd’s player of the season ALREADY.

And Nicholas Kuhn is picking up more and more attention as the season of his dreams kicks on.

But it’s nothing new for the German winger.

He’s had one of the biggest clubs in the WORLD knocking his door.

Brentford and Fulham were immediately linked with moves in the aftermath of his masterclass against the German side – the same team he LEFT as a youngster.

And some big financial figures were floated as he was eyed as a replacement for Bryan Mbuemo or Reiss Nelson with a £30m price-tag.

Kuhn’s rapid rise may also have made headlines in Germany – and added him to shortlists in England‘s top flight – but there was another team where he had already headlined their transfer wishlist.

Twice.

European giants no less.

A global brand.

He’d have still been strutting his stuff on Europe‘s top stage – but maybe not linked with the Bees.

Instead there’s another team beginning with B – and BARCELONA‘S loss has certainly been Celtic‘s gain this term.

The Catalan giants have TWICE been tempted to test Kuhn’s transfer resolve – but he opted to stay in Germany with RB Leipzig, and then moved to Ajax in Amsterdam, rather than Barcelona on the Med.

He revealed: “Yes, that’s true. Even before I moved to RB Leipzig’s boarding school at the age of 14, there was contact between Barca and my agent.

“And even before my time at Ajax Amsterdam (in January 2018), they wanted to sign me. But I saw a better chance of making the breakthrough at Ajax.”

He didn’t manage it and from Ajax he went to Bayern Munich.

Kuhn only really made the first team step with Rapid Vienna two years ago.

But after acclimatising to the Scottish game, Kuhn has revelled this season and scored 10 goals and laid on 11 more in 17 action packed games.

He’s even been ranked one of the quickest players in the entire competition as Celtic put themselves in a great position to qualify for the next stage be it play-offs or pushing into the top eight for a quarter-final berth.

Next on his agenda though isn’t a big-money move – though that might still come if he maintains his current form.

Instead he wants a spot in the German national team with a World Cup just over 18 months away.

Speaking to SportsBild and quoted by fussballtransfers.com he went on: “I know that I have the quality for the national team and I make no secret of the fact that I dream of the 2026 World Cup in the USA.

“”Every boy who plays football dreams of playing for the national team at some point, I’ve often said that the DFB team is a huge goal of mine.

“I want to show on this stage that I can keep up. And one day I want to prove that to the DFB as well.”
