Labour slammed for taking 3 YEARS to review social care – as top expert accuses MPs of being cowards on ‘urgent’ issue

A THREE year probe into reforming Britain’s broken social care system is “inappropriately” long, Sir Keir Starmer was warned today.

Top economist Sir Andrew Dilnot blasted the PM for launching another lengthy probe into the long-term funding of support for the elderly.

Andrew Dilnot speaking.
Sir Andrew Dilnot today slammed Labour for taking three years to review reforms to social care

The architect of the abandoned “Dilnot reforms” slammed Labour for waiting until 2028, a year before the next general election, to be shown recommendations by the new Commission on Social Care, led by Baroness Louise Casey.

Mr Dilnot told the Commons Health and Social Care committee: “I’d certainly like to see the Commission report earlier and I’d very much hope that it will.

“I don’t get the impression that Louise Casey is somebody who likes to hang about.

“I can’t think of any reason why it should take three years, I simply can’t.

“The commission that I was part of took a year, a year from being commissioned to final reporting.”

Labour 'caving in to union pressure by scrapping Tory school reforms'

RAPE SCANDAL

Starmer will order Labour MPs to vote AGAINST new inquiry into grooming gangs

Sir Andrew said ideas for reform should come in the first half of this parliament and the PM should consider whacking up taxes again to pay for them.

The top economist blasted ministers from the current and former governments for having “not had courage to go forward and do something”.

Sir Andrew said that it is “bleedin’ obvious” that in an “affluent society” care should be properly funded – and the responsibility now lies with the PM to sort out the issue once and for all.

He added: “I think Sir Keir’s views will be absolutely critical in this and if the Prime Minister gets behind this then something, I think, will happen.

“So I am optimistic. I’m always vague about timescales but we will get this done and we must because how can we look ourselves in the mirror and not deal with this?”

Around 2.6 million people in England aged over 50 have been unable to access care, according to Age UK.

Millions of silver-haired Brits have been left struggling to go to the toilet, eat and have a shower.

Meanwhile, the cost of care has soared for local authorities, who say they do not have the resources to meet surging demand.

Town halls are also struggling to recruit staff, with a 9.9 per cent vacancy rate reported in 2022/23.

Sir Andrew led a review into the future of funding social care and published his proposals in 2011.

But despite his reforms being accepted and praised by previous governments, they have never been enacted.

At the October Budget last year Rachel Reeves faced enormous backlash for scrapping plans by former Tory leader Boris Johnson to place an £86,000 cap on the amount anyone in England would need to spend on their personal care over their lifetime.

The cap would be paid for by a hike in national insurance, a decision that was later reversed by ex-PM Rishi Sunak.

The Chancellor insisted the proposals were not “deliverable” – but Sir Andrew slammed the move as a “tragedy”.

Rescue crews discovered a body buried in the snow of the Italian alps, Italians authorities revealed on Thursday.

The heartbreaking discovery was made on Wednesday morning after a helicopter search was resumed.

The pair were last heard from on 1 January when their phones either died or lost signal after sending messages and photos home.

A desperate search for the friends, from London, was ignited after the pair did not get on their flight home on January 6.

The first two days of the frantic search were hampered by heavy snowfall, fog, and avalanche warnings.

This teams first worrying update, earlier on Wednesday, was their discovery of the men’s backpacks and equipment in a hut they were believed to have stayed in.

Rescue crews revealed they followed Aziz and Sam’s last phone recordings to track a body.

Their last known location was near a mountain hut called Casina Dosson, close to the town of Tione Di Trento, near Riva Del Garda, on Lake Garda.

In her viral video, TikTok user Mila Jaye (@vanilla_swirlxx) showed her followers how to make her go-to hair oil.

She revealed that she attributes 99% of her hair growth success to the solution.

To give her audience an idea of the oil’s effectiveness, she included a picture of her hair from one year ago.

While Mila’s hair was visibly thinner and reached just below her shoulder in the throwback picture, it is now thicker, almost reaching her waist.

To measure out and store your DIY oil, she recommended investing in a bottle with measurements on the side and an applicator top.

For her first ingredient, the TikToker added one ounce of castor oil to the bottle.

She followed this up with an equal measurement of rosemary oil, which she described as “amazing for hair growth.”

Next, she poured in one ounce of coconut oil, which she pre-melted for convenience.

She revealed that her latest addition to the recipe has been pumpkin seed oil, which she recently learned is “really good for hair growth.”

After adding an ounce of this, she also measured out one ounce of jojoba oil.

Once all the ingredients were in the bottle, she shook the mixture before applying it to her scalp.

“There you have it, the best hair growth oil literally ever, you’ll have the longest, strongest, healthiest hair,” she said.

Mila revealed that her recipe has gone viral online after she showed off her results.

TikTok users shared their thoughts on the transformation in the comments section.

“CONSIDER ME INFLUENCED,” wrote one impressed viewer.

Hair re-growth FAQs

Anabel Kingsley, Consultant Trichologist and Brand President at Philip Kingsley spoke exclusively to Fabulous.

How long does it take for hair to grow back?

Hair grows, on average, half an inch a month. You cannot speed this up.

Do rosemary oil and scalp massages work?

Oils do not promote hair growth. In terms of rosemary oil, the current trend stems from one small study carried out on 50 men in 2015. No women were involved, and the study compared the effects of 2 per cent minoxidil to Rosemary oil. 2 per cent minoxidil doesn’t do much for
male pattern hair loss anyway, so the results were not very impressive.  Oils do serve a purpose in conditioning hair treatments though. They help add shine and smooth the hair cuticle to lock-in moisture and improve combability.  Scalp massages alone won’t cure hair loss, but it can help relax you, aid in lymphatic drainage, exfoliate and help topicals penetrate.

Are there any products or foods/vitamins you recommend someone using or eating to help with hair regrowth?

To support healthy hair regrowth, if you are experiencing hair thinning we’d recommend our Density Preserving Scalp Drops clinically proven to help slow hair loss with continued daily use within three months.

Telogen effluvium (hair shedding) due to nutritional deficiencies can often be simply treated with changes to your diet, and nutritional supplements such as our specially formulated Density Healthy Hair Complex and Density Amino Acid Booster.

Iron and Ferritin (stored iron) in red meat, dried apricots and dark, leafy greens. Vitamin B12 in animal products and fortified plant-based foods. Protein from oily fish, lean meat, cottage cheese, tofu, nuts, chickpeas, and beans.

However, there may be an underlying cause for their hair loss and rather than this being masked by using an off-the-shelf product, they should be encouraged to seek the advice of a specialist such as a Trichologist.

“Girl, you could just do a hair brand with this hair oil,” said another follower.

“Damn, your hair looks amazing,” commented a third person.

“I love pumpkin seed oil. It’s amazing. It grew my hair out by a few inches just using that oil,” wrote another TikTok user.

“Yes, castor oil and rosemary oil are key to hair growth,” said one viewer.

“Influenced! I’ve been wanting to do this. But first want to chop to right above my shoulders and get a fresh start,” commented another follower.
