CHANNEL 4 viewers have made desperate pleas for one of its comedy series to be recommissioned.
Matt Berry’s Victorian era comedycrime series Year of the Rabbit was a hit with a huge blow after its second series commission was pulled by Channel 4 in a shock U turn.
Year of the Rabbit starred comedian Matt Berry, and will now not return for a second series[/caption]
The Bodyguard actress Keeley Hawes also featured in an episode of the crime comedy series[/caption]
The show stars Berry as a detective in Victorian London, who fights crime alongside his hapless partner, played by Freddie Fox, and the country’s first female police officer, performed by Susan Wokoma.
Recommissioned by Channel 4 in February last year, it was written by Berry and Emmy-winners Andy Riley and Kevin Cecil.
The broadcaster was funding series two alongside Objective Media Group(OMG) and AMC-owned U.S. cable networkIFC.
However OMG is now left looking for another partner to try and make the second series of the show happen.
OMG chief executive Layla Smithtold Deadline: “Year Of The Rabbit is a victim of the devastating effects of Covid.
“IFC are very committed to the show, but we will need to find another partner — and we’re working on that.”
Viewers have been left devastated, as one wrote on Reddit: “Matt Berry is in imperious form and supported by a supremely talented cast. It’s a shame it only got one season.”
Another shared: “Loved the show. One of the funniest i have seen. Anyone spot the Taika Waititi cameo?
“Genuinely laughed at some of the quips Matt Berry came out with.”
“Loved it. Way better than it needed to be – the plotting and period texture actually added to the comedy instead of detracting from it. Genuinely sad it only got 1 series,” said a third.
Another posted: “Agreed. One season wasn’t enough. I will watch anything with Matt Berry. Luckily he’s had no shortage of work since this so it’s not all bad.”
A Channel 4 spokeswoman said: “We’re hugely proud of this hilarious and fearless comedy series, but as result of the impact of Covid on our schedules we have made the difficult decision not to enter into a second series with a heavy heart.”
Year Of The Rabbit isn’t the first programme Channel 4 has pulled back from, but is now the second OMG show Channel 4 has withdrawn from.
Channel 4 also tapped out of the second season of Canadian comedian Mae Martin’s Feel Good, leaving Netflix to produce it alone.
Whilst a second series of Year of the Rabbit isn’t happening, Berry is said to be working on a new series of his BAFTA-winning comedy Toast Of London.
Arthur Mathews, who co-writes the series with Berry, has previously suggested that the fourth season could see viewers follow eccentric actor Toast as he works in the U.S.
Smith added: “The best thing I can imagine is Toast in his black suit, completely unchanged, in the midst of America.”

Fans have begged Channel 4 to reconsider and bring it back[/caption]

GAMSTOP, the UK’s national self-exclusion scheme for online gambling, has reported record registration numbers to kick off the new year.
The service experienced its highest daily sign-up figures since launching in 2018, with 415 registrations on 1 January, 413 on 2 January, and 396 on 6 January.
GAMSTOP has reported record registration numbers[/caption]
These numbers mark the three busiest days for GAMSTOP since May 2023, underscoring its critical role in helping vulnerable consumers take control of their gambling habits.
In response to user feedback, GAMSTOP has introduced a new ‘5 years with auto-renewal’ exclusion option.
This feature is designed for those seeking long-term protection from gambling websites and apps.
The new option builds on concerns identified in an independent review by Ipsos, which revealed that many users are anxious about the end of their exclusion period and would prefer more permanent solutions.
Under the current system, exclusions remain in effect for up to seven years after the initial term unless a consumer actively requests their removal.
The new 5-year auto-renewal option ensures that exclusions are automatically extended for another five years at the end of each term unless the user opts out.
For added support, GAMSTOP will send email reminders every 15 months to consumers with 5-year exclusions (with or without auto-renewal), helping them stay informed about upcoming expiry or renewal dates.
Since its inception, more than 500,000 individuals have used GAMSTOP’s services.
The new option now joins existing exclusion periods of six months, one year, and five years. Consumers with an active five-year exclusion can upgrade to include auto-renewal via their account settings.
Gamstop Group CEO, Fiona Palmer said: “We have come a very long way since our launch in April 2018, but our journey doesn’t stop there.
“Our goal is to provide consumers with tools and options that empower them to take control of their gambling activity. As such, we’re consistently listening to feedback and evaluating the effectiveness of our service.
“Consumers wanted longer exclusion periods and we listened. The introduction of the 5-year auto-renewal exclusion is an important step in ensuring consumers peace of mind when using our service and helping vulnerable consumers take a sustained break from their gambling.”

Establishes time and monetary limits before playing
Only gambles with money they can afford to lose
Never chase their losses
Doesn’t gamble if they’re upset, angry, or depressed

HEARTBROKEN Married At First Sight star Nathan has revealed the truth behind his split with Lacey.
Fans were left shocked when the strongest couple on the latest series of MAFS revealed they had broken up.
MAFS couple Lacey and Nathan shocked fans when they split[/caption]
Lacey and Nathan made it the final vows and left the show as a proper couple[/caption]
The pair appeared loved-up on the show, but were quick to break-up[/caption]
Throughout their time on season 9, Lacey, 27, and Nathan, 24, delighted E4 fans with their blossoming romance, which even saw the pair declare “I Love You” to each other.
However, not long after the series ended, The Sun exclusively revealed that the couple had secretly split shortly after filming wrapped.
Our source said at the time: “Nathan and Lacey really tried to make their relationship work in the real world but it just fizzled after a while.
“The final vows were filmed in February and they were still going strong in April when the reunion was shot, but since then they have called in quits.
“They were both sad it didn’t work out, but sadly it wasn’t meant to be.
“It’s also a big blow for fans who were really invested in their relationship.
“They were widely viewed as the strongest couple of the series so the news that they are no longer an item is such a shame.”
In an exclusive interview, she said: “It does make me question if the whole thing was fake on his part.
“I was just like, ‘why do you care about how you’re looking?’ I feel like he just lacked passion for me and passion for our relationship.
“Throughout the experiment, thinking back, he would always say, ‘oh, I want to be the nice guy. I just want to be the nice guy’.
“But I didn’t realise that until after the experiment. And then I started thinking about our relationship more.
“He just cared about his image and how he looked and how he would come across rather than what’s right.
However, now Nathan has broken his silence on the break-up and revealed that he is in fact the one who has been left “brokenhearted”.
Lacy said she feared that Nathan ‘faked’ their romance[/caption]
Speaking exclusively to The Sun at a showbiz event last night, he said: “Things weren’t the same off the show, it was very different.
“I’d always have to go there, she wouldn’t come to see me – those kind of arguments. I’m not too sure, things were quite different after the show.
I’m scared to date again, I want to but my heart’s still broken.
Nathan
“When you’re together, you’re 100 per cent in the same place.
“But after the experiment there was a big distance there.”
Asked who’s idea it was to break-up, Nathan said: “She decided, she said let’s just be friends.”
Nathan has revealed he is ‘heartbroken’ following the split[/caption]
Lacey also spoke to The Sun about their break-up[/caption]
Speaking about how he was feeling post break-up, Nathan said: “I’m scared to date again, I want to but my hearts still broken.
“I definitely do want to date again but there’s no one yet.”
Lacey also spoke to The Sun last night and she told us: “I left him [Nathan] in 2024, to me this is a new slate. I am single.
“He’s not worth it. I’m just doing my thing, I believe in the universe, if I’m meant to meet someone then I will.
“I like meeting people organically – I’m a bit old school. I don’t like dating apps.”
Mafs couples that have stood the test of time
Loved-up Tayah Victoria and Adam Aveling of series six fame had the first Mafs baby.
The pair couldn’t keep their hands off each other on the programme and quickly found their feet in the outside world, moving into Adam’s Doncaster home.
Just 18 months after meeting, the couple welcomed their daughter Beau.
Season five couple Michelle Walder and Owen Jenkins also managed to make their marriage work away from the cameras and had their first child in December.
Teacher Michelle, 29, has no regrets about taking part in the experiment. She told us: “I just feel very lucky and thankful that it has worked out – and excited for everything to come.”
Michelle and Owen were both sick of dating apps when they applied in 2019.
Owen recalled: “I had been out for some drinks with a friend after work.
“While he was out for a cigarette I was scrolling on Instagram waiting for him to come back in.
“The MAFS advert was the last thing I saw, and I joked, ‘Wouldn’t it be funny if I signed up?’
“A few beers later when I was back at home I sent in the application, and the rest is history.”
Another couple to make Mafs UK history is Zoe Clifton and Jenna Robinson.
Despite a slight rocky start, where they clashed over Jenna’s vegan lifestyle, the show’s first same sex pairing are still going strong.
They even have a successful podcast together called Life With a Pod.
Jenna shed light on being involved in the show earlier this year when she told us: “We’re not legally married, and I never felt like we were. I definitely feel the process makes you take the relationship a lot more seriously and having the help of the experts… if you can survive that process it sets a firm foundation for a long-lasting relationship.”
