With an imminent suspension coming Robin Propper’s way, the Gers had to turn to Leon King against Hibs – while Clinton Nsiala has yet to feature despite joining from AC Milan in the summer.
A number of names have been mooted as new recruits – including Man Utd veteran Jonny Evans and former Gers star Niko Katic.
But neither of these tally with the Gers’ direction of travel in recent years, where Nils Koppen has been tasked with unearthing new talent from emerging or untapped markets.
That’s the route they have gone down successfully with Hamza Igamane, a player still plying his trade in Morocco until this summer who could now generate a fee in excess of £20m.
And they’ll hope that King, still playing away in Jamaica, with Cavalier FC could come into the same category.

With 22 caps for the international team, he won the Jamaican league with Cavalier.
He’s already had one stint in European football, spending a season on-loan at IBV in Iceland before returning to sunnier climes.
But he could be a cost effective way to plug the gap in the short term, and win his way to a longer term deal.
The likes of Kemar Roofe and Marcus Gayle are other Jamaicans who have previously turned out for Rangers.
King has the likes of Aston Villa star Leon Bailey and former Everton and Leicester star Demari Gray for company at international level.
