2 weeks agoNews PlusComments Off on Michelle Mone spotted keeping low profile in Glasgow amid £122m Covid contracts scandal
MICHELLE Mone has been spotted keeping a low profile in Glasgow amid an investigation into a company over a £203million deal of PPE contracts during the Covid pandemic.
The bra tycoon and Tory peer is facing a long-running National Crime Agency (NCA) probe alongside her husband, Isle of Man-based businessman Doug Barrowman.
Michelle Mone was spotted at a townhouse in Glasgow[/caption]
The investigation involves allegations over how contracts were secured for PPE Medpro.
The lingerie entrepreneur is alleged to have used her membership in the House of Lords to use a “VIP fast lane” to recommend PPE Medpro to supply protective equipment to the Government.
The firm was subsequently accused by the Government of supplying faulty PPE and for three years Mone and Barrowman publicly denied any involvement with the company.
But later in a high-profile BBC interview, Baroness Mone later conceded she had lied to the press about their involvement in PPE Medpro – and that the couple stood to benefit from a£60million profit madeon the deal.
The NCA, considered to Britain‘s FBI, are looking into payments made to the firm which is now being sued by the government for £122 million.
The suit is over ‘breach of contract and unjust enrichment’ amid claims that the surgical gowns issued at the time were unfit for use.
However, Barrowman has previously said that he is confident he will win the case while PPE Medpro denies all the allegations.
But the couple seem to have put their troubles to one side as they returned to Mone’s hometown of Glasgow for the New Year.
According to The Mail Online, the pair enjoyed traditional Scottish Hogmanay celebrations after making a rare visit to the city.
And Mone appeared to be quietly getting on with daily household tasks after being spotted taking out the bins at a £1.4million townhouse on Friday, January 3.
They are believed to have been staying in the massive home on one of Glasgow’s poshest streets for the bells.
She was seen wearing a long black puffer-style jacket with blue jeans and a dark baseball cap as she carried out a full black bin bag in one hand and some papers and a coffee cup in the other.
Making multiple trips outside, Mone was also seen carrying a large bag from Smyths Toys, boxes of Majestic wine and a Le Creuset pot.
All of the items were loaded into a silver Boxer Mercedes van which was parked outside.
Both Mone and Barrowman and then hopped into the van and it is believed to have made its way to Glasgow Airport.
The show will tell how the former model from the East End of Glasgow became a multi-millionaire in the predominantly male world of business.
It is also set to cover how she became mired in the PPE scandal following the Covid crisis.
The Rise And Fall Of Michelle Mone, which is expected to air early this year, will look at how, throughout the Nineties, she grew her underwear empire and came to embody the entrepreneurial spirit of the day.
Mone, who founded the Ultimo push-up bra in 1999, became such a high-profile figure in the industry that she was made a baroness in 2015.
But her reputation was severely dented five years later with the PPE scandal.
The series will hear from many of those who witnessed her rise and fall, including friends, former colleagues and advisors, journalists and lawyers involved in her story.
Simon Young, Head of Commissioning, History, at the BBC said: “It’s still unclear where this story will end, but there’s no better time to go back to understand where it all began.
“It will reveal the foundations of one of the most astonishing stories in the recent history of British business.”

2 weeks agoNews PlusComments Off on Celtic hero at centre of major injury riddle as he’s dramatically removed from line-up minutes before Dundee Utd clash
HE’S been Celtic’s best player this season by a distance – and perhaps an early favourite for the player of the year awards.
But Nicolas Kuhn is at the centre of an injury riddle tonight after he was dramatically PULLED from Brendan Rodgers‘ starting line-up for the clash with Dundee Utd just minutes before kick off.
Nicolas Kühn of Celtic[/caption]
He’s been so important this season[/caption]
The Northern Irishman named an unchanged line-up from the 3-0 win over St Mirren.
But there was a shock on the way for Hoops fans when they saw that Korean winger Yang was in the starting line-up, and NOT the German.
While it appeared that Kuhn was on the bench, that could merely have been an administrative matter.
In any case, any injury to the winger would be bad news for Rodgers, considering how reliant the Hoops have appeared on the star.
Rodgers had previously indicated he was keen to strengthen in the wide areas
The development occurred on the same day we told you how the Hoops are set to make an offer for 18-year old Hammarby starlet Bazoumana Toure, according to reports in Sweden.
It’s thought the Parkhead side have sent scout Jay Lefevre to Sweden to watch the Ivory Coast Under 20s star and he was impressed with his performances.
Hammarby’s sports manager Mikael Hjelmberg has confirmed that he expects Toure to become the club and country’s recordtransfer sale.
He said: “Of course, that’s definitely the ambition.
There are many clubs who ask about him and there are many clubs who are curious about what it would cost to buy him.
“But we have been quite clear about what we think – and that may also be why nothing concrete has come yet.
“I’ve told Bazou and his representatives that if we’re going to sell this winter, it should be for a Swedish record.”
Toure – who is under a long-term contract for another three years – made 23 starts for Hammarby in the Swedish top flight and chipped in with eight goals.

2 weeks agoNews PlusComments Off on Ipswich locked in three-way battle with Premier League rivals for £21 million-rated Brazilian striker Igor Jesus
IPSWICH have joined the growing race for Botafogo striker Igor Jesus.
Town have picked up form lately and fresh blood in the forward line could prove a huge boost to their Premier League survival chances.
Fulham and Brentford have also been linked with January moves for the £21 million-rated forward.
Jesus, 23, has scored 56 goals in 168 appearances in his short career, including eight goals this season, as Botafogo were crowned Champions of Brazil for the first time.
Ipswich remain in the bottom three but two wins and a draw in their last five games has given them hope of survival this season.
Current striker Liam Delap has scored only eight goals all season but is still leading the charge to stay up and has caught the eye of bigger clubs.
It is unlikely Delap will move on this month though and Jesus, 23, would be seen as a support player for their lead man up front rather than a replacement.
Chelsea have been linked with a move for Delap and are considering their striker options.
But boss Enzo Maresca is set to wait until summer to make a serious play for a new centre forward with Brighton’s Evan Ferguson also on their radar.
It’s thought the Jesus striker is keen to make a move to the Prem.
