Fresh twist to Rachel Reeves’ CV row after claim made in legal filing emerges
A FRESH twist to Rachel Reeves’ CV row emerged last night, over a claim made in a legal filing.
When Ms Reeves became a director of Leeds-based charity Barca in May 2008, she claimed to be an “economist” on a document sent to government agency Companies House.
But last week the Chancellor clarified she was in fact working at the time in “retail banking” for Halifax.
A source close to Ms Reeves insisted she is an “economist by trade”.
It came as No10 yesterday refused to say Rachel Reeves has followed ministerial integrity rules after the Chancellor was accused of lying on her CV.
Tory shadow ministers demanded Ms Reeves come clean after her LinkedIn page was quietly edited last week.
The Chancellor’s claim that she worked as an economist at the Bank of Scotland between 2006 and 2009 was changed to state that she held a role in “retail banking” for Halifax.
No10 yesterday dodged questions over whether Ms Reeves has been “straight with the public” about her past employment.
The PM’s spokesperson said: “He is very clear that this is a Chancellor that has been straight with the public about the state of the public finances and what is necessary to restore financial stability – that is most important.”
