ITV confirms return of The 1% Club after six months off air – but there’s a twist
LEE Mack will return to ITV with The 1% Club with a new series of the popular quiz show.
ITV viewers will get their quiz fix via The 1% Club as the fifth series airs on screen, but there’s a twist to its usual programming.
Lee Mack will return to The 1% Club on ITV in December[/caption] The 1% Club will return to ITv screens next month but there’s a twist in store for viewers[/caption]New episodes left over from the third series will air next month, with four episodes stripped from 9th to the 12th December.
Whilst viewers wait for the next episodes to air, they can also look forward to an extra dose of Lee Mack in December as he heads up two Christmas specials of the quiz show and will also front a charity one for Soccer Aid.
The Saturday night quiz series has also been a hit at the recent NTA Awards, where it won Best Quiz Game Show for the third year in a row.
This year it faced stiff competition but still beat The Wheel, Beat The Chasers, Richard Osman’s House of Games, and Ant and Dec’s Limitless Win.
The show sees contestants faced with questions designed to test how their brain works, rather than their intelligence level.
They have to use their logic, reasoning and common sense as they are whittled down to one final question that only 1% of the country can answer correctly.
This is all in an effort to try and take home the jackpot prize of up to £100,000.
Earlier this year the show caused controversy when fans were left disappointed about how the show treated one contestant.
Big Brother star Yinrun Huang appeared on the show, with the ITV recording taking place before she would appear in the Big Brother house.
Yet Tv viewers were left furious as they noted host Lee Mack, 58, referred to Yinrun as ‘Runrun’ multiple times throughout the programme.
Following Yinrun’s elimination, Lee said: “I’m so sorry to say that we’ve lost Runrun. Runrun, I’m so sorry. You need to change your name to Staystay.”
The 26-year-old, who is originally from Shanghai, took to Instagram to address the pronunciation error.
Yinrun shared: “Just in case anyone is confused, I was given the name ‘Runrun’ on the show, but it’s still me, I don’t have a twin.”
Her fans flocked to the comment section to express their disapproval of Yinrun being referred to by a mispronounced name.
However, Yinrun has insisted she enjoyed participating in one of her favourite shows.
She shared: “This was filmed at the start of 2023 so I’ve had to keep my participation a secret for so long! But it’s finally here and I can’t wait to watch it back! (This is one of my favourite series).
“Thanks to the show for having me as a player, I had the best time and lots of laughs, plus Lee Mack is so charming.”
Hardest Quiz Show Questions
Would you know the answers to some of quizzing TV's hardest questions
- Who Wants To Be A Millionaire – Earlier this year, fans were left outraged after what they described as the “worst” question in the show’s history. Host Jeremy Clarkson asked: “From the 2000 awards ceremony onwards, the Best Actress Oscar has never been won by a woman whose surname begins with which one of these letters?” The multiple choice answers were between G, K, M and W. In the end, and with the £32,000 safe, player Glen had to make a guess and went for G. It turned out to be correct as Nicole Kidman, Frances McDormand and Kate Winslet are among the stars who have won the Best Actress gong since 2000.
- The 1% Club – Viewers of Lee Mack’s popular ITV show were left dumbfounded by a question that also left the players perplexed. The query went as follows: “Edna’s birthday is on the 6th of April and Jen’s birthday falls on the 15th of October, therefore Amir’s birthday must be the ‘X’ of January.” It turns out the conundrum links the numbers with its position in the sentence, so 6th is the sixth word and 15th is the fifteenth word. Therefore, Amir’s birthday is January 24th, corresponding to the 24th word in the sentence.
- The Chase – The ITV daytime favourite left fans scratching their heads when it threw up one of the most bizarre questions to ever grace the programme. One of the questions asked the player: “Someone with a nightshade intolerance should avoid eating what?” The options were – sweetcorn, potatoes, carrots – with Steve selecting sweetcorn but the correct answer was potatoes.
Asda has the perfect cosy buy that will keep you warm in the cold – it’s £14 and looks super stylish with every outfit
THE recent chill in the UK has left us all wrapped up in as many layers as we can put on our bodies – but that doesn’t mean we don’t want to look stylish.
Thankfully, a fashion fan has found the perfect buy in Asda to keep you warm and make any outfit look good.
Cait has fashion fans racing to Asda[/caption] She found the perfect cosy scarf to keep you warm and look stylish this winter[/caption]Cait took to social media to show off the latest winter essential and it was so nice she was left with just one issue – which colour to buy.
In the video, the fashion fan headed to her local Asda where she spotted the £14 scarf.
It currently comes in four colours – olive green, grey, cream, and black.
The scarf is oversized to keep your neck toasty and has fringe edging for some extra detail.
To finish, it also has a pocket on one end of the scarf making it look much more expensive than its £14 price tag.
Cait wrote: “Asda George, new in scarfs are so comfy and soft.”
It comes just in time as the weather in the UK has taken a drastic dip this week.
While the scarf is practical and keeps you warm – it also looks super stylish with any outfit.
Many people were in love with the design and it seemed the olive green scarf was a particular hit with Cait’s followers.
Currently, the scarf isn’t available to buy online so you’ll have to head to stores to grab one.
The clip posted to her TikTok account @caittalks has since gone viral with over 439k views and 39k likes.
Fashion fans were quick to take to the comments claiming they needed to grab the scarf for themselves.
One person wrote: “I’m off to Asda now!”
Another commented: “The green one looks so good though.”
Is supermarket fashion the new high street?
DEPUTY Fashion Editor Abby McHale weighs in:
The supermarkets have really upped their game when it comes to their fashion lines. These days, as you head in to do your weekly food shop you can also pick up a selection of purse-friendly, stylish pieces for all the family.
Tesco has just announced a 0.7 per cent increase in the quarter thanks to a ‘strong growth in clothing’ and M&S has earnt the title of the number one destination for womenswear on the high street.
Asda’s clothing line George has made £1.5 million for the supermarket in 2023, 80 per cent of Sainsbury’s clothes sold at full price rather than discounted and Nutmeg at Morrisons sales are also up 2 per cent in the past year.
So what is it about supermarket fashion that is becoming so successful?
Apart from the clothing actually being affordable, it’s good quality too – with many being part of schemes such as the Better Cotton Initiative.
A lot of the time they keep to classic pieces that they know will last the customer year after year.
Plus because they buy so much stock they can turn around pieces quickly and buy for cheaper because of the volumes.
“Love this!! I’m off to Asda now,” penned a third.
Meanwhile a fourth said: “These look so cosy.”
“Omg I truly need,” claimed a fifth.
Someone else added: “Do I need to dash to Asda now.”
