Inside UK’s ‘poshest train’ as it gets set to arrive in Glasgow for Christmas
ONE of the world’s most luxurious trains is set to to return to Scotland for a festive adventure.
The Northern Belle is to embark on a Christmas tour across the UK.
The train will pass through Scotland – and depart from Glasgow this festive season[/caption] Passengers will be entertained by the on-board musicians[/caption] UK’s ‘poshest train’ coming to Glasgow offering luxury trip for Christmas fans[/caption]Once part of the famous Orient Express group, the luxury carriages once featured on Channel 5‘s ‘World’s Most Scenic Railway Journeys’.
The 1930s Pullman-style train was named the “Grand Dame of luxury travel” by Hollywood actor Bill Nighy.
And now Scots champagne lovers will be able to wine and dine onboard at 70mph as the on-board team serve a seven-course festive feast.
The railway experience harks back to a bygone era of travel, with even a red carpet being laid out for passengers while the board their carriage.
The iconic train will set off from Glasgow Central on Sunday December 1.
It will pick up more passengers at Edinburgh Waverley before taking punters on a – still undisclosed – journey through the wintry Scottish countryside.
There is plenty of entertainment on board with the train’s resident musicians playing tunes for passengers.
A conjurer will also bring an extra touch of magic as he performs tricks as he strolls through the aisles.
The comfortable train is traditionally decorated with tapestries, mosaics, and decorative furniture restored from the period.
Pristine white linen and sparkling glassware adorn the table as stewards carefully pour a glass of Laurent-Perrier La Cuvée Brut NV Champagne.
And Head Chef Matthew Green’s sumptuous menu will be accompanied with thei Sommelier’s choice of wine.
Lucky passengers will indulge in freshly prepared canapes to prepare them for seasonal and festive courses showcasing the best of British produce.
The journey will be rounded off with an award-winning cheese, port and petits fours.
Prices start from £395 per passenger with the opportunity to upgrade the ticket to include more benefits.
Speaking ahead of the Scottish experience, a spokesperson for the Northern Belle said: “You’d be Christmas crackers to miss it, so it may still be worth checking for late cancellations.
“We like to think the Northern Belle harks back to the golden days of rail travel – an era when nothing was too good for the pampered passengers.
The meal will conclude with a luxury cheese board[/caption] The Northern Belle even comes with it’s own cocktail bar[/caption] Punters will be served a delicious lunch on board[/caption]“We even lay a red carpet across the station platform before they board and are handed their first glass of champagne.”
The Northern Belle is frequently voted one of the world’s Top Ten trains.
One of the individually hand-decorated carriages used to form part of the Royal Train and is rumoured to contain the late Queen Elizabeth’s mother’s favourite seat.
Next summer the train will return to Scotland for lunch and afternoon tea journeys departing from Glasgow and Edinburgh in July.
It will also journey from Loch Lomond to Oban on the West Highland Line in August 2025.
The Northern Belle’s Christmas Special trips are available here.
Festive fans can bang their seat on board[/caption]Get free house AND £70k salary to live on picturesque ‘Whisky Island’ off UK coast … but you can’t do it alone
A CHANCE to bag a free house and £70,000 salary on a secluded island could be yours – but you’ll have to find someone willing to come with you.
The dream opportunity has opened up on Scotland’s breath-taking Isle of Islay, better known as ‘Whisky Island’.
The island is famous for its world-class distilleries, rugged beaches, and jaw-dropping scenery.
But this isn’t just a getaway – a private estate is on the hunt for a couple to live and work on its sprawling grounds.
The catch being that you’ll need to bring someone with you,
One of you will handle housekeeping duties, while the other takes on the role of a gardener and driver.
The housekeeping gig comes with responsibilities like keeping the property spotless, managing staff, running errands, and even cooking now and then.
The gardening role includes tending the grounds, trimming hedges, and ferrying guests around the island.
Applicants need a driving licence, must be happy to work flexibly during busy times, and should be comfortable with dogs — your furry friends can even tag along if you move in.
The perks include a rent-free, three-bedroom home on the estate, complete with a lounge, kitchen, and family bathroom.
Council tax is covered, though you’ll have to sort your own utility bills.
The job also includes an impressive £70,000 annual salary to be split between the couple.
When you’re not working, you can enjoy everything Islay has to offer, from iconic whisky distilleries like Lagavulin to picturesque villages such as Bowmore and Port Ellen.
The estate will host private retreats, weddings, and exclusive events, offering the chance to rub shoulders with high-profile guests.
Nestled in the Inner Hebrides, Islay is a slice of heaven for anyone who dreams of trading the rat race for rolling hills, sandy shores, and a tight-knit community.
You can apply for the job on Greycoat Lumleys website.
Meanwhile, It seems more and more Brits are swapping out the city bustle for a quiet island life.
One family has decided to settle down on a tiny island that you can only access twice a day.
Elsewhere, a woman has revealed how she managed to live on a “heavenly” island for free while only working 24 hours a week.
But not all UK islands are ‘heavenly’.
For those looking for a scare, the UK is home to some very spooky islands – and there is one you can only get to by hopping in a kayak.
Dean committed the ultimate sin and let the camp down – I can’t believe it: Rebekah Vardy’s I’m a Celeb diary
Where do I start? Dean, you really let the camp down last night.
There’s nothing worse than failing a trial, but to say I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! It’s just, no.
Rebekah Vardy was shocked to hear Dean say ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here last night[/caption] Dean ended up in tears as his claustrophobia got the better of him[/caption]You literally just have to force yourself into these trials. Everyone’s starving, totally relying on you to succeed. I can’t believe you actually tapped out.
Trials force yourself out of your comfort zone and you have to switch the background noise off. Get in, get out and just get the job done because everyone’s relying on you. Everyone’s starving and everyone wants you to succeed. You’ve just got to get on with it.
The camp’s been really, really nice at the minute with failures, but I guarantee it really won’t last long.
Everyone’s going to become hangry and the weather, especially if it carries on being as wet and cold as it was last night. It’s really really going to start affecting everyone’s mood so we may start seeing a few narky people.
I love Grace. She’s so refreshingly honest, but no surprises who keeps asking those questions, is it?
Her being honest about her sexuality, not that it’s anyone’s business, will really, really help people struggling with things like that.
Please, Grace. Don’t ever go searching your name on the internet, especially on social media, because it’s just full of vicious trolls that have always got something negative to say about you. One minute they’ll love you, the next minute they’ll hate you. Just don’t go searching for it.
Jane really made me laugh last night talking about complaints procedures in the good old days and the trolls.
She has some really really good advice and she would definitely be one that I would turn to because she’s been there, she’s done it, she’s experienced the good and the bad.
I really, really loved her quote when she said ‘I could shrink myself to be digestible to you, but actually I’m just going to be myself and let you choke’.
A lot of people can take note from that because that’s what life is all about, just being yourself and two fingers up what everyone else thinks really.
Talking meal times in the zoo, you never really know when they are going to deliver your food parcel. It’s like a waiting game.
You know it’s getting towards dinner time, it’s getting dark, but you never really know. Then all of a sudden the parcel literally comes over your head from the crew and you never know when you open that parcel what you’re going to get.
It could be anything and it’s always always a surprise. The most random things you’ve probably ever seen and you just think ‘oh my God, what am I going to do with this?’
I remember we had crocodile feet once and I was like ‘oh my God, how do you even cook crocodile feet?’ It is quite an experience but I definitely think Tulisa for camp chef moving forward.
I loved the challenge with Danny and Alan. I think they’re brilliant. They’re really, really going to go a long way. They’re so funny. I don’t think they realise how funny they are. They looked absolutely gutted when they got a couple of the questions wrong but can’t win them all, lads.

Dennis Byron[/caption]We need to get a grip on small boats crossings – I have a plan to smash the vile people smuggling gangs behind them
When I took on the role as Border Security Commander, I was under no illusions about the challenges that lay ahead.
With small boats crossings to the UK ongoing, organised criminal networks exploiting vulnerable people, and the tragic loss of lives in the Channel, people rightly demand the Government gets a grip.
Martin Hewitt was appointed as Border Security Commander six weeks ago[/caption]My role was created to overhaul our response to the people smuggling crisis and I am determined that when it comes to our borders, we will turn the tide.
To do this effectively, and in a way that lasts, will take time. A robust plan is needed to protect our borders and save lives.
When we talk about “UK borders”, we have to understand this goes far beyond what is happening between the southeast of Kent and the Northern French coastline.
Of course, that deadly strip of water that has claimed more than 60 lives this year alone is my focus. Even one death in the English Channel at the hands of profiteering people smugglers is abhorrent.
But if we are to prevent people from getting into those packed, flimsy, completely unseaworthy vessels that are effectively death traps, and secure our border as the UK public expects, we have to work with other countries to ensure that prevention happens long before migrants and boats even reach French shores.
That is why our new Border Security Command must bring levels of international joint-working and cooperation. This is not just a UK problem. It is a global one.
The launch of this Command, for the first time, provides a clear and long-term vision for delivering a secure and effective border.
I am bringing together all parts of our border and immigration system to tackle this problem head on. That includes: Border Force, The National Crime Agency, Immigration Enforcement, Policing, and The Intelligence Agencies.
By focusing efforts both in the UK and internationally, we are putting our full weight behind dismantling the criminal gangs.
The Government is investing £150 million directly into new technology, capabilities and specialist law enforcement officers, both here and across Europe.
Organised criminal gangs are becoming more and more sophisticated, actively changing and adapting their tactics to evade detection. A new plan and action to destroy their criminal business model is therefore long overdue, and this is exactly what we are developing.
Closer working between all our domestic organisations and agencies is critical. By building a clear picture of what is happening and where, we are in a much better position to cut off these networks at source.
As I know from my policing days, organised criminals need to be ruthlessly targeted from all angles to undermine and ultimately dismantle their business. So, we will be working with the banking sector to disrupt their cashflow in every way we can, with social media companies to stop the advertising they put out to lure potential victims, and we will continually attack their equipment supply lines.
We have tried and tested tactics for taking down terrorist gangs. Just as we know how to prevent gangs moving guns and drugs across borders, we will disrupt and intercept those trying to smuggle people across our borders.
The recruitment of the first 100 additional specialist intelligence and investigation officers is well underway, and we are increasing our presence in Europol. We will deliver more arrests, prosecutions, convictions, and ultimately, break the business model of people smuggling gangs.
In all my conversations with partners so far, no one underestimates the challenge, and everyone has been optimistic about the advantages greater collaboration can bring. When we work together to frustrate and disrupt more organised criminal operations and drive down their profits, we’re deterring others, sending a clear message that they can’t get away with it.
Already, this work has seen the interception of small boats and engines from entering the criminal supply chain, preventing thousands of Channel crossings and denying criminals millions in profit. The arrest last week of a suspected key gang member by The National Crime Agency in conjunction with law enforcement colleagues from Belgium and The Netherlands is a good example of exactly the kind of work that we will see more of as we develop the role of the Border Security Command.
Soon, the Government will introduce the Border Security, Asylum and Immigration Bill to modernise the asylum and immigration system. The Bill will create new, stronger powers for law enforcement agencies to tackle, investigate and prosecute organised immigration criminals.
So, while work is underway and good progress has been made, I am under no illusion that this problem will be solved overnight. But I am confident that through strong leadership, effective partnerships and a clear, long-term vision, the new Border Security Command will deliver the lasting change that the British people want to see.
The MASSIVE £5 The Range buy that’ll make Xmas morning WAY more exciting and you could even ditch your stockings for it
BARGAIN-MAD Christmas fans are going totally wild over a must-have buy from The Range that will make the festive season more special – all for just £5.
With Christmas Day right around the corner, many parents are wondering how to make the holiday more memorable for their little ones.
Shoppers race to stores to get their hands on The Range’s new adorable sleigh[/caption] The festive bargain is currently on sale for under £5[/caption] According to the description online, the centrepiece is also easy to assemble[/caption]Luckily, the popular home goods store, The Range, has come to rescue once again – this time, with a MASSIVE sleigh that can hold dozens of gifts.
One thrifty woman, Lemmer Jayne, was left stunned when she stumbled across the huge Make Your Own Christmas Sleigh Hamper Assorted – which has now been slashed from £5.99 to just £4.79.
Sharing the must-have festive bargain on TikTok, the mum-of-three advised fellow shoppers to not sleep on the find.
”Don’t walk! RUN! £5.99 in The Range and they’re a beautiful addition to Xmas day,” the delighted parent wrote in the now-viral video.
According to the description online, the dimensions are 96cmx56cm and the sleigh is also easy to assemble with no faff.
What’s more, the fabulous find can not only hold several presents but it can also be then used to store all your Christmas decorations – year after year.
The perfect addition to any Christmas, this light piece is sure to add plenty of magic to your home, especially when placed in the living room next to the decked tree.
Lemmer also showed off fellow social media users how stunning the sleigh looked – and although it’s still a few weeks until Christmas, the bargain find was already packed to the brim with neatly wrapped pressies.
”People that can’t afford big presents can get the sleigh cheap and it’ll make it more magical if they want,” the mum wrote.
The video has clearly impressed many, as it’s already racked up a staggering 1.1million views and hundreds of comments.
One viewer said: ”They do these in b&M for £5 too.”
Another suggested a more purse-friendly alternative if you’re into DIY: ”make one your selfs out hard cardboard and just design it your self much cheaper go get flat boxes from supermarkets.”
Someone else chimed in: ”oh wow I’m getting 4 tomorrow if possible.”
Although many were complaining that their local store had the sleighs sold out, Lemmer claimed that ”The Range have already announced its restocking”.
”that is super cute so gonna get my little boy one for his first Christmas and what a great idea to put the presents in there I would of just had it as a decoration lol,” another mum couldn’t wait to get her hands on the adorable buy.
How to look after your real Christmas tree
HERE'S what you need to know if you're buying a real Christmas tree:
First thing’s first: buy a pot (if it doesn’t come in one already).
You’ll need to treat your tree just like a houseplant and give it water and attention.
Make sure the container has good drainage – and it’s a good idea to put something underneath to catch the excess water.
Check the soil everyday to make sure it’s not drying out.
If it feels dry, give it some water. If it still feels moist, leave it alone as too much water can also kill a tree.
Also check the LED bulbs on your tree lights aren’t too hot as they could burn it, and keep your tree away from radiators.
When Christmas is over, try planting it in the garden so you can dig it up and use it again next year.
It’s a good idea to take it out of its pot when you do re-plant it though, as large trees don’t survive well in pots as their roots need space to grow.
Festive fail
However, the home goods store was recently slammed over a Christmas tree that you can put up with ”no fuss” – as shoppers insisted it ”takes the magic away”.
The 6ft tree is pre-lit and will set you back £99.99 for the pleasure.
Although it’s called a pop-up tree, perhaps ‘drop down tree’ would be more appropriate, because the tree doesn’t really pop-up at all.
In a video shared to TikTok, The Range demonstrated how the easy it is to assemble the tree, and it really does only take seconds to do.
But the no fuss tree left some shoppers scratching their heads as they claimed it took all the magic and fun out of it.
“It’s more fun sorting the colours of the branches while your family puts them on the tree it’s like a whole production, I love it,” one person commented on the viral video.
“It takes all the magic away,” another said.
And someone else noted: “Since it’s half the effort it should be half the price.”
The tree only takes seconds to assemble as the workers showed in the viral video[/caption]
