THE world of children’s TV is full of bright colours, zany antics, and larger-than-life personalities that leave kids glued to their screens.
But what happens when the cameras stop rolling and the presenters swap puppets for paperwork or costumes for classrooms?
Melanie now works behind the bar at a Wetherspoons[/caption]
This week, The Sun revealed that Melanie Grant, 53, who shot to fame as a cheerleader on ITV’s Fun House, is now pulling pints at Wetherspoons.
From 1989 to 1999, she was joined by her twin sister Martina and featured in all eleven series of the show, which was hosted by Pat Sharp.
Speaking about life after the show, Melanie said: “Since Fun House came to an end, Martina and I haven’t been on TV regularly. We still get the odd showbiz jobs here and there but it’s not my full-time job anymore and I needed something to pay the bills.”
She added: “I’ve always been a real people person, and I love working with the public, so when the Wetherspoons job came up, I thought it sounded perfect.”
Astonishingly, she says some people still recognise her from her time on the show.
One now works as a teacher, helping shape young minds, while another has become a real-life guinea pig, testing medicines for science.
Here, we track down the stars of CBBC, CITV, and beyond to uncover their surprising second acts.
Zoe Salmon-Corrie
Zoe Salmon-Corrie, 44, was one of the most popular presenters on Blue Peter.
Before joining the show in 2004, she was also crowned Miss Northern Ireland in 1999.

Rodd Christensen
Rodd Christensen was one of the best-loved characters on Balamory[/caption]
After the show, he worked as a bus driver for Stagecoach and says he still gets recognised[/caption]
Balamory was one of the most exciting kids’ shows in the early 2000s.
One of the most beloved show regulars was Spencer the Painter, played by American actor Rodd Christensen.
When the Scottish live-action show wrapped in 2005, many of its stars shunned the limelight, including Rodd, who became a bus driver for Stagecoach.
He has even admitted that he often gets recognised by passengers while on duty.
Following an announcement that the show was set to return, Rodd said he would like to reprise his role. “If they ask me to go back, then I’ll absolutely be there with bells on, I’m sure,” he said.
Although he has stayed out of the public eye, he made headlines in 2017 when it was revealed that his daughter, Raylin Joy, was working as an X-rated film star.

After the show, Kim established her own production company, Scattered Productions and became a writer and producer.

Peter Duncan, 70, started on Blue Peter in 1980 and left after six years.

After his exit, he initially pursued a career in acting. He has also sporadically taken part in TV shows such as Tumble and Through the Keyhole.
From September 2004 to July 2009, he was appointed as the Scout Association’s Chief Scout.

STEPHEN BUNTING has revealed that he still plays in his local darts league.
The No8-ranked player in the world is getting ready for this weekend’s Players Championship Finals.
Stephen Bunting is a cult hero on the darts circuit[/caption]
But the down-to-earth star is keen to never forget his roots in the sport, and still loves to play locally with his mates.
Speaking to Ladbrokes ahead of the Players Championship Finals, Bunting opened up on how continuing to play with his pals helps him at the big events.
He said: “I’ve got sessions booked in with a friend and I had local darts on Tuesday night, so I have been able to get out… I will be ready for the Players Championship this weekend, for sure.
“The local darts is great – I’ll never forget my roots, and I’ve been playing for the last three years now, I think.
“I really enjoy it; it’s my only night out through the week so I love seeing my mates and having a good time with them.
“I play dominoes as well, but we lost last night, so I won’t talk about that too much!”
Despite his pro status Bunting does not go easy on his mates, boasting an imperious record at local level.
He added: “I don’t think I’ve lost a game in the local league in the last three years – I can’t think of one, anyway – so I’ve got quite a good record.

“I played really well last night, so that gives me good hopes going into this weekend. Even though it’s local league, you’re still picking up bits of confidence from how well you’re playing in it.
“Sometimes it’s actually harder to play local league because you’re expected to win – and you’ve got the added pressure of being in a team, so you don’t want to let your team-mates down.
“The pressure of that is immense, but I just like being out with my mates.”
Bunting, 39, has witnessed the incredible rise of darts this year first hand, and has no qualms about recognising Luke Littler‘s remarkable impact.
On the teenage wonderkid, Bunting said: “I get asked about Luke Littler so much – I’ve already been asked about him three times today and it’s only 10am!
“He’s a phenomenon, to be honest. People like him don’t come around every day. Even when you look at what he was doing on the youth circuit… people were building him up, but you never know what’s going to happen until he gets up on those stages.
‘LIKE A DUCK TO WATER’
“Me, personally, I thought he could have possibly struggled, just because of the difference in crowd sizes and the idea of playing in front of thousands of people, week-in, week-out. But he’s just been a revelation, to be honest. He’s taken to things like a duck to water.
“He’s such a nice lad, as well; people don’t see the player or the person that we get to see in the back room… he’s very unassuming, he’ll be sat there watching either Man United on his phone, or cartoons, or whatever it is he watches!
“He just seems to have his head screwed on and I wish him every success… unless he’s playing me.
“Luke’s brought so much attention to our game from a younger audience – I’ve even noticed it myself. I went to JD for a pair of trainers, not long back, and there must have been about 15 to 20 kids following me in for pictures and autographs!
“That’s never happened before… that’s the Luke Littler effect. It can only make our game bigger and better, and ultimately, prize money is only going to go up, the more interest there is.
“It’s an interesting times for darts – we’re all very lucky to be playing in the era of Luke.”

7 days agoLatest NewsComments Off on Gen Zs reveal their biggest work fears – from dread of not looking the part to having to present in front of others
JUGGLING work-life balance, presenting in front of people – and not drinking enough water are among the things giving Gen Z the most anxiety at work.
A poll of 2,000 adults found 26 per cent of under-24s worry about a lack of organisation – but this only affects 10 per cent of workers over 55.
A young woman staring at her screen at work[/caption]
And just five per cent of young workers said nothing gives them any workplace anxiety, compared to 40 per cent of people who have been working for decades.
Not being able to get tasks done on time, having to have difficult conversations with a manager and even simply looking the part also leave Gen Z employees filled with workplace worry.
It also emerged Sunday evenings are among the most common times to suffer the dread of what’s to come for 18 per cent of young workers, while 20 per cent said the same of Monday mornings.
A spokesperson for Google’s AI Assistant, Gemini Live, which commissioned the research, said: “Many of us experience ‘the fear’ before a big work week, with many finding organisation and planning as the source of their stress.
“AI assistants are perfectly poised to take on these problems and help quell the anxiety that comes with the modern 9-5.”
The study also found just 45 per cent of Gen Z workers feel they have a good work life balance, compared to 58 per cent of millennials and 61 per cent of those in their last decade of work.
But in a bid to ease the fear about the week ahead, 46 per cent of Gen Z try to make sure they plan their days, with 13 per cent turning to AI to help them manage tasks more effectively.
In comparison, just two per cent of over 55s rely on the modern technology to help their workflow.
A quarter of Gen Z workers also take regular breaks and 17 per cent will talk to friends and colleagues to share their worries.
When asked how an AI tool could help ease their work-related anxiety, workers under 25 favoured personalised relaxation plans featuring breathing exercises, meditation, and to-do lists to organise tasks ahead of time.
And 40 per cent would turn to the technology to help create meal plans or snack schedules.
Digital creator and entrepreneur, Caspar Lee, who has teamed up with Google’s Gemini Live, said: “Navigating the modern workplace can be challenging, especially at this time of year when burnout is at its peak.
“It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by deadlines, presentations, or even choosing the right outfit for an important meeting.”
TOP 10 THINGS THAT GIVE GEN Z THE FEAR ABOUT WORK:
1. Not getting tasks done on time or at all 2. Not being able to juggle work/life balance efficiently 3. Not having enough time to focus on the work that is most meaningful 4. Not being prepared or organised, or having to navigate a quick change of plan 5. Having to solve difficult problems for others 6. Not being healthy or drinking enough water 7. Not looking the part 8. A presentation in front of anyone 9. A big presentation in front of a room of senior people 10. Having to have a difficult conversation with my manager
CASPAR LEE’S TIPS TO BEAT THE ‘SUNDAY SCARIES’ 1. Start with a Pre-Work Ritual: Kick off your day with a simple routine – grab a healthy breakfast, plan your tasks, and take a few deep breaths. A bit of consistency goes a long way in tackling stress, helping you feel more in control and ready to take on whatever the workday throws your way.
2. Get Clear on Your Expectations for the Week: Start each day or week by using Google’s Gemini Live to curate a personal to-do list that clarifies your top priorities and organises tasks by importance – less guesswork, less stress, all by just having a conversation with Gemini! Simply tap the voice icon on the Gemini app and ask for help. With a clear, prioritised list, it’s easier to stay focused and feel confident you’re meeting expectations.
3. Get Moving: Shake off the workday stress by adding some movement to your routine. Use your lunch break for a quick walk or, if time permits, take short exercise breaks throughout the day. A bit of activity can help you blow off steam, boost your mood, and feel more energised.
4. Fuel Your Focus with Smart Snack Planning: Staying energised through a busy day is crucial. Using AI you can create a snack or meal plan, with new ideas that don’t get boring, that still aligns with your nutrition goals, so you stay sharp without having to think about last-minute options. Out and about and need some inspiration for quick healthy snacks? Ask AI.
5. Conquer ‘What-to-Wear’ Worries: Choosing an outfit shouldn’t be a source of stress. Get personalised wardrobe ideas based on your schedule, the weather that day, and the day’s activities, so you can dress confidently and focus on your goals, not your wardrobe.
