Most rare and valuable Barbies revealed worth nearly £1,000 – do you have one in your attic?
BARBIE has been loved for generations and remains popular – but you might be surprised to learn some of your old dolls could earn you some cash.
The 2023 Barbie movie, starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, reignited the love for her, and she became hot property once again.
The famous doll can command high prices for collectors. So how do you know if you’re sitting on a goldmine?
Emily Young and David Joyson, from the insurance agency Homeprotect explained: “Barbie is a classic toy that has spanned generations, and her appeal shows no signs of slowing down.
“Our research found that ‘Barbie’ was the most searched term among the toy brands studied, with 368,000 average monthly searches in the UK alone.”
“In terms of resale value, Barbie is holding her own.”
Homeprotect analysed eBay’s sold listing data to find the five most popular Barbies to discover which items have earned sellers the most money this year. Here’s what they found.
Barbie Meadow mares horse
Barbie Meadow mares horse sold for over £900 on eBay[/caption]Emily and David said: “The most expensive of all Barbie’s sold on eBay in the UK recently is the Barbie Meadow mares horse.
“It sold for £928. The pre-owned item was sold in its original, unopened box in pristine condition.”
The companion to Barbie, released in 2001, comes with a saddle and bridle and a long mane that can be used to create fun and fancy hairstyles.
This particular toy was kept in good condition and in its original packaging.
These tend to have a higher resell price, meaning you’re more likely to make a profit.
Many of of Barbie’s accessories can be worth good money, too, but of course, Rarity is key.
One of the “holy grails” of Barbie houses is the 1990 Barbie Magical Mansion, which is incredibly rare and can fetch several thousands of pounds.
Silkstone fashion model Barbie
This chic Barbie was introduced in 2000[/caption]The Silkstone Barbie line was introduced in 2000 and can command a high price.
Each doll in the collection came with a vintage-inspired design, a high level of craftsmanship and a limited production run.
This particular doll – Artist Barbie from 2008 – wears a black beret perched atop her blonde hair and a chic black and white striped top.
She is also wearing a black skirt, fishnet stockings and red accessories, including a scarf, belt, and high heels.
It also comes with accompanying art supplies, including a palette and brushes.
Emily and David said: “Part of the Fashion Model collection designed by Robert Best for Mattel in 2008, this doll fetched £300 via eBay.
“Similarly, it came in its original box.”
The Sun's top tips for selling collectibles
IF you find a rare item in your attic, it can be difficult to know what to do with it and how to make cash.
Senior Consumer Reporter Olivia Marshall shares her top tips for selling your valuable collectables.
Research and Appraise
Before selling, thoroughly research your items to understand their value.
Consider getting a professional appraisal to ensure you’re aware of the current market value and any unique features that might increase their worth.
Choose the Right Platform
Select the best platform for selling your items.
Options include online marketplaces like eBay or Etsy, auction houses, antique shops, and specialised collectable fairs.
Each platform has its own audience and advantages.
High-Quality Photos and Descriptions
Take clear, high-resolution photos of your items from multiple angles.
Write detailed descriptions, including any known history, manufacturer marks, and condition.
This helps potential buyers make informed decisions.
Consider Timing
Timing can impact the selling price of your collectables and antiques.
Research trends and consider selling during peak times when demand might be higher, such as before holidays or during specific seasons.
Negotiate Wisely
Be prepared to negotiate with potential buyers.
Know your minimum acceptable price and be willing to stand firm if necessary.
However, also be open to reasonable offers to ensure a successful sale.
Following these tips can help maximise your chances of successfully selling your valuable collectables and antiques.
Movie Mixer Barbie
This movie star Barbie sold for £206 in 2007[/caption]This doll certainly looks like a movie star in her simple, satin dress of dusty rose pink.
She also has a matching pink purse, hair ribbon and purse as well as faux pearls and white-elbow length gloves.
Made in in 2007, this Barbie sold for £206 in its original box.
Christian Dior Barbie
Designer Barbies are highly sough after by collectors[/caption]Barbie collaborations with renowned fashion designers and brands – such as Christian Dior, Versace, or Vera Wang – are also highly sought after by collectors.
“The limited-edition Christian Dior Barbie, which was designed in 1996 to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the fashion house, celebrates the famous new look silhouette and Parisian influence,” Emly and David said.
“The elegant doll sold for £175 in 2024 and came in its original box.”
The Interview Barbie
Unlike the other Barbies, this one is a brunette[/caption]This movie star Barbie is dressed for a premier and ready to take any questions that she may get from the awaiting press.
She wears an uber-chic faux fur- trimmed jacket and skirt, with gloves, sunglasses and a golden bag.
And unlike the other barbies, this one is a brunette.
It sold for £200 on eBay in its original box.
How to sell your Barbie dolls
There are many different ways to sell your old Barbies.
Online marketplaces such as eBay and Etsy are some of the most easiest ways to do this.
They allow you to reach an international market, meaning you’re not limited to just a UK seller.
They also give you a good way of valuing a doll or collection by viewing items that have already been sold on the site.
If you’re confident your Barbie is of high value, look at a specialist collectables auction.
Auction houses like Sotheby’s and Bonhams often hold auctions specifically for collectible toys and dolls.
But it’s important to keep in mind that there may be fees and commission charges when selling through auctions.
Other options are to go to a toy or collectable fair or to contact a collectable dealer.
These dealers have expertise in valuing and selling collectable items and may be interested in purchasing your more valuable Barbies.
As always, beware that you’re never guaranteed to make a windfall.

Female ‘serial killer’ dubbed ‘Ms Cyanide’ is sentenced to DEATH after ‘poisoning 14 friends who had lent her money’
A SUSPECTED serial killer has been sentenced to death for poisoning her pal on holiday as she continues to face a string of murder charges.
Sararat Rangsiwuthaporn, 36, has been dubbed “Ms Cyanide” after she was accused of giving 14 of her friends the lethal chemical because she allegedly owed them money.

She is said to have smiled as the verdict was read out.
Sararat and Khanwong travelled to Ratchaburi province, together back in April 2023 to release fish into a pier and share some lunch.
But moments after eating Siriporn collapsed and died on the riverbank as Sararat watched on as she struggled, investigators said.
An autopsy carried out by Thai police later revealed the victim had ingested cyanide.
A complaint was filed by the 32-year-old victim’s mum and sister as cops started to investigate Sararat.
The shocking death prompted other families to come forward with horror stories of their loved ones dying after meeting up with Sararat.
Police quickly gathered up evidence and arrested the woman back in May 2023.
She was charged with fourteen counts of murder spanning back to 2015 with officials alleging cyanide was used in each death.
Cops say the people killed include pals, an ex-partner and a police officer known to Sararat.
You got justice, my child. Today, there is justice in this world
Thongpin Kiatchanasiri
A dozen were women while two were men.
Throughout the trial Sararat has continued to plead not guilty to all of the charges against her.
But she has confessed to using cyanide, according to Reuters citing police.
One person survived the alleged poisoning, court documents have revealed.
Siriporn’s heartbroken mum Thongpin Kiatchanasiri spoke in court as her daughter’s killer was jailed.
She held up a picture of Siriporn and said: “You got justice, my child. Today, there is justice in this world.”
Sararat has also been ordered to pay Siriporn’s family two million baht (£45,446) in compensation.
Police believe the killings were financially motivated after Sararat began racking up huge credit card debts due to gambling.
Deputy national police chief, Surachate Hakparn, said: “She asked people she knows for money because she has a lot of credit card debt.
“If they asked her for their money back, she started killing them.
“She had poisoned all 15 victims with cyanide that was placed in drinking water, food or medicines in the form of capsules.
“Financial problems were the motive for carrying out the cyanide murders.”
Three others involved in the case have also been charged with various crimes.
These include Sararat’s ex-husband, a former police officer and her lawyer.
They were handed prison terms of one year and four months, and two years respectively for hiding evidence to help the woman evade prosecution.
They had all pleaded not guilty before the sentencing.
Ex-husband, Vitoon Rangsiwuthaporn, gave himself up last year with police believing he is likely to have helped Sararat poison Suthisak Poonkwan – an ex-boyfriend.

DEAR DEIDRE: MY wife enjoys the high life so much that I’m convinced she’s offering herself up to her boss in exchange for designer gear.
Most upsetting is I can see she has no intention of stopping.
When I caught her out, she claimed the saucy pictures they’d exchanged were just flirting. It feels like she’s taking me for a fool.
I’m 34 & my wife is 32. We’ve been married for four years.
She’s always been very career driven, with a job that takes her all over the world.
It never bothered me, as we had a good relationship and a very satisfying sex life.
She likes the finer things in life – things I can’t always afford to pay for, like expensive jewellery.
Recently, I noticed she was becoming distant and I started to get suspicious. She also seemed to have new designer shoes.
I got suspicious and decided to check her phone when she was in the shower.
I found messages from her boss, referencing a conference abroad, with very suggestive remarks.
There was even a photo of her in underwear that I’ve never seen. It seemed clear that something sexual had occurred between them.
Gutted, I confronted her. She told me I was being ridiculous and that the messages were merely flirting.
She claimed she just played along with him to keep him sweet. She’s up for a promotion and she’s just making him think she likes him.
It doesn’t ring true. And where has she suddenly got the money for her new Louboutins?
To me, her lying is even worse than her cheating. It feels like I don’t know who she is anymore.
And if she isn’t having an affair, what she’s doing seems tantamount to prostitution.
MORE FROM DEAR DEIDRE
DEIDRE SAYS: Even if your wife is telling the truth – and it does seem doubtful – then what she’s doing is totally inappropriate, both as an employee and as a wife.
And any boss offering a promotion in return for sexy pics would be breaking any company’s policy and, almost certainly, the law.
Talk to her again and tell her how distressed you are about this. Ask if she’s really a willing participant, and if the gifts and promotion prospects are worth ruining your marriage for.
If she really doesn’t want to stop, then you need to think about whether you want to remain married to someone who has so little respect for you and your marriage vows.

I’m A Celebrity’s shock millionaire revealed – and he earns almost as much as Coleen Rooney
TELLY vicar Richard Coles is set to become the latest addition to the jungle – but he’s already made his million from being a man of the cloth.
Richard, 62, will enter I’m A Celebrity tonight, along with Love Island star Maura Higgins.
Reverend Richard Coles is entering I’m A Celebrity tonight[/caption] The TV vicar earns almost as much as campmate Coleen Rooney[/caption]Most of the constants in this year’s line-up are looking forward to big pay day in exchange for taking part in the show.
But former pop star Rev Coles, who was in 80s group The Communards with Jimmy Somerville, has already reaped in the benefits of being the nation’s favourite TV vicar.
Richard’s firm Mistramark Ltd has paid £179,047 in corporation tax over 2022 and 2023.
The rate at the time was 19 per cent, meaning the company netted around £940k profit.
The business is sitting on £542,977 in ready cash in the bank.
It also has healthy reserves of £354,477, which is three times the previous year of £128,736.
The rich Rev – who was also in 80s band Bronski Beat – is up there as a one of the best paid stars on the box.
Along with his music career, Richard has made his money from his successful career on the box.
He has appeared on shows including Strictly Come Dancing, Celebrity MasterChef, Songs Of Praise and Newsnight Review, along with panel game shows such as Have I Got News For You? and QI.
Richard has worked in radio and has also penned a pile of successful crime novels, along with a top selling autobiography.
Yet the Rev Richard is still terrified of what lies ahead on I’m A Celeb, as he is scared of heights and is praying that he won’t be made to do a challenge which includes it.
Confessing which trials he fears most, Richard said: “Anything up high.
“I actually froze with fear on the stepladder the other day.
“So anything which means walking some horrible, rickety tightrope or something.
“But I know that there will be somebody burly with a harness to keep me from falling.”
Speaking about preparing for jungle life by slimming down, Richard also joked: “My run-up to the show was going on a cruise, so I’ve been on a, like, 5,000 calories a day diet.
“So I think I’m already fatter since my measurements the day before yesterday.
“So no, I’ve not done that at all. I tried to, and I thought I should, because I imagine the body will notice going from 5,000 calories a day to 500 calories a day.”
Richard and Love Island star Maura will head into the Australian jungle as latecomers tonight.
The pair are facing a horrible twist, however, and will reportedly be dumped in Jungle Junkyard with no luxury items.
