EastEnders’ Natalie Cassidy wades into Strictly fix row claiming Pete Wicks should have been eliminated
FORMER Strictly Come Dancing contestant and EastEnders actress Natalie Cassidy has given her thoughts on the latest Strictly result.
The Sonia Fowler actress has shared her thoughts on the Blackpool special of Strictly Come Dancing, which saw Pete Wicks in the dance off but saved by judges.
Pete Wicks and Jowita Przystal routine has been heavily criticised for being ‘overmarked’[/caption] EastEnders star Natalie Cassidy has claimed that Pete Wicks should have gone home from Strictly, instead of being saved by the judges[/caption]Speaking on her podcast with Gavin & Stacey star Joanna Page, Natalie said: “I do think Pete should have gone before him. I’m just talking now about dancing.
“I’m not a professional dancer but Pete knows that. Did you see Pete’s face?
“Bless his heart, he genuinely could not believe he was still in. He’s almost embarrassed to still be in it.”
The comments come after viewers raged over the result over the weekend, as Wynne Evans and Katya Jones were the latest couple to exit.
Pete was praised on the night by head judge Shirley Ballas, who was left giggling like a schoolgirl, the 64-year-old could barely compose herself enough to critique the routine.
Egging her on, Pete asked her: “Shirley, how do you feel darling? I feel great!”
She replied: “I’ll have to calm myself down. Well, do you know what, you had some very nice isolation.”
She added: “I don’t think I’m going to forget this evening for as long as I live, darling.”
But some fans were furious that the usually technique-obsessed panelist scored the haphazard routine a generous eight.
Some slammed Shirley for “objectifying” Pete, claiming there would be outrage if a male judge made bawdy comments about a female contestant and overmarked their performance in a similar way.
For the past nine weeks the public vote has helped Pete dodge the dance-off as he regularly languished at the lower end of the leaderboard.
Each week the judges’ scores are combined with the public vote, meaning even a couple who have scored poorly can be carried through by their popularity among viewers.
But some fans are frustrated that his success comes at the expense of other, arguably more talented dancers.

IN THE heart of the East Midlands lies one of the best-kept secrets for a family outing.
Belton House is located just a five-minute drive from the town of Grantham in the southwest corner of Lincolnshire.

After the estate was given to the care of the National Trust, it has been transformed into the perfect UK day out for adults and youngsters alike…
Huge outdoor playground
Belton, which offers free admission for children under five, is home to what is officially the National Trust’s largest outdoor kid’s adventure playground.
Open daily, it features incredible wooden constructions set in an ancient wilderness, within which little ones can explore by swinging, climbing and jumping their way through obstacles.
There are rope bridges, long slides and swings among the many playtime options, which cater to a range of ages and abilities.
One of playground highlights is the opportunity to ride in a miniature train, which usually operates Friday to Sunday or every day during Lincolnshire school holidays.
Tickets cost £2 for adults and £1.50, all proceeds of which are channelled back into keeping the teeny rail service running.
Hollywood-worthy film set
The beauty of Belton has meant it has been a draw for some of the most iconic on-screen hits around.
Most famously, it was used to film scenes for the 1995 adaptation of the BBC’s Pride and Prejudice, starring Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle.
The gardens were the setting for the run-up to Mr Darcy’s first excruciating marriage proposal to Elizabeth Bennett.
However, more recently, production descended for the upcoming spin-off series of Netflix’s Bridgerton, which will focus on character Queen Charlotte.
In Belton’s grounds, the Italian garden and orangery were used to shoot, while the Marble Hall, scullery and kitchen corridors were enlisted inside the property.

Back in 1971, a 22-year-old King Charles – then a prince – stayed at Belton House while learning to fly at nearby RAF Cranwell, where his son Prince Harry would also go on to train.
Many years later, it was reported that Princess Diana was keen to purchase the property as their country residence instead of Highgrove in Gloucestershire, which she felt was too close to Camilla Parker Bowles.
She is believed to have heard from her older sister Lady Sarah McCorquodale – who still lives at nearby Stoke Rochford Hall – that Belton was being put up for sale by the 7th Lord Brownlow.
The Prince and Princess of Wales drove several times to view the property, which is also close to the monarch’s residence in Sandringham in Norfolk, in 1982.
However, the decision was made to stay put, and Belton was ultimately donated to the National Trust in 1984.
Stunning interiors
While there’s much to enjoy in the grounds of Belton House, visitors shouldn’t miss the mansion’s numerous grand rooms.
On the walls are a huge collection of portraits from the from 16th to the 20th century, and on display is also a selection of rare Chinese porcelain.
More interesting still, is that Belton is home to the National Trust’s second largest library – with 11,000 books, half of which were printed before 1801.
And when you’ve finished taking everything in, head to the old stables where there is a café serving tea and scones.

RTE Fair City star Johnny Ward has opened up on his mum’s ongoing health battle.
The actor’s mum Kathy was diagnosed with Takotsubo cardiomyopathy, also known as broken heart syndrome, after the death of her husband and Johnny’s father, in 2019.
Johnny Ward’s mum was recently diagnosed with cancer[/caption]Kathy has since struggled with her health battle as she later suffered a heart attack and a stroke.
After the now-73-year-old’s stroke, Johnny made the decision to move back into his family home in order to take care of her.
In March 2021 his sister Maureen moved back in with their mum while he was busy working on a project, which is when he met his wife Brenda.
Johnny’s mum was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year and has “been in and out of the hospital” ever since.
The 37-year-old told RSVP Live: “It’s been very up and down. She went through quite a major surgery called a Whipple surgery. It’s pretty much where they take out part of the pancreas, the gallbladder and a large part of her bowel and pretty much stitch it all back together.
“It’s a very serious procedure and recovery is very slow. As of now, she has been transferred over to convalescent care, so that’s one step closer to getting her home from there.”
The Walkinstown native shared how grateful he is to have a good support system that can also help out.
He said: “I’ve found myself extremely lucky, number one because of where I live. Tallaght Hospital is down the road, James’s Hospital is down the road.”
“But I also know I’m so lucky that if there is a planned event or a wedding or something like that, I have amazing neighbours and amazing friends and members of my family have just been incredible. I genuinely don’t know what I would have done if I didn’t have family members, friends, or neighbours.”
And while it’s been difficult on Johnny watching his mum sick, he spoke about how much he loves spending time with her.
Johnny added: “I wouldn’t have it any other way. It’s an absolute no brainer. Of course there’s things you do have to sacrifice, my wife Brenda and I were supposed to go to Lanzarote for a week this year but my mum had just been transferred over to St James’s Hospital so I wasn’t going to do that.
“You cancel those things and there is a lot of cancelling. You just have to get used to a schedule and a timetable of inconsistency.”
The Love/Hate star has joined with Lidl to launch their new charity partnership with Family Carers Ireland, which supports half a million family carers around the country.
The retailer has pledged to raise €1 million over the next three years in support of the charity‘s vital work.
CARRIGSTOWN RETURN
Johnny, who is best known for his role as Ciaran Holloway in Fair City, returned to Carrigstown recently after five years off air.
Ciarán is most famous for keeping Katy O’Brien in a box for over a year, as revenge against her brother Emmett.
After he kidnapped her and she got away, 13 months later, he then came back and took her grandmother Rose, before fleeing in 2019.
The storyline gripped the nation, with an online #freeKaty campaign launched and frequent mentions on Liveline.
The infamous villain returned on screens this September when he stunned Damien in prison after making his presence known inside.
Damien was arrested after he lashed out at James but knocked over Buckley in the process.
