Four baby classes for new parents that won’t break the bank
FINDING new friends and connections is a great support when becoming a new parent.
But baby classes can be pricey — and at a time when budgets are already stretched.
Here are ways to meet people and get out with your little one, without breaking the bank . . .
PEANUT: Peanut is an app for mums looking to meet other mums and provides an online community that can offer support and tips.
You can swipe through profiles of other women in your area to find new friends, as well as use different sub-groups and communities to find people with shared interests.
The app is free to join and download, though there are in-app purchases which can help find friends faster.
MORRISONS: Morrisons has launched Meet-up Mondays in its cafes to help parents and carers build connections.
Join the supermarket’s Baby & Toddler Club through the More card app and you will also get a free cake with the purchase of any hot drink, with prices starting from £1.85.
PLAYGROUPS: Local churches often run playgroups where parents are offered a hot drink while small children play.
These groups typically run on weekday mornings and are a great way to meet local parents.
The sessions don’t usually cost more than £2.
Check your local churches to find details.
BABY CLASSES: If you are expecting a baby, the NHS offers free antenatal classes.
The sessions help prepare for a baby’s birth, including information on a birth plan and feeding, among other key issues.
These classes are also a good way to connect with people expecting babies around the same time as you, providing a support network of people going through the same issues.
Ask your GP or midwife about classes, or search www.nhs.uk/service-search/other-health-services.
