Andy Murray reveals only thing that made Rafa Nadal lose his temper as he posts gushing tribute to retired tennis legend
ANDY MURRAY praised retired Rafa Nadal for never losing his temper on a tennis court but then joked: You did smash loads of PlayStation controllers in anger!
Nadal, 38, called time on his illustrious 23-year career after Spain crashed out of the Davis Cup quarter-finals in Malaga following a 2-1 defeat to Holland.
There was no triumphant ending as Nadal, his body ravaged by recent injuries, lost the opening singles tie to Botic van de Zandschulp, someone he would have easily thumped in his pomp.
Once the last-eight result was known, Nadal became emotional as he addressed the crowd in Malaga and a late-night tear-jerking presentation took place with video contributions from Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Serena Williams and David Beckham.
Murray, 37, paid his respects to a rival he managed to beat only seven times in 24 meetings since their first encounter at the 2007 Australian Open.
But he revealed that the Mallorca hitter used to violently throw handheld computer console controllers whenever he lost an online football game to the Scotsman.
Murray – who retired from tennis after the Paris Olympics – said: “Hi Rafa, just wanted to send you a quick message to congratulate you on the most incredible career.
“I’ve always been a huge fan of yours and it’s been incredible to watch you, practice with you and get the chance to compete against you throughout all these years, since we first met as 13-14-year-old kids.
“The passion and intensity that you played with not just on the match court but on the practice court was something that I think all tennis players aspire to. And what all tennis fans will remember you for.
“We’ve also learned so much from you over the years about humility, hard work and most importantly respect for everybody.

“You’re probably the only tennis player ever to have never thrown their racquet in anger, which is incredible.
“However, this wasn’t the case when you would lose at PlayStation.
“I’ve seen Rafa throwing PlayStation controllers around hotel rooms all over the world.
“When he and his close friend Juan Monaco would lose a late goal to me with his beloved Real Madrid at Pro Evolution Soccer.
“Anyway, I’m sure your body is looking forward to a well-earned rest.
It’s been incredible watching you. Thanks for everything, Rafa. Enjoy retirement man.”
Nadal, who does not plan to play in 2025, leaves the sport with 22 singles Slams – two fewer than the record set by Djokovic.
That tally includes an unprecedented 14 French Opens, two Wimbledon Championships, two triumphs at the Australian Open and four in the US Open.
He wiped away the tears and said: “The titles, numbers, they’re there.
“People probably know that. The way I’d like to be remembered more is like a good person from a small village in Mallorca.”
Liam Payne laid to rest in moving service with nod to his love of ten pin bowling, Batman & passion to help sick kids
MILLIONS knew Liam Payne as a superstar who shot to fame with One Direction — but yesterday he was remembered as a son, brother and dad.
Just over a month after his shocking death at the age of just 31, his family and closest friends came together at his funeral to pay their final respects.

Inside the church, a choir sang as Liam’s nearest and dearest struggled to come to terms with their “unfathomable” loss.
Those who knew Liam best also gave readings — with the star’s huge generosity at the centre of the emotional send-off.
A friend said: “The service was beautiful but for everyone inside the church, the loss of Liam is still unfathomable.
“A choir performed during the service and Liam’s personality shone through in all of the details.
“The readings given during the service were incredibly personal and painted a picture of what Liam was really like.
“He was kind, generous and put everyone else first. The service was centred on this.
“Liam as a son, a brother and a father. The man that he was behind closed doors. The man who went out of his way to help others. The fact he is no longer with us is still incomprehensible.”
Locals turned out to respectfully line the streets before the service in Amersham, Bucks.
Floral tributes yesterday came from his parents, Geoff and Karen, and, most poignantly, from his seven-year-old son, Bear.
There was also a nod to Liam’s love of ten-pin bowling — while flowers were left at a shrine in his home city of Wolverhampton.
His funeral also saw donations for sick children in tribute to Liam’s generosity.
In the months leading up to his death, the star had quietly helped many in need. He gave £10,000 for one poorly youngster’s treatment while another £770 went to a young girl’s medical bills after she was injured during a school shooting.
In other acts of kindness, he helped a young girl diagnosed with a stage two Wilms tumour on her kidney.

Mourners were asked to continue Liam’s legacy with a donation to help build a new Children’s Cancer Centre at London’s Great Ormond Street Hospital.
A friend said: “Generosity was Liam to a tee. His family knew that Liam cared greatly for others and, as painful as his death was, they know Liam would have taken a huge amount of pride in knowing that he was still able to help others.
“Large sums of money were donated to this in Liam’s name yesterday and it will help so many children.”
Liam’s passions were also highlighted, including his love of Batman. Cars that drove his friends to the service had the superhero’s logo on the window.

But there were many who loved Liam who were unable to attend. Robbie Williams — who paid tribute after Liam’s death — and former X Factor judge Nicole Scherzinger are understood to have been in contact with his family and sent flowers.
His One Direction bandmates — Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik and Niall Horan — were all there yesterday in a touching show of support and togetherness.
A friend added: “No one knows what it was like to be in One Direction like these five men.
“They may not have been in contact all the time but the bond they share is unbreakable. Liam was the ‘dad’ of the band, always speaking up when the others needed him to.
“Harry, Louis, Zayn and Niall are all now having to navigate a path none of them ever thought they would go down. They were all there yesterday to support Liam’s family and one another.”
Afterwards at a wake held nearby more stories and memories were shared about Liam.
A friend said: “Life will, as it always does, continue.
“But for the people in Liam’s life, the people who loved him, they now face a long road ahead.”

A MUM has defended her outfit choices after being told she’s “too old” to wear a revealing dress.
Glamorous Lynne Cavanagh, 45, has three kids and is often mistaken for someone much younger than her age.
Mum Lynne picked up a revealing dress for her birthday[/caption] Lynne had to defend her outfit after being told she was ‘too old’ to wear it[/caption]She loves fashion and regularly shares clips of the figure-hugging outfits she picks up.
In a recent TikTok post (@lynnelxx), Lynne revealed she was trying to decide on an outfit for her birthday weekend.
And she fell in love with a black cut-out bodycon dress that exposed her midriff, which she paired with knee-high heeled boots.
She said: “It sits just underneath your boobs. I wanted something with long sleeves. I love this.”
But she also sighed: “I’m not too sure if I’m too old for it.”
Social media users were quick to reassure her that the outfit was perfect, as one insisted: “Never too old, you have a fab figure. If you’ve got it, flaunt it.”
A second echoed: “You got the figure to wear anything beautiful.”
Meanwhile, a third chimed in: “Definitely not too old Lynne you look FAF [fit as f***].”
Others, however, were less complimentary – and claimed that the dress wasn’t appropriate for a 45-year-old.
One hater sneered: “About 30yrs too old for that.”
A second said: “It is more for younger girls. Not saying you’re old, you’re beautiful and have an amazing figure.”
And a third wrote: “Too old for it.”
But mum-of-three Lynne immediately hit back: “I am old but I think fashion is for any age as long as you rock it.
“Some people are big on age stuff, that doesn’t bother me.”
Lynne earlier revealed the “sad” part of her body that she feels insecure about – and it forces her to be creative on holidays.
She said: “I love going on holiday and I love a tan but my lips are all chapped and my knees look miserable.
“They look even more miserable with a tan.
“Women, the older we get, everything goes south. So we end up with sad knees.
“That bit of skin above your knee that curves around your knee and it just looks like a constant miserable face.
“Well it’s got a tan and it’s more tanned than my actual knee.
“So I need to sit with my legs bent for my skin to look nice.”
