Indian restaurant crowned best in Scotland at ‘Curry Oscars’ and it’s not in Glasgow or Edinburgh
SCOTLAND’S top Indian restaurant was crowned at the “Oscars of the curry world” – and it’s not in Glasgow or Edinburgh.
The top gong was awarded to one Scots eatery at a glittering ceremony in London at the weekend.

Over 200 restaurants and takeaways battled it out in the final shortlist for the accolade.
Judges from the Asian Catering Federation (ACF) determined the overall champs, and out of 72 winners, just three Scots establishments were recognised.
While Charcoals in Glasgow‘s Trongate and Spice Tandoori in Elgin were recognised as Asian Restaurant of The Year in their respective areas, an Aberdeen eatery bagged the biggest prize for the country.
Light of Bengal in the Granite City was crowned Asian Restaurant of the Year for Scotland.
With over 400 rave reviews on Google, the Indian restaurant has a 4.3-star rating.
Regular customers praise the “excellent restaurant” for “serving high quality food at very reasonable prices”.
Staff at Light of Bengal took to social media to share their delight at the honour.
They wrote on Facebook: “We did it! Thrilled to announce we’ve won Asian Restaurant of the Year at the Asian Curry Awards! A heartfelt thank you to everyone who supported and voted for us – this is your victory too!”
Customers flooded the comments with praise for the local restaurant.
One wrote: “You all do an excellent job, food is second to none.”
Another added: “Very well deserved.”
The much-loved Charcoals in Glasgow also secured a double win, with manager Muhammad Sultan receiving special recognition as a ‘Curry King’.
Chairman of the Asian Catering Federation Yawar Khan said: “We’re delighted by the number of people who have taken the time to vote for their favourite restaurant this year.
“The standard of finalists is exceptional and we also have some excellent newcomers on the list which is great news for the industry as it continues to flourish in today’s challenging economic climate.”
