GMB’s Richard Madeley fights back tears live on air – as I’m A Celeb star rushes to hug Kate Garraway

GOOD Morning Britain anchor Richard Madeley admitted he was “teary” during an emotional moment with co-presenter Kate Garraway.

It came as Kate, 57, Richard, 68, and fellow ITV show anchor Susanna Reid, 53, welcomed rapper Naughty Boy, 43, to the programme’s sofa on Thursday.

Naughty Boy, who starred on I’m A Celeb back in 2021, was being interviewed for Good Morning Britain on International Carers Day about looking after his mum Zahida.

His parent – who affectionately terms him “good boy” – has been in his care following a stroke, with a diagnosis of dementia soon after.

The Watford-born DJ and record producer was hailed a “wonderful son” by a touched Richard, before Susanna asked if carers share a “bond.”

Naughty Boy, real name Shahid Khan, agreed and said: “You know what it takes.”

Kate added: “You know what it takes, people say you don’t know because it’s not something we like to think about, either needing to be cared for or someone we love needing care.

“So people avoid it, so when you’ve been in it there is a bond.”

Naughty Boy added of his network of support: “Having family members that can step in and lighten the load, that helps me finish my new album.

“And I can dedicate it to mum and i can still put the soul and spirit into it that it needs.”

Naughty Boy, who is famed for working with a host of celebrities like Beyonce on Runnin’, then handed a book called The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari to Good Morning Britain favourite Kate.

He told her: “I wanted to bring one for you Kate.

“It might be more of a spiritual thing, so I’m going to read it myself, and if it inspires you …”

The pair then held hands as Kate said: “That’s so kind of you.

“Thank you so much I’m going to read that, bless you.”

Current presenters:

  • Susanna Reid (presenters Monday to Wednesday and alternate Thursdays) – 2014 to present
  • Kate Garraway (presenters alternate Thursdays and Fridays) – 2014 to present
  • Martin Lewis (Money Saving Expert) – 2021 to present
  • Richard Madeley (presents Monday to Thursday) – 2022 to present
  • Ed Balls (presents on a rotating basis) – 2022 to present
  • Adil Ray (presents on Fridays) – 2024 to present
  • Robert Rinder (presents on a rotating basis) – 2024 to present

Former presenters:

  • Ben Shephard (Thursdays and Fridays) – 2014 to 2024
  • Piers Morgan (Monday to Wednesday) – 2015 to 2021
  • Lorraine Kelly (Monday to Friday) – 2022

She then asked if she could give him a hug to which he replied: “Of course.”

Richard was then seen dabbing his eyes with his hands.

He told the GMB viewers: “It’s a bit teary up here,” before sniffing and coughing and transferring to the weather segment.

Richard has previously told how he fears he will get dementia in later life – but admitted he would “go down fighting” if he did.

One fan was also quick to take to X after the segment to write: “Naughty boy is clearly a good boy.”

KATE’S STORY

Mum of two Kate joined the group on the sofa after her experience of caring for her late husband Derek Draper.

She has been a staunch campaigner for the rights of carers for the past few years, continuing her support following his sad passing in January.

Back in May, the TV anchor and radio host bravely told how she was “trying to keep my head above water” during her rough year.

Her spouse, former political lobbyist Derek, tragically died aged 56 in January, following four years of health struggles.

Kate had previously told of her heartbreak at her first birthday since spouse Derek’s passing.

Kate marked her 57th birthday on May 4 – admitting the first celebrations without Derek were understandably tough.

Derek was left fighting for his life in hospital after suffering a heart attack over the festive period but was already one of the UK’s longest-suffering Covid patients, after being diagnosed in March 2020.

She paid a touching tribute to her late spouse at his funeral in February and, just days later, made her “brave” GMB return.

Kate recently told how she was withdrawing cash from her pension early to try to stem the crippling costs of the bills – as she again shone the spotlight on key issues for unpaid carers.

On a previous GMB episode, she also admitted she had looked into the same finance technique to release funds from Derek’s pension when he was still alive, in order to again pay off the fees.

This week, Kate headed to Westminster with a carers group to help make their voices heard to MPs and ministers.

Fears for Martin Brundle’s future on Sky Sports as pundit tips iconic reporter to follow F1 legend out the door

MARTIN BRUNDLE could be the next pundit dropped from Sky Sports F1 after Damon Hill’s exit.

That is the view of Johnny Herbert, who himself was dropped by the broadcaster in 2022.

Herbert suggested Damon Hill was dropped because of criticism of Max Verstappen[/caption]

Three-time Formula One race winner Herbert, 60, joined at the same time as 1996 world champion Hill.

However, it was announced last week that Hill would be departing Sky Sports F1 at the end of the season.

Brundle was among those to pay a touching tribute to the 64-year-old, writing on social media: “Damon I’ve had the pleasure and privilege of both racing against you and commentating on you in F1, working alongside you on SkyF1, and decades of friendship.

“It’s been a blast, with much more to come.”

But Herbert reckons it may soon be the likes of 65-year-old Brundle or even commentator David Croft who are next shown the exit door.

Although he also believes that Hill’s criticism of Red Bull driver Max Verstappen was also a factor in the decision.

Speaking to FlashscoreUSA.com, Herbert said: “I don’t know whether it was [Hill’s] decision or Sky’s, to be honest.

“Was it an enjoyment factor? Potentially. I know he got criticism for the Max scenarios and maybe he felt, ‘You know what, I don’t need that.’

“There is change going on. If he was pushed, then you wonder what could happen to Martin Brundle and David Croft.”

Herbert also claims Hill was left “unhappy” with the backlash he received for voicing his views on Verstappen.

He added: “He was very unhappy at the crazy level of abuse he got over his Max comments.

“Maybe all that negativity made him decide.”

Announcing his exit, Hill said: “It’s been a fantastic 13 years with Sky Sports F1 but all good things come to an end.

“I will miss the most impressive bunch of professionals it has ever been my pleasure to have worked with. Looking forward to new challenges.”

The F1 title looks set to be wrapped up by the Dutchman in Las Vegas as he only needs to better the score of McLaren’s Lando Norris by three points to secure a fourth title in a row.

Verstappen took almost complete control of the title race after a brilliant recovery drive around a wet Brazil circuit as he raced from P17 to finish first, while Norris only finished P6 after starting on pole.

Gary Neville negotiated my Man Utd contract with Sir Alex Ferguson – he made him give me more money

DANNY SIMPSON claims Gary Neville bagged him more cash after negotiating his Manchester United contract with Sir Alex Ferguson.

Simpson, 37, came up through the ranks at Old Trafford but played just eight times before joining Newcastle in 2009.

The right-back, who also played for QPR and Leicester, was at one stage hailed as a future Red Devils star.

And he took plenty of inspiration from fan favourite Neville, who played in his position.

But Simpson knew he was tucked firmly under his fellow defender’s wing when Neville went face-to-face with Sir Alex in contract talks.

Fergie famously hated dealing with agents when he would negotiate deals.

The Scot did it all during his time at United manager, sorting out moves and renewals while also coaching his side to titles.

And in a stroke of genius, Simpson decided against using an agent in contract talks with Ferguson, instead leaving negotiations to pal Neville.

It worked wonderfully too, with Simpson revealing his mate actually bagged him more money.

Simpson, who won a Premier League title with Leicester in 2016, told talkSPORT: “Gary Neville actually negotiated my contract with Fergie.

“As a young kid, when you’re starting to knock on the door and get around the first team, you’re scared that you’re going to annoy him.

“He’d go, ‘I want to give you a new contract,’ and you’d say to him, ‘My agent will see you.’

“You were scared to say that. Whereas now it’s the first thing you say.

“I’m thinking, ‘If I say that, he’s going to bin me off.’ So I spoke to Gaz and Gaz was like, ‘I’ll go see him for you.’

“It was me, Gaz and Sir Alex in the room.

“I didn’t really know what to do. So I’m just sat there in the middle.

“He (Neville) actually got me more money, to be fair. He actually didn’t [ask for a cut].

“The Gaz that you see now is always that Gaz.”
