Liam’s funeral was ‘hardest day of Cheryl’s life’ as choir sang and friends & family gave ‘incredibly personal’ readings

LIAM Payne’s funeral was the “hardest day of Cheryl’s life” – as the choir sang and his family gave “incredibly personal” readings.

Millions knew Liam as a superstar who shot to fame with One Direction — but yesterday he was remembered as a son, brother and dad.

Just over a month after his shocking death at the age of just 31, his family and closest friends came together at his funeral to pay their final respects.

A friend said: “The service was beautiful but for everyone inside the church, the loss of Liam is still unfathomable.

“A choir performed during the service and Liam’s personality shone through in all of the details.

“The readings given during the service were incredibly personal and painted a picture of what Liam was really like.

“He was kind, generous and put everyone else first. The service was centred on this.

“Liam as a son, a brother and a father. The man that he was behind closed doors.

“The man who went out of his way to help others. The fact he is no longer with us is still incomprehensible.”

Another friend said: “Generosity was Liam to a tee. His family knew that Liam cared greatly for others.

“As painful as his death was, they know Liam would have taken a huge amount of pride in knowing that he was still able to help others.

“Large sums of money were donated to this in Liam’s name yesterday and it will help so many children.”

On what was the hardest day of her life Cheryl Tweedy, the mother of his young son Bear, was supported by her Girls Aloud bandmates Kimberley Walsh and Nicola Roberts.

Locals turned out to respectfully line the streets before the service in Amersham, Bucks.

Floral tributes yesterday came from his parents, Geoff and Karen, and, most poignantly, from his seven-year-old son, Bear.

There was also a nod to Liam’s love of ten-pin bowling — while flowers were left at a shrine in his home city of Wolverhampton.

His funeral also saw donations for sick children in tribute to Liam’s generosity.

In the months leading up to his death, the star had quietly helped many in need. He gave £10,000 for one poorly youngster’s treatment while another £770 went to a young girl’s medical bills after she was injured during a school shooting.

In other acts of kindness, he helped a young girl diagnosed with a stage two Wilms tumour on her kidney.

Mourners were asked to continue Liam’s legacy with a donation to help build a new Children’s Cancer Centre at London’s Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Liam’s passions were also highlighted, including his love of BatmanCars that drove his friends to the service had the superhero’s logo on the window.

Mourners included broadcaster and fellow West Brom fan Adrian ChilesGavin & Stacey star James Corden and ex-Spurs striker Robbie Keane

But there were many who loved Liam who were unable to attend. Robbie Williams — who paid tribute after Liam’s death — and former X Factor judge Nicole Scherzinger are understood to have been in contact with his family and sent flowers.

His One Direction bandmates — Harry StylesLouis TomlinsonZayn Malik and Niall Horan — were all there yesterday in a touching show of support and togetherness.

A friend added: “No one knows what it was like to be in One Direction like these five men.

“They may not have been in contact all the time but the bond they share is unbreakable. Liam was the ‘dad’ of the band, always speaking up when the others needed him to.

“Harry, Louis, Zayn and Niall are all now having to navigate a path none of them ever thought they would go down. They were all there yesterday to support Liam’s family and one another.”

Afterwards at a wake held nearby more stories and memories were shared about Liam.

A friend said: “Life will, as it always does, continue.

“But for the people in Liam’s life, the people who loved him, they now face a long road ahead.”

Brit Hollywood heartthrob unrecognisable as he transforms into serial killer Ed Gein for series – can you guess who?

CHARLIE Hunnam looked unrecognisable as he transformed into serial killer Ed Gein for a new series.

Brit Hollywood heartthrob Charlie, 44, is set to star as the notorious murderer and body snatcher in the third season of Netflix‘s anthology series Monster.

The project has faced much criticism for its previous installments but remains highly anticipated.

On location in Los Angeles, Charlie looked nearly unrecognisable as he adopted a clean-shaven look and a gelled-down comb-over hairstyle.

The actor was seen wearing a brown and green, striped button-down shirt layered with a red, plaid worker’s jacket.

He paired his get-up with brown straight-leg trousers and distressed leather lace-up boots.

On set, Charlie was photographed chatting with a police officer while dressed in his 1950s-inspired costume.

Unlike the chilling role he is playing, Charlie appeared cheerful and relaxed as he interacted with cast and crew between scenes.

Vicky Krieps, Charlie’s co-star, was also seen on set, wearing a bright yellow dress, a blonde wig, and taupe trainers.

The Monster anthology series first gained attention with Evan Peters starring as Jeffrey Dahmer in 2022’s debut season.

The upcoming third season will also feature Tom Hollander, Laurie Metcalf, and Olivia Williams in prominent roles.

Carl Franklin, who worked on the first two installments of Monster, is returning to direct.

Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan will continue as executive producers for the series.

Filming began last month and is scheduled to continue until March 31, 2025.

No official release date has been confirmed for the third season of Monster.

Gein, the character Charlie is portraying, was a notorious American murderer and body snatcher.

Known as the “Butcher of Plainfield,” Gein exhumed corpses and used the remains to create disturbing items, including furniture and clothing.

Gein’s crimes led to his arrest in 1957, and he spent nearly 30 years in a psychiatric hospital before dying of lung cancer at age 77 on July 26, 1984.

Ryan announced Charlie’s casting in September while promoting Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.

How many siblings does I’m a Celeb contestant Oti Mabuse have?

I’M A Celebrity star Oti Mabuse and her sister Motsi are both best known for being on Strictly Come Dancing.

Whilst in the jungle, Oti opened up about the sisters losing their brother when he was young. Here we take a look at the life of their siblings.

I’m A Celebrity star Oti Mabuse has become one of TV’s hottest properties.

After launching to fame on Strictly Come Dancing back in 2015, she made the decision to switch to ITV and join Dancing On Ice in 2022.

But before that fans will remember her working alongside her sister Motsi on Strictly.

However, the two siblings have another sister, who was once dubbed the “best dancer of the three”.

The three sisters also had a brother, who sadly passed away as a teenager.

Motsi

Motsi and Oti are both known for Strictly[/caption]

Born in 1981, Motsi, who is the oldest of the siblings, is best known for being a judge on Strictly Come Dancing.

The talented star was revealed as Darcey Bussell’s replacement on the hit show back in 2019.

The South African dancer was also a judge on the German version of Strictly, called Let’s Dance, which Oti danced on for two series.

Before joining Strictly, as Oti was already on the show, Motsi told The Sun how Mabuse family met to discuss the situation.

“We had a family conversation,” explained Motsi, “Everybody was involved because it was such a big decision. There was a bit of anxiety within the family [about the two sisters on the show] and how [it would work].

“They were like: ‘You can’t judge your sister.’ I said: ‘I’m not judging my sister.’ So it was for the family to say: ‘Everybody be at their best and then we are all good.’

“And I remember after the first day, Oti said: ‘You were so good. You light it up. I’m so proud.’”

Phemelo

Phemelo is the middle sibling out of the Mabuse sisters[/caption]

Born in 1984, Phemelo, who is the middle child of the family, keeps away from the limelight as she works as a mechanical engineer in South Africa.

Nonetheless, she shares Oti and Motsi’s dancing abilities, keeping a toe in the professional dance world and competing at the World Dance Championships.

Oti revealed on the Jonathan Ross Show: “To be honest, we have another sister, middle sister, she was the better dancer.

“She’s a mechanical engineer. She designs windmills which create electricity through wind in South Africa.”

The proud sister revealed how her older sibling won the South African title in Latin American & Ballroom as a juvenile, junior and youth.

Phemelo went on to compete at world championship level four times, as well as teaching dance in Pretoria and Johannesburg.

The sisters’ are rarely seen together, with the third sister only making a single appearance on Celebrity Gogglebox in 2021.

Neo

The Mabuse sisters’ brother Neo passed away as a teenager

During her time on I’m A Celebrity, Oti opened up about the devastating death of her brother Neo.

She revealed he took his own life when he was a teenager.

Neo was the three sisters’ half-brother who their mother, Dudu, welcomed from a previous relationship before meeting Oti, Motsi, and Phemelo’s father, Peter Mabuse.

Speaking to her campmates, Oti said: “I had a brother who committed suicide when he was 16 and I think, if he had spoken to someone about what he was feeling, it would’ve been a different turnout.”

The dancer added: “Especially in our culture, we don’t really open up.”

Motsi has also previously opened up about her brother’s death.

Speaking in her book, Chili in the Blood: My Dance Through Life, she talked about the impact it had on her family.

“Because the people of Africa are very religious and superstitious, something bad arose in our neighbourhood,” Motsi wrote. “With the suicide of Neo, our family was seen as one where there was a negative energy.”

She added: “Because of this rumour, no one came to us any more, because it was feared that the bad energy applied to the visitor.”

You're Not Alone

EVERY 90 minutes in the UK a life is lost to suicide

It doesn’t discriminate, touching the lives of people in every corner of society – from the homeless and unemployed to builders and doctors, reality stars and footballers.

It’s the biggest killer of people under the age of 35, more deadly than cancer and car crashes.

And men are three times more likely to take their own life than women.

Yet it’s rarely spoken of, a taboo that threatens to continue its deadly rampage unless we all stop and take notice, now.

That is why The Sun launched the You’re Not Alone campaign.

The aim is that by sharing practical advice, raising awareness and breaking down the barriers people face when talking about their mental health, we can all do our bit to help save lives.

Let’s all vow to ask for help when we need it, and listen out for others… You’re Not Alone.

If you, or anyone you know, needs help dealing with mental health problems, the following organisations provide support:

Girlfriend of Scots PDC darts star admits she’s dreading the day they play each other live on TV with the world watching

FALLON SHERROCK insists she’s dreading the day that she and Scottish boyfriend Cameron Menzies battle it out on the oche with the world watching.

The 30-year-old rose to fame in 2019 when she became the first woman to beat a man at the PDC World Championships.

Both Sherrock and Ayrshire darts hero Menzies have qualified independently for Ally Pally again this year and it would be a matchup for the ages should the draw pair them together.

As she prepares to make her fifth appearance at the iconic tournament, Sherrock told Online Darts that she’s desperate to avoid that clash – even though she wouldn’t be able to stop herself celebrating if she threw a 180.

She said: “100 per cent.

“I mean, can you imagine the arguments afterwards? Regardless of who wins.

“Before and after, it would just be so nervy.

“I don’t think it would be a good game for anyone to watch because we’d both be quite nervy and stuff.

“I know everyone wants to see it, but there’d be a lot of nerves in that one.

“I don’t think it’s a great thing that everyone wants to watch it.

“Put me up against any other player, I’ll be fine.

“Obviously, I’m not going to tell you the conversations that we have, but I always back myself, and he always backs himself.

“Hopefully, we never have to see it on TV.

“I don’t mind it on a floor game, but hopefully not on TV. We do practise [together], and even then, it gets a bit nervy.

“Can you imagine it on TV? You would see all the emotions, and I think even if I hit a 180, I’d probably celebrate a little bit.”

Would you play mind games? “Yeah a little bit.”

Dutchman Vincent van der Voort is one man who reckons the matchup would be great theatre on the oche.

He said: “It would be really wonderful if boyfriend and girlfriend had to play each other at the World Championship.

“And not in the second round only, but right in the first round.

“It’s great because prior to that spicy encounter you live in the same house for two and a half weeks while you know you have to compete against each other.

“That’s still separate and awkward all the same. But I would find it the most fun scenario.

“There will always be extra tension on a match like this, because you have to play the person who has been with you all day.

“Then you hope for a loss for the other person, but you can get it yourself in this situation.”

Sherrock won her spot at Ally Pally with performances on the PDC Women‘s Series while Menzies, 35, qualified through the Pro Tour Order of Merit.

Menzies is in the form of his life but he too would dread taking on his other half.

He said: “We’ve spoken about this a few times and obviously a few of my mates have brought it up …. but I don’t think I would enjoy that game.”

Sherrock jokingly said she deserves a bit of the credit for Menzies’ upturn in form, saying: “I don’t know what I’ve done to him, I’ve created a monster, sorry guys!

“He’s playing absolutely phenomenal at the moment and I’ll just keep supporting him, and hopefully, he can just carry on.”
