Inside Valtteri Bottas’ wild three weeks after being dumped by F1 team from back garden Ironman to mad side quests

VALTTERI BOTTAS has not blown his engine out over the news he would not be racing in Formula One next season.

It was announced days after the Brazil Grand Prix that the Finn would not retain his seat with Sauber for 2025, with it instead going to 20-year-old F2 star Gabriel Bortoleto.

And days after the news, Bottas shared a video of him doing a staggering Ironman triathlon challenge in his own back garden.

However, it proved to be the tip of the iceberg for the 35-year-old as it gave way to a mad three-week break involving some crazy side quests.

Bottas documented his break on his Instagram page with a suitably titled series called “What’s next?”

Following the Ironman challenge, Bottas was seen grimacing in pain while getting a tattoo on his left thigh of the text “What’s next?”

After getting his tattoo, Bottas was seen in a video sharing a coffee with Tour de France winner Sir Mark Cavendish as both asked one another “What’s next?”

The next video in the series saw Bottas kitted out in cycling gear as he went “gravel riding in the wild west”, accompanied by Valkirias de Cine’s Wild West song in the background.

This was followed by a stunning switch to a sandy beach setting where Bottas then revealed he would be playing ultimate frisbee with Australia’s national team.

The video showed Bottas in action jumping and diving about as he tried to catch the frisbee.

Up next was a more low-key event by the former Mercedes driver’s standards, as he was seen in a cowboy hat drinking a beer before saying he was participating in a Sunday night pool tournament.

Another 180-degree twist to the series saw Bottas now wearing a thick coat as he got ready to go hiking.

While on the hike, Bottas came across a batch of bear poo, before he ended the video by bursting into a run.

The latest video in the series saw Bottas back in cycling gear.

But rather than cold weather or gravel riding, Bottas was now cycling in Death Valley.

Found in eastern California in the Mojave Desert, it is thought to be the hottest place in the world in the summer with the record temperature reaching a scorching 57°C.

Bottas has since arrived in the Las Vegas F1 paddock with his tattoo on show for all to see.

He has also been seen wearing a cyan-coloured top with black text on it reading “What’s next?”

F1 2025 grid

Here are the confirmed driver line ups for the F1 2025 season so far:

Red Bull: Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez

Ferrari: Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton

Mercedes: George Russell and Kimi Antonelli

McLaren: Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri

Aston Martin: Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll

Williams: Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz

Sauber: Nico Hulkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto

Alpine: Pierre Gasly and Jack Doohan

RB: Yuki Tsunoda and TBC

Haas: Ollie Bearman and Esteban Ocon

In terms of what’s next for his motorsport career, reports suggest Bottas is being considered as a Mercedes reserve driver for next season.

Speaking about his F1 exit, Bottas said: “Life goes on. There’s lots of exciting things ahead. And yeah, I’m fine with it.

“It’s a tricky sport. You know, I think I got into a bit of an unlucky situation, in terms of hanging on to the last seat on the grid. And when that doesn’t happen, then obviously you’re out for now.

“The closer we’re getting to that date, I did definitely figure out that there was other drivers as candidates as well. And of course, you start to hear rumours.

“So then in the end, I still thought it’s maybe 50-50 chance. And yeah, I got the call on the Monday. But yeah, at least I know now. I just need to figure out what’s next…

“The way my active F1 driving career ended for now, it wasn’t the best way that you can’t really decide yourself.

“I feel like still I have lots to give for the sport and I still love it. I love the racing against the best drivers in the world, in the best cars in the world. That’s what I love.

“So I’m just trying to figure out now what is the next move. So yeah, I don’t really have that much more. I’m taking it day by day. There’s some interesting stuff on the table and then we’ll see.”

However, he did not seem overly keen on the idea of switching to another motorsport, but said he was always up for a new challenge, like what he did with the Ironman challenge.

He added: “For me, at the moment, I feel like jumping into a new category comes quite quick.

“You know, we’re almost in December. So yeah, I think that would be more realistic that if I didn’t find a seat in F1 during ‘25 or for ‘26, then probably would be from ‘26.

“But it’s all these things that I need to kind of try and plan. But the picture is starting to form in my head what is the ideal situation. I’ve raced all my life, you know, since I was six, five, six years old and I still love it.

“So I’ll be always driving something. I just sometimes like to challenge myself. I just decided on the evening before that tomorrow I want to be an Ironman.

“And I just did it in a small pool and indoor bike and treadmill. I’d actually never done a marathon before, so now that’s done as well. So, yeah, things sometimes just happen.”

A-list celebrities exploring takeover of EFL clubs after watching Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s Wrexham success

A-LIST celebrities are set to follow in the footsteps of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney after their success with Wrexham, according to a football investment expert.

The Hollywood actors secured back-to-back promotions with the Red Dragons to return the club to the third tier for the first time in 15 years, and are on the right track to repeat that feat this season.

A figure like Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson could have a big impact on an English club[/caption]

The pair have acted as a catalyst for celebrity investment in English football, with the likes of Tom Brady, JJ Watt, Will Ferrell and golfers Jordan Spieth and Jordan Thomas all involved at various EFL clubs.

Many more high-profile celebrities are set to follow suit according to Adam Sommerfeld, whose work as an investment specialist involves connecting clubs with prospective celebrity investors.

He told SunSport: “There are some incredibly high profile celebrities that are looking, some of the time it’s with their agent, some of the time it’s with the direct celebrity, but there are certainly some incredibly high profile ones looking at the moment.

“Whether they find what they are looking for is another question. Celebrities certainly from the sporting world want to be seen to back a winner.

“If you back a team in the Premier League that then gets relegated three times in a row, you don’t want to be connected to that.

“It’s finding a club that could go on a journey but isn’t likely to plummet and negatively impact your brand.”

Reynolds and McElhenney are quite unique as they are majority owners of Wrexham, whereas the likes of Brady and Watt only own minor shares in Birmingham and Burnley respectively.

But they have already seen a return on their investment in terms of exposure, with Birmingham a regular pick for Sky Sports coverage – David Beckham even attended their match against Wrexham and sat alongside NFL legend Brady.

And it appears the trend of celeb and US involvement in English clubs is only set to rise, with rapper A$AP Rocky tipped to invest in Tranmere.

Sommerfeld continued: “Every team has at some point spoken in recent months to US investors. Most teams will listen and listen very seriously, as will most companies.

“For a celebrity it’s a win-win. Ultimately you want to make sure you’re not backing the wrong horse that could have multiple relegations, goes out of business, but that’s very rare.

“Otherwise it’s win-win for the celeb because they get to promote their personal brand to that team, they will gain Instagram followers, social media followers, which can be directly related to revenue for them.

“There is the fun element, there is the partnership element of other doors that will open up in terms of co-valuing opportunities for both sides.

“It’s sort of like how can The Rock’s followers go and follow Watford for example, and now that celebrity is being followed by Watford fans and now they might go and watch his latest film because of the affinity to Watford.

“And rarely do celebrities put big capital in, most of it will be brand equity they will be putting in. So their name is their investment, it’s not like they have to put in a huge amount of capital.”

The happy couple, who are already parents to one-year-old Blake, have been keeping fans up to date on their lives with two little ones.

Brian revealed it was a “big day” in their house yesterday as Blu has started weaning.

The 46-year-old shared photos of their five-month-old munching on some baby porridge over on Instagram.

Blu looked adorable as she sat on her high-chair wearing a pink cardigan and grey bib with the food on her face.

Brian captioned his post: “Today was a big day here in the Dowling Gourounlian household as our baby girl Blu went on the spoon for the very first time.

“It was a tremendous success and actually wasn’t a messy experience at all.

“Our baby is five months old on Saturday, she is pure joy and love.”

The dad-of-two’s friends and fans all loved the sweet snaps and raced to the comment section with compliments.

Brian’s hubby Arthur said: “Oh, she loved her baby porridge this morning, that’s for sure.”

Radio star Blathnaid Treacy wrote: “She is just the cutest little thing!”

Lynn commented: “A real life doll.”

Caroline added: “Blu is just so beautiful. Like her big sister Blake.”

Arthur also got emotional last week when he got Blu’s “big girl” seat ready, as she had out-grown her baby one.

The celebrity choreographer recorded Blu looking very content while sitting in her new yellow bouncer.

‘TIME FLIES’

Arthur shared the clip on Instagram and reflected on how quickly the time has gone.

The dad-of-two said: “Honestly, I could cry. Where has the time gone? One moment she was a newborn in our arms, and now here she is, sitting proudly in her big-girl chair.

“It feels like just yesterday she arrived, and now she’s already living her best little life in her adorable safari-themed seat. I’m not ready for this!”

Arthur further discussed his emotions on his story saying: “It’s like deja vu. That’s it – time flies.

“She’s growing so fast. Not long ago I was doing this for Blake and now for Blu. Oh my goodness gracious.

“She’s going to be five months in a couple of days, this is crazy.”

Huge rule change for dog walkers in parks could see thousands of pet owners BANNED – are you one of them?

THOUSANDS of dog owners could soon be banned from walking their pooches in public parks following a major rule change.

Locals in Tower Hamlets fear they won’t be able to take man’s best friend off the lead following the council’s “dog Asbos” plan.

Enraged residents are anxiously waiting to see just how Tower Hamlets council will enforce its new dog walking rules[/caption]

The proposal, if passed, would see dogs banned from “all gated play parks and sports areas” and kept on leads in “all public spaces” except specific, yet-to-be defined areas, The Telegraph reported.

The plans would also prohibit dog owners from walking more than four pooches at the same time.

The borough’s council stood by the proposal – pointing to a spike in violent dog attacks to justify the move.

But locals have pushed back, accusing the council of not being clear in explaining how the regulations will be enforced.

They added that slapping pet owners with “dog Asbos” using a public spaces protection order (PSPO) will make popular dog-walking spaces such as Victoria Park a no-go area for the affected locals.

Olympic bronze medalist Scarlett Mew Jensen slammed the proposal, claiming the plans would make it impossible for her and her 2 year old Labrador to run freely.

“If she’s not able to get off the lead, she’s not able to be a dog,” Scarlett fumed.

“That adjustment would be really hard. She has to run from time to time or she’s not herself.”

Fellow resident Ian Joliet, who regularly walks his golden retriever in Victoria Park, also hit out at the council’s move.

“I understand that it has to be a park for everybody, and that means people that don’t like dogs, but it also has to be a park for everybody, including those that like dogs – and dogs, too, who need the exercise,” he told The Times.

The proposals would include “ensuring dogs are on leads in all public spaces, banning dogs from certain spaces such as gated play parks and sports areas and [imposing] limits to the the number of dogs one person can walk at a time”, the council said.

Under the PSPO, dogs would have to be kept on leads in car parks, on roads and in communal areas, with Fixed Penalty Notices of up to £1,000 for breaches of the orders.

During its consultation, which closed earlier this month, Tower Hamlets stated: “The decision to consult on the introduction of a PSPO in Tower Hamlets is in response to a number of enquiries regarding the policy for dangerous dogs in the borough and following a recent spate of high-profile incidents involving out-of-control nuisance dogs and their owners.

“Many residents are nervous about the presence of large and intimidating-looking dogs in the borough’s parks and green spaces.”

The mayor of Tower Hamlets, Luftur Rahman, defended the application which he feels will “protect the people of this borough”.

If she’s not able to get off the lead, she’s not able to be a dog.

Scarlett Mew JensenLocal and Olympic bronze medalist

He said: “We’re not saying we’re going to ban dog ownership, all we’re saying is be responsible, it’s a responsibility.

“If you own a dog or you handle a dog, there are certain responsibilities you should have as an individual towards others, humans, people and property, and we’re here to protect the people of this borough.”

Meanwhile, dog walkers have been warned of the dangerous item that could skewer their pet and leave them in excruciating pain.

Cheryl Wild has issued the advice after her three-year-old Bedlington Terrier was impaled by the object and began to yelp in distress.

Betty was playing on Penmaenmawr beach in Conway, Wales, until disaster struck and she was left clawing at her face after being pierced by a fishing hook on Sunday 10 November.

Her owner was stunned after realising what had impaled her pet’s nose, especially after wire cutters were required to cut the metal off.

She told WalesOnline: “As I have a bad knee, I sat on a rock and watched them play.

“Betty began shaking her head frantically. At first, I didn’t think much of it as she often picks up seaweed and throws it around. But then she began yelping in pain.

“If I tried to pull them out, it would have ripped her nose to pieces but Betty was really distressed and was trying to knock out the hooks with her paws, causing the wound to bleed even more. I was worried she was going to rip them out and cause more damage – it was really traumatic for everyone there.”

Four dog laws every dog owner should know

  1. Your dog must be microchipped

Since 6 April 2016, all dogs in England, Scotland and Wales must be microchipped by the time they are eight weeks old. A microchip is a chip that’s about the size of a grain of rice that contains a unique 15-digit code that matches up to your dog’s details.

  1. You must pick up your dog’s mess

In most public areas, you will be required by law to pick up your dog’s poo, and you could even be fined if you fail to do so. There are certain areas, like heathland, woodland and fields used for agriculture, where you are not legally required to clean up after your dog.

It’s a good idea to know the rules of your local council, and always check the laws around anywhere you might be visiting with your pooch.

  1. You must make sure your dog doesn’t bark too much

Our dogs communicate with their mouths, through barks, yelps, whimpers, growls, groans or even sighs. All dogs bark (unless you have a Basenji) but if it’s excessive and considered a noise nuisance, your neighbours can complain to your local council or landlord.

If your dog is barking a lot while you’re out of the house, they might be distressed or anxious, but there are some easy ways that you can help ease their separation anxiety.

  1. Your dog must not worry livestock

If you’re walking your dog in the countryside, down a footpath through a farmer’s field or on agricultural land, your dog must not chase or attack any livestock.

If your dog worries livestock or is not on a lead around sheep, then you could be fined and forced to pay compensation.
