Scottish Premiership club announce major partnership with one of the biggest teams in MEXICO

A SCOTTISH PREMIERSHIP club have revealed a brand new strategic partnership with a side from MEXICO.

And it’s a club with a major link with one of their top stars.

Dundee have confirmed they’ve linked-up with CF Monterrey, one of the top clubs in the Mexican game.

The Dark Blues have unveiled the partnership that they say will see the clubs work together on player development and best sports practices.

Dundee also say the agreement could present a ‘pathway to European football’ for Monterrery’s top young talent.

It was just last summer when Dundee dipped into the Mexican market to land two first team players.

While it didn’t really work out for Diego Pineda, defender Antonio Portales has become a favourite at Dens’ Park.

His form has seen him tipped for a call-up to the Mexico national team.

Portales, 28, joined Dundee from Atlante but had previously spent a significant chunk of his career with Monterrey.

The centre-back was a product of the club’s youth system and broke into the first team during the 2014/15 campaign.

Monterrey youth director Nicolas Martellotto highlighted Portales as he explained how the partnership could benefit both clubs.

He said: “We are very excited about this agreement with Dundee FC, as it represents a great opportunity for players from our youth academy to migrate to Europe and continue their development outside of Mexico.

“Portales was a player who lived his process in the club’s youth academy since he was 13 years old.

“We are looking for more players to follow in his footsteps and continue their career with Dundee FC, in such a competitive ecosystem as the Scottish Premiership.”

Monterrey are a club with a rich history in Mexican football.

Formed in 1945, they play in front of more than 53,000 fans at the plush Estadio BBVA.

They’re currently managed by former Argentina and Manchester City star Martin Demichelis.

They’ve won five Mexican league titles, most recently winning the Apertura in 2019.

Monterrey have also won the CONCACAF Champions Cup – North America’s equivalent of the Champions League – on five occasions.

It’s another major partnership for Dundee, who entered into a similar agreement with English side Burnley last year.

Dundee chairman Tim Keyes said: “We are extremely excited for the partnership between Dundee FC and CF Monterrey.

“Monterrey is one of the premier teams in Liga MX with an abundance of talented players and a first-class management team.

“Despite being on different continents, the culture and approach to developing young talent is very similar between the two clubs. We look forward to this agreement providing great benefits to both clubs over the coming years.”

Managing Director John Nelms added: “Last month myself and Tim went out to Mexico to finalise the deal and we saw for ourselves how big a club Rayados are in Mexico.

“They have a fantastic youth set-up with over 15,000 individuals in their youth academies, spanning across multiple countries, from age four all the way up to the first team. Both clubs will benefit from this relationship as we share skills and knowledge whilst developing young, talented footballers who can make it into the first team and play at the highest possible level.”

Renaat Vandepapeliere… R&S Records’ co-founder continues to rock and shape electronic music after 42 years

As we prepare to sit down with Renaat when we meet up with him in Belgium next month for an in-depth interview, which we will publish on these pages in due course, we asked him to talk us through ten big contemporary tracks from R&S Records to whet our appetites for the time being!

Listen to the music Renaat selected for us and read what he had to say about the tracks below.

Mikahl Anthony – Poetic R&B From St. Louis

So around 2013/2014, I was sent an album “ Them People “ curated by Mikhal from a friend of mine and within two weeks you could download it but any information on him was gone, there was no information.

It took me five years of looking non-stop every day to find him. Everyone was calling out in the web saying who the f**k is this guy? And then finally I found him and the next day I signed him while he was working on his album.

During Corona, it was a wonderful time for me, and I was rethinking myself and all the things I’ve done in the past, all the hundreds of labels I’ve worked for, but you can’t relive the past and I cannot always do the same things because my interest in music is too big, so I had to think about why I started and where am I going?

And you know, I’m an old guy. So, I grew up with Marvin Gaye, I grew up with James Brown, I grew up with Jimi Hendrix, I grew up with everything, with new wave, with punk.

There’s so much music that kids don’t even know. Not that I know everything that’s out, of course, there’s brilliant music out there, but working on this album is something I wanted to do because it has this sort of Marvin Gaye vibe and it’s something I recognise from my past.

On top of that, it’s a very relevant album. It’s a very poetic album, and he’s touching lyric-wise some issues here, it is a fantastic album.

I do miss Music with a message and this is a relevant album and I’m so proud I have released this, he’s a filmmaker and it’s one of my crown jewels.

I have always tried to make R&S a label where the music and I have to be very real, to myself and let my heart speak, and if you don’t like it or it’s not your thing I respect that.

Fresh new Hip Hop from our youngster from Texas… Tainted Tazz – Hit List

So again, this song is a statement. It shows we’re about everything, don’t put me in a box because I will tear the box apart and fight as long as I can. It shows we’re not part of the flock and that this is not about being arrogant, it’s about passion.

So, one morning, about two years ago, I received a link from this young lady. She was 21 when she made it, and now she’s 23, and when I heard it I thought f**king hell, this is raw, this is Public Enemy raw and we signed her.

She’s sort of Little Sims in a way but from America and much younger. Also, as a lyricist, she’s talking wild, and one thing she said to me was I’m not competing with female rappers; I want to compete with the boys, and I thought, let’s rock it, let’s go.

And that’s all that I needed to pull me over, and I’ll say okay, fine, If you want a challenge and a fight, I’m in. It’s that attitude of people that challenge themselves in a very competitive world and the rawness, which I do miss in a lot of music and everybody is so f**king scared to play it but the place will rock.

Loxy & Ink ( D&B )

I’ve always been a fan of Loxy and I’ve put the track because I think it’s such a beautiful, impactful drum and bass track. It’s just wonderful. Everything is right. it has this beautiful voice and opening and it goes and it’s lovely and then it goes into, to, to, to this dark jazzy rhythm at the end, it’s, it’s fucking insane.

And it’s also a nice story. You know, they had sent me some hip hop tracks where we released with great success. And I said, guys, I know, you know, for drum and bass, but let’s start with fucking hip hop, you know, your, your fan base and community will, will, will be nuts. They will be saying, well, what’s going on with him? And they said, no, no, no. I said, trust me. Let’s do it. Um, but that’s a part of the EP So I wanted to make, I wanted to add something accessible because I love that track so much is wow. What a track. Oh, what a f**king track!

Chizawa Q & Masaki Sakamoto – Beluga

I think the track is about a feeling and not worrying too much about what everyone has to say. Again, to bring him up, it reminds me of Quincy Jones, and I grew up with this guy. The arrangements, its feeling, its sound, It’s so complicated, it’s not pushing your Ableton with preset sounds and doing the same as everything else. I want to feel a heart in music, I want to feel the honesty. It’s a great track, but there is some organic musicality coming in, something jazzy.

When making the track, we called in a jazz pianist I know. Something I really like is calling and combining my musician friends from all over the world, whether it be bass players or drummers, to try to bring that organic thing back, If your heart is open, it works!

Lenny DIno

Dino Lenni is a very beautiful guy, that’s why I signed him, he’s such a beautiful heart. He was sending me the demo, and I am very involved in pushing the guys to places where they wouldn’t even think to go which for them is insane but it works. He’s a good DJ and it’s a fun and quality track again. It’s that relentless groove that just gives and gives, doesn’t it? That’s Lenny.

Andert Tysma – Holland – for fans of Tangerine Dream & Modern Neo Classic

Ander and Tisma Holland are very beautiful.

He’s a doctor, a real doctor who still practices and as a hobby he toured with a lot of Dutch bands as a bass player, even on big stages at festivals.

He wanted to do his own thing, and when he sent it to me, it was so pure, neoclassic, Tangerine Dream-ish quality, period. Again, I grew up with Tangerine Dreams, Klaus Schulze and all those guys, so for me, it’s a reflection, but it’s still fresh, and I don’t hear much music like this often.

Ada Kaleh – Unravelling featuring Eric Leeds – Sampling Fela Kutti

Man, man, man. What a story. So He sends me the track and he samples Fela Kuti and I mean, I played Fela Kuti so much when I was young.

It’s unreal. You know, he and Bob Marley are some of my big big heroes. So I told him, listen, dude, this is going to be totally impossible to get the green card on the sample but let me try.

We cleared the whole thing in one day, and I couldn’t believe it, I had a Fela f**cking Kuti complete song on R&S, my hero. I couldn’t believe it. And then I went to Eric Leeds, sax player for Prince and sent him the track to ask if he liked it and if he could put play in the Track and he said yes.

And then two days we had it, I was like, Holy s**t! This is unreal, This is happening. It is just a magical thing that happened,

I told Ada it would never be possible and then we had it . Twenty-four hours later, we had the track, and I looked at Sabine and thought this was not happening, this could not be real. I’m so proud of it

Vromm – Horizon – Future electronics

He is next level, man. It’s bold new electronic music, it’s him and nobody else is going to do the same thing that he does.

It starts weird, but you know, it’s very playable if you have balls, and it goes into this very beautiful melody, which really opens the track into a completely different dimension. And this is what I want to hear, a range. Some of the stuff I hear I think I could do – it may sound arrogant, but this I cannot do, you have to be on something or whatever!!

This song is what I mean when I say this is what I want to do; this is what I want to have people make for R&S.

Quicche – White Teeth… for fans of Bon Iver – from Germany

David is a young guy, a very beautiful guy. He also comes from sort of a rock folk album in Germany, touring a little bit and he asked me if I was interested (in working with him) and I said of course I’m interested.

He’s in the same marketplace as Bon Iver, James Blake and all that. But what an album, what a debut album, and he looks good! He looks like Jim Morrison, he had this big hair and is a very beautiful guy. And in the video, he shaves it off.

I think there is a great future for this guy.

Viclan – pure rhythm power – Future dance electronics – the way I like to BE -not iPhone Dance music 🙂

Again, pure left-field electronics in its purest form. That groove and the whole thing, for me, is just f**king wicked.

Sometimes you receive music, you have to pick one track, and you have to go back to the drawing board – you have to think, is this it, is there a career in it? I have no idea if there will be, but sometimes, you have to put it out because the song is so good it just has to come out… And this track has to come out, period. It has pure rhythm power, it’s headed towards the future of dance electronics – the way I like to be, it’s not iPhone dance music.

Paul White – Glory’s in story’s – romantic

I’ve always been a big, big fan of Paul White; he plays guitar, drums, bass, and everything, he is multi-instrumental.

So he sent me the album and it’s sort of pop, beautiful, romantic, deep.

As a person, he is a very soft, emotional, deep guy and you can hear that in his music. Again, that album is so f**king beautiful.

I’d also seen him live with his previous album many, many years ago and it’s wicked, it’s all there and it’s all correct in modern contemporary music.

Feiertag – UK Bass from Holland

Feiertag was a drummer who sent me some tracks. One of the things we’ve always tried to champion is that we work with beginners, we’ve not signed names to sign names, it has always been new kids to give a platform.

It’s a wicked track. It’s a relevant track in today’s music and I think it’s perfect.

Gym owner who turned down €15k compo flew to Rome and posed in tiny sauna after ‘flight fear and small spaces’ claim

A MAN who feared he’d never be able to fly again after being trapped in a lift was confronted with pics of himself in Rome following the incident.

Gym owner Robert Smith, 39, was seeking compo at the Circuit Civil Court.

Judge Geoffrey Shannon, who heard how the personal trainer had turned down a €15,000 offer to settle his personal injuries claim, awarded the 39-year-old little more than half that amount.

Smith, of Johnstown Place, Johnstown Road, Cabinteely, Dublin, claimed he suffered from claustrophobia following the incident in June 2021, could no longer tolerate confined spaces and had feared he would never be able to fly again.

Making the award and granting Smith limited District Court costs, Judge Shannon said the court had to take into consideration photographic evidence provided by barrister Conor Duff, counsel for defendant Infinity Lifts, Ennis, Co Clare.

The photographs showed Smith throwing a muscular pose in an enclosed one-person sauna following the incident, and also in Rome where he had flown to propose to his partner in front of the Trevi Fountain.

Mr Duff, who appeared with Connolly O’Neill Solicitors for Infinity Lifts, told Judge Shannon that Smith, after a return flight from Rome had, only a few days later failed to tell a doctor, at a medical consultation, about his flying activities.

Judge Shannon said the defendant had conceded that Smith had been trapped in a lift at his apartment block residence until a neighbour had heard his cries for help and had called the emergency services.

The court was being asked to assess damages after Infinity Lifts had conceded fault in the case and Judge Shannon said Smith, whom he found to be a genuine witness, had complained of nightmares and panic attacks.

The judge said the court had difficulty in reconciling the photographic evidence of Smith on holiday and in the confined space of a one-person sauna with his issue of claustrophobia.

Mr Duff had asked the judge not to award Smith any damages or a very small amount.

Rejecting a suggestion by Smith’s barrister that damages should range from between €15,000 and €40,000, Judge Shannon said that under the compensatory guidelines he had to consider fairness and proportionality and measured damages at €8,250.

He also granted Smith his claim for expenses of €2,394.70, bringing the total award to €10,644.70.

Mr Duff told the court that Smith’s legal team had been written to on September 25, 2024, offering their client a settlement of €15,000.

This had been declined, and he sought the judge’s award of District Court costs to be confined up to the date of the settlement offer which Judge Shannon agreed with.

Guy Ritchie’s big-budget TV set robbed by daring thieves who stole camera equipment

a man in a brown jacket stands in front of a body of water

GUY RITCHIE rewound 24 years to a real-life Snatch this week after thieves targeted his new big-budget set.

The British director was working in London on his Paramount+ project The Associate, starring Tom Hardy, Helen Mirren and Pierce Brosnan.

Insiders told me all hell broke out on the Isle of Dogs when two men in a Toyota Prius swooped after spotting camera equipment in the street.

My mole explained: “Guy had shut roads for the shoot and the production was teeming with security and crew.

“Out of nowhere, two blokes arrived in a Prius and started asking for directions.

“Their questions distracted people and at that moment, the other bloke jumped out and grabbed a bag of camera equipment that was on the side of the road.

“He jumped back in the car and they sped off. The security guards started going bananas because they’d basically been robbed in broad daylight.

“It was pretty embarrassing and a costly mistake. The kit on those films isn’t cheap.”

Plans for Guy’s new show were first revealed this year, with the Lock Stock director signing up Tom, Helen and Pierce to star in it.

The series will focus on a set of elite London “fixers”, basically gangsters, and wheeler-dealer businesses they run.

Guy, who directed the 2000 crime comedy Snatch, will be counting on the show to be a hit — and given the success of his Netflix series The Gentlemen, I’ve got high hopes.

The series was watched more than 45million times in the first month and now a second season is in the works, with characters Eddie Horniman and Susie Glass getting another run out.

As long as Guy tightens up his security from now on, hopefully the dramas will only be on screen.

HAILEY BIEBER lounges around for a photoshoot as she celebrates her first birthday since becoming a mum.

She turns 28 today and posed in a series of pictures for her cosmetics brand Rhode Skin.

Hailey, who had son Jack Blues with husband Justin Bieber at the end of August, said: “I love launching something special at Rhode every year for my birthday.”

The model, who did her make-up while lying on the sofa in her pants in one of the pictures, has had a whole week of birthday treats already.

At the weekend she went to see Sabrina Carpenter in concert and then on Wednesday went out for dinner with one of her mates.

Many happy returns, Hailey.

Cher reveals how Francis Ford Coppola got in touch about doing a movie the pair discussed 20 years ago[/caption]

SHE might be two years away from 80, but Cher is already lining up her next film role.

The singer, who last appeared in 2018’s Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, made the revelation during a talk in New York while promoting her new memoir.

She said: “Francis Ford Coppola sent me an email the other day.

“He wants us to do a movie that we talked about 20 years ago. He got me into movies. He once said to me when I was at Vegas, ‘Why are you not doing movies?’.

“Singing and dancing is like having a party at someone’s house. Acting is like having a party at your house and one is more fun.”

But Francis needs to get in fast, as Oscar-winner Cher is already batting off deals to turn her two-part memoir – the first of which came out this week – into a biopic.

She added: “It could make a good movie. It could be like an eight or nine-parter.

“That is true. I have not read the book as I wrote it. I thought, ‘Well, if I wrote it, I don’t have to read it’.

“I have another book that is coming out next Christmas. I guess I will read it when I am old.”

I hope I have this attitude when I’m 78.

Despite being nominated for New Artist and Single of the Year, Shaboozey was beaten on both fronts.

At least he had an excuse to wear the suit.

Singer James Arthur has written a song named after ADHD[/caption]

JAMES ARTHUR revealed he has ADHD – and has written a song named after the disorder which affects attention span and self-control.

The singer, below, said of the tune, out today: “It is about being loved in the way you want to be loved.

“When you experience that, it’s something truly special, especially if you tend to be self-deprecating or have trouble receiving love due to issues or conditions that others might not understand.

ADHD is one of those conditions – but when someone accepts you for all your flaws, it can feel like your dreams are a reality.”

Other new releases include Tiny Habit’s Lizzy McAlpine collaboration For Sale Sign, Ashaine White’s I Sing To Myself and Rose’s Number One Girl.

South London choir Libera have released their album Dream and will go up against new records from Joan Armatrading and Michael Kiwunaka.

Poppy Ajudha is keen to link up with Raye in the studio[/caption]

POPPY AJUDHA hit it off with Raye years before they became famous – and the singer-songwriter is now keen to link up in the studio.

She has known the six-time Brits winner for years and reckons her fellow soul performer is an inspiration.

Poppy, whose eponymous second album, is out today, said in an exclusive chat: “I’ve known Raye for a long time. She’s become so huge as an artist. She’s so incredible. I’ve never written with her but would love to.

“Raye would be a huge inspiration for the way she does her live show, and to play with orchestras.”

She added: “I think I’ve gained so many skills making this album. Now I want to take those skills and make something even bigger and better.”

She said the album is “uplifting” and the result of her being a “meticulous control freak”. But it was clearly enjoyable because she is raring to make more music.

Poppy explained: “Being in the studio is my favourite part of being an artist. I’m really missing it at the moment. I’m planning to go to LA in January to write my next album.

“Songwriting is what makes me feel like a human with purpose in the world.”

Addison: Brit role a no go

MUSICIAN and TikTok star Addison Rae has ruled herself out of playing Britney Spears in the singer’s biopic – and says others should avoid it too.

She told iHeartRadio: “I honestly don’t think anyone deserves to play her. She’s such an enigma and icon.

“I don’t even think it’s right to compare me to her at all.

“I support anything and everything Britney Spears ever wants to do in her life and career, and I think she’ll have the best opinion on who she thinks that should be.”

DANCE duo Sigma will headline the Casa Bacardi night at Boxpark Croydon, tomorrow.

The South London venue is being transformed into a club space with a huge lighting rig.

Meanwhile, Boxpark Wembley in North West London will host A Very Noughties Christmas on December 14 featuring Lemar, Blazin’ Squad, Big Brovaz and Booty Luv.

Google employee reveals Android ‘trick’ to unlock ‘magic’ time-saving perks – including hack to dress better

A GOOGLE employee is urging Android phone owners to try a genius feature – and says you’ll want to try a mind “trick” to get the most out of it.

The Google insider told The Sun how he can’t imagine not using the clever tech anymore.

Google’s Gemini Live lets you have natural humanlike conversations with an AI helper

The Sun spoke to Google exec Serge LaChapelle about the AI-powered assistant[/caption]

It’s called Gemini Live, an upgraded version of Google’s virtual assistant.

The artificial intelligence helper uses your microphone and speakers, letting you have “natural, free-flowing conversation”.

And you can even interrupt what Gemini is saying – or change your mind mid-sentence.

The Sun spoke to senior Google exec Serge LaChapelle, who said you could even use it to beat the ‘Sunday Scaries’ – the weekend anxiety of going to work on Monday.

“I’ll say something like: I get the fear on Sunday evening. I get stressed and overwhelmed by thinking of the week ahead – and I’d love to learn how to relax or even do breathing exercise,” Serge said.

He demoed the feature to The Sun, and showed how Gemini Live would then guide you through breathing exercises to calm down.

And he was also able to butt in halfway through and ask for more detail.

But Google says it can be used for a lot more than just dealing with work stress.

You can brainstorm thoughts out loud, ask for gift ideas, plan events, or even make business plans, according to the search engine giant.

Students can use it to revise and even quiz themselves.

And you could even use it to rehearse for important moments – like if you’re giving a public speech, or getting ready for a job interview.

In fact, you can even ask it to help you get dressed.

“I was able to interrupt it. I was able to get a better answer. I was able to go deeper into it,” Serge told us.

“So I find it’s quite a fascinating way to interact with these AI agents.

“And one of the fascinating things is that you can also incorporate things from the real world into it.

“So for example: “I’ve got a big presentation next week, and I want to look young but confident. Could you help me build an outfit that doesn’t include anything of the colour green?”

“That’s one of the unique things with Gemini – that it can go and connect to the search engine.

“And it’s able to go get answers from real life.”

Screenshot
You can chat to Gemini Live through the regular Gemini app on your Android phone
Google

Serge said that this is one of the biggest breakthroughs for Gemini Live versus older styles of AI.

If you’d ever used an early smart speaker, you probably experienced the regular difficulty of getting it to do what you wanted.

Serge, a director of product management at Google, even admitted it was a problem with the company’s own early efforts.

“I think that we’re just starting to scratch the surface,” he said.

“I find with the normal assistants, like the Google Assistant or Alexa and those systems, it was quite frustrating.

“Because sometimes if you misspoke a little bit or you tripped up in your command, it would just screw everything up.

“And that made me a little bit more hesitant to use those interfaces.

“Now with this one – where you can interrupt – you can rephrase your sentence mid-sentence as you’re going.

These phones have gotten maybe too good, right? And we need to sort of wrangle them back in.

Serge LaChapelleGoogle

“It gets that. It works with you. And it won’t just latch on to the thing you might have misspoke.”

The problem, Serge admits, is getting people into the habit of actually using it.

He says that one of the problems is that people see using AI as a form of cheating.

Serge explained: “It’s almost a little bit like the calculator, right?

“When the calculator first appeared, proper people did not use a calculator, right?

“And it was kind of looked down upon – like ‘I don’t need this to get my work done’.

“But now, this is maybe the calculator or the search engine of this generation.”

The other difficulty is that people don’t know what they don’t know.

And so he thinks it’s important to use a mental “trick” of forcing yourself to use it – to break out of normal habits.

That way, you’ll be able to find ways that Google’s AI helper can assist you, that you might have otherwise missed.

“I don’t see myself being able to go back to two years ago where this wasn’t possible,” Serge told The Sun.

“I save a lot of time: I’m not saying I’m saving dozens of hours, but every day, there are small magic moments.

“The trick is how. I’ve had to train myself to make those moments happen.

“We all have to force ourselves a little bit, because it’s easier to just go on with life like it’s always been than to try something new.

“I think Gemini Live is a great way to get people to start using this a little bit every day.”

If you don’t like chatting out loud, that’s not a big problem either.

The Gemini app on your Android phone works using regular text input – while the Gemini Live feature handles voice.

And for some tasks, the regular Gemini system might actually be more useful.

“With Gemini Live, it really right now is about conversations and asking it about the world around us,” Serge said.

“With the Gemini app proper, it can go and help you with your calendar, it can go help you find information much more quickly.

“If you send it a YouTube window, it has such a big context window and can put an hour’s video in its memory.

“And you can go ask it not just about the transcript, but about things happening – like physical things happening – in the video.

“One of the use-cases I never thought of: one of my colleagues here is blind. And he says: yeah, now I can understand what’s going on in the YouTube video.”

It might sound like it’s all a lot of tech – at a time when it feels like switching off has never been more important.

But Serge thinks that chatting to voice helpers is a great way to break free from tech.

By having more humanlike conversations with our gadgets, it can stop us from being stuck staring at screens all day.

“We get so many texts every day, so many interruptions, so many notifications. So many things happening: emails, calendar invites, files being shared with us.

“And having a tool like this tries to help us focus on what’s important.

“These phones have gotten maybe too good, right? And we need to sort of wrangle them back in.”

He added: “I think Gemini Live is one of the best examples of how this can become personal again – and where one of the trajectories for these kinds of tools is going to take us.”
