6 days agoLatest NewsComments Off on Police accused of wasting time by probing ‘hate’ crimes including ‘rough’ haircut and person being called ‘Rottweiler’
A COMPLAINT about a “rough” haircut was logged as a “hate” incident by cops.
In the barmy case, the upset punter blamed an argument about Ukraine for a bad trim.
Police have probed ‘hate’ complaints including one about a dodgy haircut[/caption]
Other so-called non-crime hate incidents logged by police include a German woman upset about being likened to a rottweiler.
It comes as the cash-strapped Met faces axing 2,000 cops who could catch real criminals, and only opening stations from 9am-5pm.
Last night Essex Police dropped a hate probe into journalist Allison Pearson over a year-old post — but only after putting her through 12 days of anguish.
Meanwhile, a customer contacted cops to say his barber was “aggressive and rough” because he spoke Russian.
Similar bizarre cases saw officers called over a neighbour in a hedge dispute who said it was homophobic to brand him “Leonard”.
As Britain’s biggest police force faces axing 2,000 cops, Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp said: “The police should not waste any valuable time on incidents like this.
“There is plenty of real crime they should be preventing and solving.
Aggressive haircut is not a police matter
Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp
“An aggressively-administered haircut is not a police matter.
“The police should only spend time investigating or recording actual criminal allegations or incidents where there is a real and imminent risk of criminality subsequently occurring.
“The Government needs to urgently update the guidance to ensure this is the case.
“This nonsense undermines confidence in policing.”
These are cases where no criminal offence has been committed, but the person reporting an incident feels it was motivated by hostility or prejudice.
The Lithuanian haircut “victim” claimed he was targeted because he spoke Russian.
A City of London Police log of the incident, seen by The Sun, said: “Barber asked him about the present situation in Ukraine, victim stated that all conversations with the barber were fine, but he stated that the barber was aggressive and rough whilst he was cutting his hair.
“The victim believes this was because he spoke Russian and is a hate incident.”
Similar bizarre cases saw officers called to a woman offended by being compared to a rottweiler[/caption]
Ex-Met detective Peter Bleksley said: “This is ridiculous and shows how disconnected police are from what the public want.
“No wonder there is a crimewave in this country. The guidelines suggest you should only intervene in cases like this where there is fear of escalation — who ever had a fear of escalation after a bad haircut?!”
It was unclear if City of London Police spoke to the hairdresser.
A force spokesman said: “The report was made online and later withdrawn.”
Essex Police logged 96 NCHIs in a year, including one where the “suspect has told two men to stop kissing”.
Wiltshire cops investigated an incident where a person in the street said others were mocking the length of their hair.
The rottweiler “racial abuse” complaint was made to Cambridgeshire Police from a woman in a parking dispute with a neighbour.
A person in South Yorkshire said they were the victim of homophobic abuse in a row over a privet hedge when a neighbour called him a “Leonard”.

In West Yorkshire cops recorded a case where a person with Blue Badge disabled parking claimed Facebook posts referred to her being physically active.
In 2021, a man was investigated for “racial hatred” for whistling the Bob the Builder tune at his neighbour.
Officers in Bedfordshire recorded it as an NCHI, which can remain on file for six years and, in some cases, be disclosed to a prospective employer.
Another barmy case saw a swimming teacher in West Yorkshire probed after a mother said her son had been allowed to bang his head against the side of the pool “due to his ethnicity”.
Retired Sussex Det Chief Supt Kevin Moore told The Sun: “It is no good police complaining they have insufficient resources when they are wasting valuable time recording, then potentially investigating, such ridiculous matters.
“It is high time His Majesty’s Inspectorate stepped in to stop the recording of non-crime hate incidents. Either a matter is a crime or it is not. If it isn’t then police should not be involved.”
Reform MP Lee Anderson added: “Our police have lost control of our streets, and now their bosses have lost control of their minds.
“Police should be investigating proper crimes not people who have hurt someone’s feelings. I long for the days when we had respect for our boys in blue.”
'2,000 officers axe'
Exclusive By Mike Sullivan
BRITAIN’S biggest police force is set to lose 2,000 officers as a result of swingeing budget cuts.
And 400 civilian staff jobs could go as the Met slashes £450million from annual finances.
Some London police stations will reduce opening hours to the public from 9am to 5pm.
The 12.8 per cent reduction from this year’s £3.5billion budget is worse than “eye-watering” cuts feared by Met boss Sir Mark Rowley.
Figures for the new budget are due to be announced at 11pm tonight by the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime, alongside some of the tough measures that must be taken.
Matt Cane, of the Police Federation, warned: “As we have said time and again, cuts have consequences. These will clearly have a significant impact on the Met’s ability to police London.”
And retired Met Chief Supt Simon Ovens warned the cuts could mean the final straw for officers considering other careers.
The Met is already projected to be down to 32,750 officers by March from its operating strength of 35,415.
The loss of an additional 2,000 cops during the incoming financial year from April would put the force back to 2013 levels.
Sir Mark said last week he was “deeply troubled” by talks over the annual settlement.
He said the capital’s spending on policing per head of population was already lower than cities such as New York and Sydney.
This week Home Secretary Yvette Cooper promised a crackdown on shoplifting, phone theft and anti-social behaviour.
She pledged £500million for more cops, though did not specify if the figure included inflation rises.
The Met said: “We maintain a productive dialogue with the Mayor and Home Office. No final decisions have been made.”
6 days agoLatest NewsComments Off on I’m a mum & my family were duped into buying a rat infested home – you wouldn’t know but these are the tell-tale signs
A PREGNANT mum has revealed how she was left devastated after her family was duped into buying a rat-infested home.
Sarah Arthurwears even explained that she had an extensive survey carried out which didn’t reveal the pests were in the home.
They discovered dead rats in their home[/caption]
Sarah first began noticing bad smells around her home[/caption]
Sarah started looking at houses when she and her partner were planning to have a third child and came across one that seemed suitable.
She realised it needed some work, but “nothing urgent,” and the pair thought the house was habitable since someone was living there at the time.
Taking to her TikTok and blog pages, Sarah has now shared her story to urge others to be more vigilant when buying a property.
The mum revealed that it was a deceased estate, and the children of the elderly couple who had passed away were selling it.
Sarah adds: “One of the children, a man much older than me, was still living there. So, we assumed it was okay to live in.”
Sarah had a full and extensive survey carried out on the house, and the “only potential concern was that the surveyor couldn’t fully inspect the loft due to a sign indicating it wasn’t safe.”
She continues: “He did manage to poke his head up and saw a few droppings, suggesting we query it.
“The vendors responded that a few years ago, a squirrel had gotten into the loft via the eaves.
“The hole had been blocked up, the squirrel removed, and there were no further issues.”
“The sale progressed steadily, but towards the end, the vendors stalled, causing us to miss the stamp duty holiday.
“Consequently, we ended up paying thousands more than we had intended.
“Eventually, we completed the purchase and moved in. I was six weeks pregnant at this time.”
But within the first three days of moving in, Sarah began to notice a strange smell, which she could only describe as “cabbagey.”
She explained: “The smell seemed to be getting stronger, but my husband insisted it was because I was pregnant. I also started noticing other unpleasant smells around the house.
“There was a cupboard in the kitchen with the boiler, and when you opened the door, the musty, musky smell was sickening. It was awful, so my husband agreed to call a pest controller to be on the safe side.”
That night we could hear rats in our bedroom wall scratching furiously as if they were trying to break out
Sarah Arthurwears
“Within five minutes of the pest controller’s arrival and a quick inspection, he confirmed that we had not only a historic rat infestation but also a current infestation with live and decaying rats and numerous droppings.”
Revealing on her blog, Sarah explained that the expert checked the perimeter of the house for entry holes and concluded that the rats were getting in via a drain rather than a hole above ground.
A home survey will establish the condition of a property
A SURVEY gives a detailed inspection into the condition of a property, highlighting any major repair work that’s needed.
It can also help you decide whether or not you’re paying the right amount for your home.
The reports are carried out by qualified surveyors and costs vary from company to company. There are also different types of surveys depending on the depth of the report that you want and your budget.
These are the different types of surveys and their typical prices, according to the Homeowners Alliance:
Condition report, £300 or more
This gives a traffic light report to indicate the conditions of various states of the property – green for okay, orange for cause for concern. The report provides you with a sumary of defects and possible risks but won’t provide any advice or valuations.
HomeBuyers report, £450 or more
On top of everything you get in the condition report, you’ll also get a valuation and an insurance reinstatement value – which is an estimate of how much you’ll receive if the building were to burn down.
Home Condition survey, £400 to £900 These are carried out by the Residential Property Surveyors Association (RPSA) rather than the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and includes information on broadband speeds, a damp assessment and boundary issues to consider. The price depends on the valuation of the property.
Building survey, £500 or more
These are extensive reports where the surveyor will go into places such as the attic, check behind walls and look between floors and above ceilings. It will also provide advice on repairs, estimated costs and timings, and what will happen if you don’t carry out the repairs. Prices depend on the size of the property.
They were advised to get a full drain survey done to locate the entry points.
She continued: “He laid down some more rat poison but made it clear that unless we found the entry points, this would be an ongoing issue.
“He also advised us to try and get hold of the reports from the previous pest control company which the vendors used, to find out exactly what had been done and where the hole was that was sealed up.
“He made an appointment to come back in a few days and lay a different type of liquid poison in the loft once the entry points had been sealed up.
The couple had to spend thousands to help get the rat issue sorted[/caption]
Experts had to track down exactly where the rats were coming through[/caption]
The couple also heard rats scratching through their walls[/caption]
“That night we could hear rats in our bedroom wall scratching furiously as if they were trying to break out.”
Fast forward to now, with lots of work and spending over £2,000, the family has managed to eradicate the issue and rat-proof the house.
Sarah explained: “We have put extensive measures in place to ensure that the house is now rodent-proof.
“Such as: a full drain survey and drain repairs, one-way drain valves installed, all points of ingress filled in, water tank and boiler relocated from the loft/kitchen to the garage, full loft decontamination and re-insulation, new reinforced toilet waste pipes, and removal of encroaching foliage around the house.”
Who is eligible for the First Home Scheme?
ONLY first-time buyers can purchase a home under the First Home scheme and it’s not available in Wales or Scotland.
As the scheme is aimed at helping buyers on lower incomes get on the property ladder, you won’t be eligible if your combined household income is over £80,000, or £90,000 if you live in London.
Those who can afford to buy one of the homes without a mortgage will not qualify for the help.
Buyers must use a mortgage for at least 50% of the price of the discounted home.
However, further conditions can be set by local councils so the eligibility criteria may vary depending on where you’re looking to buy.
For example, some authorities may give key workers first dibs.
But after the first three months of the homes going on sale, extra conditions set by the local authority will be removed for any First Homes which haven’t been sold or reserved.

But as she ran over to the corner flag to celebrate, she was struck by a projectile which appeared to be thrown from the home supporters.
The striker looked over to the crowd to see where the object came from, but as she began walking back to the halfway line referee Silvia Gasperotti brandished a yellow card.
Shaw looked completely perplexed as her team-mate Alex Greenwood attempted to question the decision.
However, Gasperotti just walked away before restarting the match.
Fans on social media were equally confused as to why Shaw received a booking.
One person wrote: “Absolutely crazy decision from the ref.”
Another commented: “Just when you think you have seen the worst decision in women’s football the refs just have to take it to a new level.”
While a third said: “Poor officiating, there has to be severe punishment for this incompetence.”

Other fans appeared to suggest that Shaw was booked for “excessively celebrating” in front of the Hammarby fans.
One commented: “She celebrated in front of Hammarby stand, that’s why she got a yellow card.”
Shaw had the last laugh, however, as she went on to score the winner in superb style.
Just four minutes after Ellen Ingegerd Wangerheim equalised for Hammarby, the striker fired a shot straight into the top-right corner from the edge of the box.
The goal saw her become Man City Women’s all-time top goalscorer in the Champions League.
City went on to win 2-1 to book a spot in the quarter-finals.

WITH freezing temperatures sweeping across the UK, getting your clothes dry might feel like mission impossible.
However, one savvy cleaning enthusiast, who doesn’t own a tumble dryer, has discovered the perfect trick for drying your clothes this winter.
Caroline, who is known as ‘carolineonline21’ on TikTok, has revealed her “tips for drying your clothes in winter if you don’t have a dryer.”
Talking to camera, the mum explained how she discovered an essential two-step method to get clothes dry inside and how to prevent condensation too.
First off, she explained that she uses three different products when cleaning clothes to avoid the musty smell.
These include the Unstoppable Lenore scent booster, currently available at a discounted price of £5 from Ocado; Surf tropical three-in-one tablets, costing £1.29 from Waitrose; and her final secret, the Ecover fabric softener in the five-litre container.
She says: “This is my combination for making my clothes smell nice and not have that horrible musty smell you get from drying clothes indoors.”
Caroline then explains how to help get clothes dry indoors during the colder months.
She says: “If, like me, you dry your clothes inside and you want them to smell nice, my tip is to do small loads on a regular basis.
“Try to take advantage of the few dry days we have in the UK to dry your clothes outside.
“If you dry your clothes indoors, make sure you find a room where you can put all your clothes and keep the windows open for as long as you can throughout the day to get rid of the condensation.
“Otherwise, you’ll have black mould inside your house.
“Also, I see a lot of people not allowing enough air between their clothes when drying them.”
She then shows the camera the air space she has allowed between her clothes on the dryer.
Caroline continues: “You need to allow some airflow through your clothes so that they dry quicker.”
Many cleaning fans rushed to the comments section to share their thoughts.
One wrote: “good tips..I don’t like most fabric softeners as they are too perfumey and heady. Is that eco one lighter in scent?”
To which Caroline replied: “The scent of it is quite strong but it’s very pleasant to me.”
Another added: “True winter is a mess.
“I have clothes on heaters, doors, chairs nearly everywhere because I have boys so there are clothes to wash every day.”
And a third simply said: “Very useful information. Thank you so much.”
How to dry wet washing inside, in winter
Drying rack or airer
Load up your airer with wet washing and place near a heat source – like a radiator or direct sunlight – to help distribute air around your clothes.
Dehumidifier
Plug in a dehumidifier in a room with clothes hanging to dry quickly and prevent dampness and mould. Many now have a laundry setting.
Tumble dryer
A tumble dryer can heat moisture out of wet washing, saving time and can be used in any weather.
Heated airer
Many brands and shops now sell heated airers for as little as £30. The racks heat through electricity and can speed up drying time.
Open a window
Choose a spare room or unused room for keeping your washing and crack open a window, but close the door behind you.
Using curtain poles
Hang wet washing on radiators then hook them onto curtain poles with radiators below. The heat will rise and dry the items. Alternatively, if you have a shower curtain pole, hang your clothes in the bathroom with a window open.
