Karate Kid star Ralph Macchio awarded star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame – next to famous co-star
KARATE Kid Ralph Macchio gets a kick out of his star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame.
Ralph, 63, first played Daniel LaRusso in the classic 1984 flick, as well as TV spin-off Cobra Kai since 2018.
Ralph was joined by co-star William Zabka[/caption]His star is next to the one for Pat Morita, who played Daniel’s teacher Mr Miyagi.
He died in 2005.
Ralph, joined in LA by co-star William Zabka, said: “It means the world to me.”
Although he played a high school student, Ralph was actually 22 when he made Karate Kid.
He reprised the role of Daniel LaRusso in the movie’s sequels, The Karate Kid Part II and The Karate Kid Part III and was actually 27-years-old when the trilogy came to an end.
Ralph landed the part after he impressed producers with his performance as Johnny Cade in the 1983 film The Outsiders.
He currently stars in Cobra Kai, which is a Karate Kid spin-off show and reprises his role of Daniel.
The series takes place 30 years after the events of the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament.
A now successful Daniel struggles to maintain balance in his life without the guidance of Mr Miyagi.
He must also face his previous adversary, down-and-out Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka), who seeks redemption by reopening the infamous Cobra Kai karate dojo.
Mental health warning issued over scrolling negative content online & joining social media row
DOOM-scrolling and joining arguments on social media trap us in a cycle of bad mental health, scientists warn.
They found that reading negative content online makes us unhappy — but we cannot resist looking at more when we feel down.
Mental health issues are surging, with 3.8million people seeking NHS help last year compared to 2.7million in 2019.
A study by University College London says that the internet is adding to people’s woes and a digital detox could help.
A survey of 1,100 web users found their moods deteriorated after being shown negative content.
But when they were allowed to look at whatever they wanted later, those in a bad mood were likely to look for more misery.
Study author Professor Tali Sharot said: “Our results show that browsing negative content not only mirrors a person’s mood but can actively worsen it.
“This creates a feedback loop that can perpetuate mental health challenges.”
Depression and anxiety are the most common mental health issues in Britain.
One in two people suffer with them at some point in their lives.
I’m A Celeb contestant left with bloody injury after quitting Bushtucker trial
AN I’m A Celeb contestant was left with a bloody injury after quitting tonight’s Bushtucker Trial.
Tonight, Dean was tasked with completing the third Bushtucker Trial in three days, with the Radio One DJ thrown into the Lethal Lab – but fans were quick to voice their concern for the star when they noticed “blood” on his face.
Dean’s trial was based at the jungle’s scientific research facility, and he started it in the experimentation area, having two minutes to complete an experiment that would be worth two stars.
This was then followed by seven different containment areas, where more stars were up for grabs – but would he complete them all?
In the containment areas, Dean was not alone and was joined by cockroaches, crickets and mealworms, giant lizards, snakes, and spiders.
After getting four stars in total, the next section was filled with fish guts and Dean immediately shouted: “I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!”
As he was released, Dean went back to camp to break the news to his campmates.
Fans watching the show at home were then quick to spot how it looked as though Dean’s lip had gotten injured during the trial.
INJURY ON AIR
“Bless him for getting 4 stars tho. Also, has anyone noticed that Dean has cut his lip,” penned one viewer on X.
Another then said, “Has Dean cut his lip?”
A third added, “Is it me, or has no-one noticed Dean’s lower lip on the right side bl33ding?”
“Why is Dean’s mouth bleeding? Spider bite?” asked a fourth.
During the trial, Dean had to unscrew stars with his mouth, which might have caused the red mark on his lower lip.
HERO’S WELCOME
But despite his suspected injury and his low star count, Dean’s campmates were overjoyed to see the Radio One DJ return with some grub for dinner.
The camp seemed to be rather pleased with his efforts and decided to treat him to a nice bath and pamper.
Alan and Barry ran Dean a bubble bath to enjoy, while Danny gave him a head massage.
Britain’s biggest police force set to lose 2,000 officers due to budget cuts
BRITAIN’S biggest police force is set to lose 2,000 officers as a result of swingeing budget cuts.
And 400 civilian staff jobs could go as the Met slashes £450million from annual finances.
Some London police stations will reduce opening hours to the public from 9am to 5pm.
The 12.8 per cent reduction from this year’s £3.5billion budget is worse than “eye-watering” cuts feared by Met boss Sir Mark Rowley.
Figures for the new budget are due to be announced at 11pm tonight by the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime, alongside some of the tough measures that must be taken.
Matt Cane, of the Police Federation, warned: “As we have said time and again, cuts have consequences. These will clearly have a significant impact on the Met’s ability to police London.”
And retired Met Chief Supt Simon Ovens warned the cuts could mean the final straw for officers considering other careers.
The Met is already projected to be down to 32,750 officers by March from its operating strength of 35,415.
The loss of an additional 2,000 cops during the incoming financial year from April would put the force back to 2013 levels.
Sir Mark said last week he was “deeply troubled” by talks over the annual settlement.
He said the capital’s spending on policing per head of population was already lower than cities such as New York and Sydney.
This week Home Secretary Yvette Cooper promised a crackdown on shoplifting, phone theft and anti-social behaviour.
She pledged £500million for more cops, though did not specify if the figure included inflation rises.
The Met said: “We maintain a productive dialogue with the Mayor and Home Office. No final decisions have been made.”

TOMMY FITZGERALD is set to be appointed Laois hurling manager.
The O’Moore county were rocked last week when Darren Gleeson was forced to step down from the role in the wake of a cancer diagnosis.
The former Tipperary stopper and outgoing Antrim manager was appointed in August, but cannot continue in order to focus on his treatment and recovery.
Burt Fitzgerald is set to fill the void – and will be ratified at a county board meeting on Monday night.
The Portlaoise clubman is a former Laois hurler and was a selector under Eddie Brennan when the O’Moore county won the 2019 Joe McDonagh Cup.
He was also on the St. Thomas’ backroom team when they sealed All-Ireland club glory last January, and six Galway SHC titles in a row last season.
Fitzgerald also led his club to Laois intermediate glory last year.
Former Dublin hurler Niall Corcoran – who also served as a selector under Brennan – returns as a coach.
A Laois statement released yesterday said: “Tommy Fitzgerald is to be appointed as the new Laois Senior Hurling Manager, succeeding Darren Gleeson who stepped down from position last weekend.
“The Portlaoise native is a former Laois Intercounty hurler and has extensive coaching experience, having managed his Club, Portlaoise, to Premier Intermediate success in 2023 and was also involved as coach with St Thomas, Galway in their All Ireland Senior Club Hurling success in January 2024.
“At Intercounty level, he was a coach / selector with Eddie Brennan when Laois won the Joe McDonagh Cup in 2019.
“For 2025, he will re-unite with his former coach /selector Niall Corcoran, who will take on the role of lead Coach, with his remaining backroom team to be confirmed in coming days.
“Laois GAA wish to take this opportunity to wish Tommy and his management team very best of luck for 2025.
“His name will be put forward for ratification at next Monday’s County Committee meeting.”
Watch as I’m A Celeb contestant Dean McCullough makes TEA for Coleen Rooney as Ant and Dec catch rule breaker
I’M A Celebrity’s Dean McCullough was caught breaking show rules tonight – leaving hosts Ant and Dec unimpressed.
The Northern Irish radio presenter, known for his cheeky personality, slipped a teabag into a pot of boiling water.
He whispered his secret to Coleen Rooney first, before pouring six cups and shouting “does anyone want water?”
Confused, GK Barry asked: “Why are they dark?”
Alan joked: “We got a bit of mud in the kettle but if you try it, it’s not too bad.”
Fed up with the limited rations, Dean delivered the forbidden treat to his co-stars.
But his actions didn’t go unnoticed by the show’s hosts, who caught wind of the blatant rule-breaking.
Ant and Dec decided to conviscate half of the camp’s treats that night.
Melvin won 10 cupcakes in the latest camp challenge, but he was only allowed to return with five.
Later, Dean was forced to give up his teabags.
