Coronation Street quietly recasts character as they make surprise return to cobbles after a year-long absence
CORONATION Street viewers were stunned last night after a character’s surprise return after a year-long absence.
Glory Bailey, daughter of Street regular Michael Bailey (Ryan Russell), reappeared after quietly being recast.
Mayia is being tutored by Tina O’Brien’s drama school[/caption] The young actress made her debut earlier in the week[/caption]She had been absent from the show since earlier this year and had only been mentioned on screen by her family members including dad Michael and grandfather Ed Bailey (Trevor Michael Georges) in recent months.
However, the character, who was previously played by Eleanor Beckles and now Mayia M, made a surprise return as she helped to out the secret that Dee-Dee, who is her aunty, was pregnant with her murdered ex Joel Deering’s baby.
Little Glory revealed the hidden pregnancy test box to Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) who had dropped by to visit Dee-Dee while she was babysitting her niece.
The character then popped up again on Wednesday night’s instalment of the soap as she joined her dad and grandad for a game of cricket on the cobbles.
The game resulted in a scare for pregnant Dee-Dee after the cricket ball accidentally hit her in the stomach, almost revealing her pregnancy to her unaware family.
Child actor Eleanor had played the toddler since her arrival in 2021 and was still credited as playing her up until her final appearance earlier this year.
But it has now been confirmed that Mayia M has now taken over the role as the character looks set to feature more often in the coming months.
Confirming the recast, acting agency The Drama MOB, which is run by Corrie legend Tina O’ Brien, wrote on Instagram: “Welcome to Coronation Street Maiya!
“Who caught our beautiful Maiya last night making her debut as ‘Glory Bailey’? Maiya’s first episode just happened to fall on her 4th birthday, so it was a double celebration!
“Maiya started filming for the role a few months ago and took over from Eleanor – another little Drama MOB star!”
It went on to add: “We cannot wait to see more of Maiya on our screens, Maiya joins a long list of Drama MOB stars playing roles on Coronation Street and we couldn’t be prouder.”

DOZENS of flights have been delayed, grounded and forced to turn back mid-air after Gatwick Airport was evacuated over “bomb” fears.
A “suspected prohibited item” was found in some luggage in the South Terminal this morning, with thousands of passengers now in limbo.
Crowds of passengers are waiting in limbo[/caption] Flights are being called back mid-air[/caption] Passengers queuing up outside[/caption]There’s chaos in the skies as planes are making U-turns or remain idling on the runway.
Holidaymakers have been ordered to “get out now and stay far away”, while trains are suspended to the UK’s second busiest airport.
Pictures and video footage show hordes of passengers waiting in the airport terminal.
Some have been left stuck on flights.
Serena Danna wrote on X that she and fellow passengers are “locked in the plane”, adding: “At the moment we only know that the bomb squad intervened and that train and car traffic are blocked.”
Cops scrambled to the South Terminal at 8.20am, while Explosive Ordance Disposal officers are also on hand as a “precaution”.
Spanish budget airline Vueling has ordered two flights from Barcelona to Gatwick, as well as a single flight from Seville, to turn around and return to their starting points.
The corresponding outbound flights to Spain will also be grounded.
Several flights on the South Terminal departures board are currently listed as being delayed, including the KM Malta 1155 to Malta (KM117), Air Baltic 1155 to Malta (BT6060), easyJet 1210 to Hurghada (EZY8745), easyJet 1230 to Rome (EZY6506) and easyJet 1250 to Antalya (EZY8555) although more disruptions are expected.
The security threat comes just hours after bomb disposal cops detonated another suspicious package at the US Embassy in London.
But it is not yet known whether the two packages are linked.
A passenger told The Sun: “Police are telling people get out now and get as far away as possible.”
The airport’s North Terminal is operating as normal.
And flights are still landing at South Terminal, the airport has confirmed.
Aviation analytics firm Cirium says 316 flights are still due to depart Gatwick Airport today. A further 318 flights are scheduled to arrive.
Posting on Twitter, Nick Meacham said: “Arrived at London Gatwick for routine connection.
“Got through customs to find out they’re evacuating the entire airport.
“Even people through security are being taken outside. Trains shut down and 1000s of people all over the streets and carparks waiting.”
Waiting passengers are being issued with“gallons of water”.
COMMENT: Gatwick Airport evacuation will have huge impact for holidaymakers
By Lisa Minot, The Sun’s Head of Travel
THE evacuation of Gatwick Airport’s South terminal will have a huge impact on the unfortunate passengers trying to fly in or out today.
A total of 316 flights were due to take off from the airport and 318 land throughout the course of today – a total of 122,050 seats – according to aviation analytics company Cirium.
The knock-on effect of the terminal evacuation will be felt throughout the day and into tomorrow as airlines are forced to deal with planes – and cabin crew – in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Although airlines will not have to pay any compensation for delayed or cancelled flights as this is a situation outside of their control, they do have a duty of care to look after passengers.
If your flight is delayed for more than two hours for short haul flights, three hours for medium haul flights and four hours for long haul flights then your airline should be providing you with food and drink, or vouchers to buy them.
They should also be providing you with accommodation and transport to and from the airport if your flight is delayed overnight. And they should also be reimbursing you for any costs for calls you need to make.
If your flight is cancelled, your airline should be making sure you are able to get to your destination as soon as possible, even if that involves flying on another airline.
With the chaos surrounding an airport evacuation, contacting your airline may be difficult.
If you have to buy food, drink or hotel accommodation yourself, make sure to keep all receipts and keep expenses reasonable – they won’t pay you for a champagne five course meal.
The Independent‘s travel correspondent Simon Calder told the news outlet: “This was clearly deemed sufficiently serious for the entire check-in area, as well as the railway station, to be cleared.”
He added: “Arrivals are, I understand, being bussed to North Terminal which is still operational. But there will be large queues building up; there is a limited amount of space.”
Writing on X, one passenger said: “Incredibly impressed with Gatwick Airport and their team… safely evacuated everyone from the terminal and now bringing gallons of water around for everyone.. top job!”
Dozens of flights are delayed[/caption] An emergency vehicle outside the terminal this morning[/caption]Sussex Police said: “Police were called to the South Terminal at Gatwick Airport at 8.20am following the discovery of a suspected prohibited item in luggage.
“To ensure the safety of the public, staff and other airport users, a security cordon has been put in place whilst the matter is dealt with.
“As a precaution, an EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) team is being deployed to the airport.
“This is causing significant disruption and some roads around the South Terminal have been closed.
“We’d advise the public to avoid the area where possible.”
Gatwick Airport said: “The South Terminal has been evacuated as a precaution while we continue to investigate a security incident.
“Passengers will not be able to enter the South Terminal while this is ongoing.
“Safety and security of our passengers and staff remains our top priority.”
The airport added: “We are working hard to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.”
Train passenger information website National Rail Enquiries said: “The police are dealing with an incident at Gatwick airport.
“The station and airport are currently being evacuated.
“Services are able to run through the station and area but will not call at Gatwick airport at this time.
“Please avoid travelling to the station whilst this incident is ongoing.
“This is expected to continue until approximately 2pm.”

THE lives of José Segura Nájera and Sigrid Foles were torn apart when their 22-year-old daughter Anabel Segura disappeared in 1993.
The tragic kidnapping and murder of the Spanish student is examined in Netflix docuseries 900 Days Without Anabel.
Anabel Segura was taken on April 12, 1993[/caption]Who was José Segura Nájera?
José Segura Nájera was a Spanish businessman who worked in the petrochemical industry.
He started a business in Germany before returning to Spain with his family.
José played a crucial role in the efforts to find his daughter Anabel after her disappearance.
He went to extraordinary lengths to secure her safe return, including remortgaging his home and offering substantial rewards for information.
José also hired private companies to investigate his daughter’s disappearance.
Who was Sigrid Foles?
Sigrid Foles was Anabel’s mother.
Of German origin, she moved to Spain with her husband José after he established his business in her homeland.
Anabel was Sigrid and José’s eldest daughter.
At the time of Anabel’s abduction, Sigrid and her younger daughter Sandra were in Marbella.
What happened to their daughter Anabel Segura?
On April 12, 1993, Anabel, a business student at ICADE university, was kidnapped while jogging in the affluent neighbourhood of La Moraleja, Madrid.
She was abducted by Emilio Muñoz Guadix and Candido Ortiz Aon, who forced her into a white van at knifepoint.
Anabel was taken to an abandoned factory in Toledo, where she was tragically murdered within six hours of her kidnapping.

Her kidnappers continued to demand ransom for years afterward, making 14 calls between 1993 and 1995, reportedly demanding up to 150million pesetas (€900,000).
What happened to José Segura Nájera and Sigrid Foles?
Throughout the 900-day kidnapping investigation, José and Sigrid never gave up hope of finding their daughter alive.
The family’s ordeal finally came to an end on September 28, 1995, when Muñoz Guadix and Ortiz Aon were arrested after a member of the public recognised the latter’s voice from televised recordings of the ransom calls.
The kidnappers confessed to the crime and revealed the location of Anabel’s body.
The suspects led police to Anabel’s remains in an abandoned warehouse near Toledo, about 40 miles south of Madrid — allowing her family to finally hold a funeral for their daughter.
Emilio Muñoz Guadix was initially sentenced to 43 years behind bars, but got out on a legal technicality[/caption]Understandably, the bereft couple stayed out of the public glare in the aftermath of the gruesome discovery, and there are no reports of where they are or what they’re up to now.
The family lawyer, who attended a busy press conference on the day of the discovery of her body, said: ”Anabel’s parents are not dominated by hate but they want the full weight of the law and justice against the kidnappers and killers of Anabel.”
One of the killers died in prison, the other was set free
Ortiz Aon and Muñoz Guadix were sentenced to 43 years in prison each for their roles in the kidnapping and murder by the Spanish Supreme Court.
In 2009, Ortiz Aon died in prison at the age of 48.
However, following a ruling by the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) that affected the application of Spain’s Parot doctrine, Muñoz Guadix was released from prison on November 27, 2013.
Candido Ortiz Aon died in prison[/caption]The Parot doctrine was a 2006 Spanish legal ruling that changed how prison sentences were determined for serious offenders.
It effectively extending prison terms by applying reductions to each individual crime rather than the overall sentence.
Muñoz Guadix was released after this controversial practice was deemed a human rights violation and abandoned in 2013.
