MOTORBIKES can be a thrilling way to travel but there’s a secret code every rider should know.
These tiny hand signals can help out fellow motorbike enthusiasts on the road, as road laws can be complicated.
Blinkers
When you’re on a motorbike, it’s very important to be aware of other drivers.
If another rider has left their blinkers on, it might confuse people on the road.
Luckily there is a secret way to let a driver know to turn off their lights.
Reach your hand out to the side and rapidly open and close your fist.
This will mimic the car blinkers and let a driver know that they need to switch them off.
Slow down!
On a bike, you need to be prepared for sharp and unexpected turns and corners.
However, if you spot a sudden turn early, there is a way to warn your fellow motorcyclists.
Simply reach out your hand and keep your palm parallel with the road.
Then, slowly lower your hand to mime “down”.
This lets a rider know to slow down which might just save their life.
Bike formations
Part of the fun of owning a motorbike is joining a motorcycle club.
However, when there are that many bikes on the road, it can get a little bit crowded.
Raise one arm in the air, with your index finger extended, to let everyone know that they need to form a single file.
You can do the same action with two fingers extended to let them know that they need to form a double file.
The secret handshake
There are so many iconic motorbike brands and that can mean that rivalries can form between fans of differing bi.
But, whether you prefer Harley Davidsons or Triumphs, having a motorbike is a badge of pride.
You can show your love for bikes and say “hello” to your fellow riders by sticking your hand out to the side and making a peace sign.
That’s a secret handshake that shows your love for bikes in a way that words can’t.
Stop!
Sometimes you might need to come to a quick stop, but it’s important that you don’t disturb other drivers by doing this.
Show the rider behind you the open palm of your hand to let them know that you need a break.
This signal doesn’t indicate danger though, just that you’re ready to get off your bike for a while.
Kerry Katona set to sign up for huge reality show after devastating split from fiance
KERRY Katona is being eyed up for Celebs Go Dating following her devastating split.
The 44-year-old is single again after a “breach of trust” with fiance Ryan Mahoney.
Ryan Mahoney and Kerry Katona’s relationship is over[/caption]The pair got engaged four years ago, but surprised fans by calling it quits earlier this month.
Now bosses at E4’s Celebs Go Dating are looking to snap up Kerry for the next series – to get dating advice from agents Anna Williamson, Paul Brunson and Dr Tara Suwinyattichaiporn.
An E4 source told The Sun: “Celebs Go Dating have already approached Kerry about doing the next series.
“They’re desperate to sign her – she’s done the show before and was great value, and the public love her.
“She’s been through real heartache again after another failed relationship, and they know viewers will be rooting for her to find her happy ending.”
Kerry has been married and divorced three times, with plans to wed Ryan in Las Vegas in the near future.
She was previously married to Brian McFadden from 2002 to 2006, Mark Croft from 2007 to 2011 and George Kay from 2014 to 2017.
Revealing the break up with Ryan in her OK! Magazine coloumn, Kerry said: “Last week I spoke about how Ryan and I were having a tough time and now he has moved out of the house.
“We are no longer together and It’s been a really tough week – I never in a million years thought this would happen. Without going into too much detail, there has been a breach of trust between us.”
The 44-year-old continued: “I don’t know if we’ll be able to work it out or not, but I do still love him so much. I feel like everything has heaped on recently and it’s so much to deal with, I am really struggling.
“But I know I can get through it no matter what happens, I’ve been through break-ups before and come out the other side, so we just need to see what happens.”
Kerry’s not the only high-profile celebrity split in recent weeks.
The Sun revealed Kyler Walker’s ex-wife Annie Kilner is on their wish list after she instructed solicitors to initiate proceedings against the footie ace last month.

GIANFRANCO ZOLA has revealed how Cole Palmer has promised to take him for dinner when he scores his next free-kick.
Palmer, 22, wasn’t too sure of who the Chelsea legend was when asked about him last month.
Gianfranco Zola has revealed a promise Cole Palmer made for when he scores his next free-kick[/caption] Palmer ranked 25th in the Ballon d’Or this year[/caption] But Zola believes that with practice he could win the whole thing[/caption]Instead, what he did know was Zola, 58, was an Icon card on the popular video game series EA Sports FC, previously known as Fifa.
By that reckoning, Palmer insisted: “I know he’s an icon on Fifa so he must have been good.
“I didn’t really watch him play but everyone says he was a great player.”
However, the pair have now had the chance to meet up and get properly acquainted with one another.
Playing a quickfire game of “Who has the better?” for a video shared to social media, Zola and Palmer took turns pointing at one another when they believed the other person was the answer to the question.
The first question asked who has the better first touch, to which Zola pointed at Palmer.
Palmer was surprised when Zola again pointed at him after being asked who has better skills.
The third question saw them asked who has the better card on EAFC, to which Palmer promptly pointed at Zola, explaining how the Italian had an 87-rated Icon card while he had an 85-rated player card.

The pair were then asked, who is the best free-kick taker, Palmer quickly pointed to Zola before insisting his was just luck.
In response, Zola said: “No, there is no luck, its ability.
Zola then revealed a promise the England international had made to him.
He continued: “But he needs to practice more.
“He promised me he’s going to. He told me he’s going to take me for dinner if he scores after practicing.”
The comment prompted a laugh from Palmer, who then nodded to Zola.
Finally, they were asked who had the best celebration, with Zola pointing to Palmer before doing his “chilly” celebration.
Zola played 312 games for Chelsea between 1996 and 2003, scoring 80 goals.
By contrast, Palmer only joined the Blues in 2023 but has already scored 32 goals in 58 games.
However, Zola has previously said he believes Palmer, who placed 25th on this year’s Ballon d’Or list, has the potential to compete for the full trophy.
He said: “He needs to work a lot on his game, of course, because he is still young and there are things that can make him better.
“And if he does that, he can be in contention for the Ballon d’Or because the numbers and the skills are there.
“There is still work to do but potentially he can do that.
“He has a very, very good coach to work with in Maresca and I am sure he will make sure he works on that.”
Palmer pulled out of Lee Carsley‘s final England squad due to injury concerns that had also seen him be doubtful for the Arsenal draw before the international break.
Enzo Maresca said Palmer and team-mate Levi Colwill would be assessed before determining for certain whether they would be available to play Leicester this weekend.
He said: “Some of them are better, some of them are still doubts and also we need to wait because today is the first session that we do with all the players who were with their national team.”
Urgent warning over ‘dangerous’ Irish roads amid 9 ‘essential’ winter driving tips – including when to use low gear
AS IRELAND is dealing with a cold snap, drivers are being urged to take extra care on the roads.
Driving throughout the winter can be more challenging as weather conditions change.
Ice and snow can make the roads hazardous, but there are ways you can make travelling safer.
The AA took to X, formerly Twitter, to share their tips on keeping your car safe in the winter.
They warned: “Friday’s set to be frosty with a high of 2°C and a low dipping to -2°C.
“If you haven’t already prepped your car for winter, now’s the time!
“P.S. Don’t forget the flask of tea or coffee for the journey – Irish winter mornings are better with a bit of warmth!”
They warned that the combination of changing weather, reduced daylight and the increased risk of fatigue can make it more challenging.
On the website, the AA team added: “A few small changes to your driving behaviour can go a long way towards keeping our roads safe.
The company has a list of ways to prep your car for the winter.
BE ALERT TO THE RISK OF FATIGUE
Fatigue is an issue year-round, but there is an added risk during the winter while driving in the dark.
If you’re driving fatigued, the best option is to pull in somewhere for a 10 to 15 minute nap, and get a coffee if you can.
PLAN YOUR JOURNEY IN ADVANCE
Your car may take longer to get started during the winter, so it IS important to plan ahead.
You should plan to leave around 10 minutes early to give you extra time to prepare the car.
ENSURE YOUR WINDSCREEN IS FULLY CLEAR
You should never drive with just a small gap of your windscreen cleared, you should clear the whole thing using a scraper and de-icer if necessary.
ALLOW EXTRA TIME FOR JOURNEYS
You should allow extra time for any journeys throughout the winter, especially early in the morning or late at night.
But you should also be aware that due to unexpected delays you may find yourself running late.
You should never forego safety measures just to get on the road a little earlier.
BE PREPARED TO DRIVE IN SNOW AND ICE
You should be prepared to slow down and use gentle maneuvers when driving to stay safe.
You should also adapt your driving to the days weather conditions.
Remember that stopping distances are 10 times longer in snow and ice.
USE A LOW GEAR
If you’re driving on snowy or icy roads, use a lower gear when driving uphill.
Leave plenty of space between you and the car in front.
If you are driving downhill, slow down before reaching the hill, use a low gear and avoid any sudden braking.
HAVE THE RIGHT FOOTWEAR
It’s important to remember that your shoes could become wet during the day, increasing the risk that they may slip off the pedals in the car.
The AA recommend having a pair of flat shoes that you only use for driving.
KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR BREAKDOWNS
The number of pedestrians and cyclists may drop during the winter months, especially if the weather worsens, but you should still keep an eye out for them.
Allow extra space when overtaking.
If you encounter a broken down car, only overtake when it’s safe to do so and use your hazard warning lights to alert cars behind you.
Moment Mary Lou McDonald belts out tunes with the Wolfe Tones as she praises ‘iconic’ performance with Brian Warfield
THIS is the moment Sinn Fein leader Mary Lou McDonald got on stage alongside the Wolfe Tones.
The party held a ‘Rally for Change’ youth event in Dublin city centre yesterday, with the iconic Irish rebel tune band performing at the event.
Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, McDonald posted a snap of herself on stage with Brian Warfield, hailing it as an “iconic” moment in her life.
She wrote: “I’ve been on many a stage but this might be the most iconic one yet.”
Sinn Fein National Administrator Oisin McCann shared a vidoe of McDonald on stage with Warfield, who she joined in singing along with We’re On The One Road.
Speaking at the event, Mary Lou vowed that this election is “really crucial” for young people who, she said have the “highest stakes.”
She said she was “delighted” to speak with so many young people at the event.
McDonald said: “This election is an important one for everyone but I believe that it’s a really crucial one for young people, all of you are the ones with the most to win but also with the highest stakes.
“Today we launched our pledge to young people to make housing and rent and student accommodation more affordable.
“To deal with services that you rely on, to do all of those things because we know and we believe that we can live in a really equal and free Ireland.
“We want you to build your lives here.
“Always remember that the big historic steps forward in Irish history were led by young people who looked around at the society, the Ireland and the world that they lived in and said we can do better and we will do better.
“We’ll dream big and we live for our dreams, you are the generation that I hope wil lraise in time if you wish your own families here in an Ireland that is truly united and free, that is still our dream.”
MANIFESTO PROMISES
Sinn Fein are promising a cost of living package that is worth thousands of euro to workers and families in tax cuts, slashing childcare fees and making prescription meds free.
And Mary Lou McDonald’s party has vowed to kick off these cuts with a mini budget within the first 100 days if they are elected to Government.
Sinn Fein launched their manifesto this week which includes building 300,000 homes over the next five years – including 125,000 social, affordable purchase and cost rental homes at a cost of €7.4bn per year.
In healthcare, they plan to add 5,000 hospital beds to the system while also making prescription medicines free to all households and providing full medical cards to anyone who currently has a free GP card.
Inside Mary Lou McDonald's political & personal life
MARY Lou McDonald is the current leader of the Sinn Fein political party in Ireland.
McDonald serves as a TD for the Dublin Centre constituency and has previously worked as deputy leader of her party, Sinn Fein’s Spokesperson for Public Expenditure and Reform and the party’s All-Ireland Spokesperson for Mental Health and Suicide Prevention.
She was an MEP for Dublin from 2004 to 2009.
Prior to stepping into politics McDonald worked as consultant for the Irish Productivity Centre, a researcher for the Institute of European Affairs and a trainer in the trade union sponsored Partnership Unit of the Educational and Training Services Trust.
In 1996 the Dublin TD married her husband Martin Lanigan. The pair have two teenage children together, Iseult and Gerard.
The outspoken opposition party leader has been vocal in the media and in Dail Eireann on Government policy on everything from housing to health.
In September, the politician opened up about recent personal challenges, including her husband’s cancer diagnosis, her father’s death and her own hysterectomy.
She told Virgin Media Television’s Ireland AM that “life just throws curveballs at you”.
She added: “A cancer diagnosis is just a game changer for the individual, but also for the family, and that was the case for our family.
“I’m talking about it now because he’s one of the very lucky ones in that we have come to the end game, we see the light.
“We’re walking into the light at the end of the tunnel and his prognosis now is, is good, thank God and for that I am eternally, eternally grateful.”
The Sinn Fein president’s father, Patrick Bernard McDonald, died back on July 29.
And the politician underwent a hysterectomy in June 2023, admitting she had faced a “very tough year” overall.
The party’s potential finance minister Pearse Doherty said he will abolish the USC for all workers on the first €45,000 you earn – which would amount to about €2,000 per year and cost the State €1.84 billion.
The Donegal TD has also committed to scrapping the local property tax and the TV licence all together.
The party proposes cutting the price of petrol and diesel by reversing two recent hikes for one year.
And Sinn Fein claim they can reduce the price of childcare to €10 per day – saving a family currently paying €1,200 a month up to €600.
What Irish TV channel is Arsenal vs Nottingham Forest on? Stream, kick-off time and odds as Premier League returns
THE Premier League kicks back into gear this weekend following the last international break of 2024.
Amongst Saturday’s fixtures is Arsenal’s home game against high-flying Nottingham Forest.
Mikel Arteta will have been irked by Leandro Trossard sustaining an injury while playing for Belgium while Ben White’s been ruled out for month after a problem sustained in training[/caption]The sides are level on 19 points apiece with Forest having surpassed all expectations so far.
Arsenal meanwhile can’t afford to drop too many more points if they’re to maintain serious aspirations of mounting a title challenge into the spring.
Here’s everything you need to know about the match-up:
What Irish TV channel is Arsenal vs Nottingham Forest on?
It will be shown live on Premier Sports 1. Kick-off will be at 3 pm on Saturday November 23.
So you’ll only be able to stream via the Premier Sports Player if you have a subscription with the Irish broadcaster.
What are the odds?
Surprisingly, the North Londoners are heavy favourites at 1/3 while the away side all the way out at 8/1.
A draw is priced at 15/4.
It’s worth remembering that Nuno Espírito Santo’s charges handed Arne Slot his first and so far only loss at Anfield earlier this campaign.
Edu sub-plot:
This game comes a matter of weeks after Edu swapped Arsenal for Forest as he’s taken over as Sporting Director for the wider multi-club project helmed by owner Evangelos Marinakis.
It has come at a time when the title-chasing Arsenal are at their most stable, consistent and successful on and off the pitch since the glory days of Edu’s own Invincibles side under Arsene Wenger.
A dream job, some would argue.
In comparison, Forest have been leaving a trail of undesirable box office drama behind them for many years now, from VAR squabbles to cigar-spitting accusations, under their eccentric owner Marinakis who is eyeing world domination via his Manchester City-inspired multi-club model.
So, why would Edu risk tainting an impressive dossier of work at Arsenal for an unspecified triple-your-money role with Grecian grouch Marinakis – a man currently at the centre of a blackmail conspiracy in his home country?
The simple answer is: power. Edu is an ambitious Brazilian who quietly eyed a bigger role at the Emirates, and discretely looked elsewhere when it was clear that was unlikely.
Despite several Brazil stars currently in Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta’s squad, Edu’s expertise and knowledge of the country and English football was not solely relied upon with Arteta having a large say in all recruitment dealings.
Under Marinakis, however, he is expected to have greater say as a powerful and extremely well-paid executive over the general running of an empire which so far consists of Forest, Olympiacos and Portuguese side Rio Ave.
Marinakis has also eyed up Serie A’s Monza and is reportedly in talks to add Rio de Janieiro-based Vasco da Gama to his growing portfolio.
The latter is believed to have been with Edu in mind – a man who has great connections in Brazil from his time as a director of football at Corinthians and general coordinator of the national team before joining Arsenal in July 2019.
