From Soap Mactavish to Captain Price, the Call of Duty franchise has produced some iconic characters over the years, particularly in the Modern Warfare sub-series. Simon Riley, better known as Ghost, is one of the most adored by fans.
He was a key figure in the 2022 Modern Warfare 2 single-player campaign, and the British special forces’ mask has come to represent the series. We still can’t forget the scene when he was burnt alive by Capt Shepherd in MW2 (2009). The character’s popularity rose so high, there was serious demand for a Ghost spin-off title.
Two Years Ago, We Got a Slight Glimpse of a Ghost Spin-Off Title in Call of Duty Setting
According to reports from a well-known leaker in 2022, Infinity Ward has started developing a new campaign that will explore Ghost’s beginnings. Ralphs Valve disclosed in a piece for whatifgaming that the Modern Warfare game developers want to explore the character’s past in a new single-player narrative.
The leaker claims that Samuel Roukin, who plays Ghost’s voice, was asked about the possibility while Modern Warfare 2 was being developed. However, there was no proof that Roukin had signed on. According to the leaker, the spin-off would concentrate on Ghost’s life prior to the events of Modern Warfare 2 and provide some insight into how he came to don his trademark mask.
The idea of a distinct Ghost campaign has been brought up previously. Brian Bloom, the head writer for Infinity Ward, told IGN that the team “would like” to work on Modern Warfare 2 before its release.
Simon “Ghost” Reilly, who was born in Manchester and experienced personal hardships and severe family trauma, went on to have a prosperous military career. For fans, Riley’s story of tenacity, selflessness and eventual treachery is legendary. He has repeatedly demonstrated his resilience, whether it is in the face of Russian adversaries or his family’s demons.
Samuel Roukin Would be the Perfect Man to Don the Ghost Character in a Spin-Off Title
Samuel Roukin, an English actor best known for his work in Turn: Washington’s Spies, provides the voice of Lieutenant Simon “Ghost” Reilly in Modern Warfare 2 (2022). After taking Jeff Leach’s place in the original MW2 cast, the MW2 voice actor returned to voice Ghost in Modern Warfare 3 as well.
As of now, there is no confirmation from Activision about a separate spin-off title on Ghost, but if there has been any, it was surely Roukin’s job to take the recording mic once again.
Turn: Washington’s Spies is one of the most successful spy series of the last decade. In it, Rouking played the role of Captain John Graves Simcoe, which perfectly aligns with the background of Ghost.
Sadly, those claims from that leaker never came to reality. We are yet to witness a spin-off title on Ghost, to know more about his dark past and his journey of seeing the light of becoming one of the most essential members of Task Force 141. We hope Infinity Ward announces something in the near future for a special title, dedicated to our masked hero.
