A yellow weather warning has hit parts of Scotland causing weather chaos[/caption]
Several other warnings for snow and ice have been in force across the UK, with the Met Office advising that vehicles could be stranded, power cuts may occur and rural areas could be cut off.
The forecaster on Tuesday warned of snow showers developing during the evening and continuing overnight into Wednesday morning.
The showers may be heavy at times and accompanied by lightning in some areas.
Some lying snow could reach up to 10cm or more over higher ground and ice is expected to form on untreated surfaces.
School pupils in the Highlands and Borders will not be affected by the adverse conditions.
However several schools in Aberdeenshire are closed including Alford Academy, Alford Primary School, Ballater School, Ballogie Nursery, Barthol Chapel School, Cairney School, Crudie School, Daviot School, Drumblade School, Finzean School, Forgue School, Glass School, Gordon Schools, Keithhall School, Kennethmont School, Largue School, Lumsden School, Mintlaw Academy, Ordiquhill School, Premnay School, Rayne North School, Rhynie School, Towie School, Turriff Academy.
Shetland, Orkney and Comhairle nan Eilean Siar council areas were asked for an update.
Met Office spokesman Stephen Dixon said: “We’ve had a fairly mild November so far.
He added: “The highest accumulations are likely over the mountains in Scotland, where over higher ground you could see around 20cm of snow through this week accumulating on the ground.
“They are not necessarily the most disruptive snowfalls, but it only takes a couple of centimetres on lower ground to cause some level of travel disruption.”
Tuesday saw widespread disruption across the UK, with more than 200 school closures reported by the afternoon.
Thousands of train passengers suffered disruption on Tuesday morning and a Stagecoach bus in Aberdeenshire toppled onto its side with a passenger on board in icy conditions.

PETER Andre has revealed the surprising Hollywood A-Lister who became the muse for his nose job.
The singer, 51, sat down with Abbey Clancy on her podcast Exhibit A to discuss his “Dark Times” including the stars struggles with self-image and the downside of fame.
Peter revealed the Hollywood Actor his nose job was based off of on Abby Clancy’s podcast[/caption]
Back in 2021, Peter had opened up about the reason he had decided to have cosmetic surgery after being targeted as child from suffering racist abuse from cruel bullies during his school days in Australia.
The star told how not only pupils, but even his teachers and neighbours mocked his appearance and heritage.
Referring back to those times on the podcast, Peter said: “I remember at school in Australia because everyone was really good-looking you know they had really small noses and so of course I’m going to stick out.
“I remember girls that I used to fancy so much and they’d be like urgh look at his nose I remember it all so clearly.
“Obviously as an adult looking back I’m thinking I should have just been proud of it but I couldn’t wait to get to the age where I could do something about it.”
“Now I was 24 or 25 it was after mysterious girl, I had my original nose so to speak and it was after that I did it but you’ll notice if you ever see pictures of me back then, I never looked side on if someone took a picture I always had to be front on and I always looked down and I did that because I hated what I saw,” he continued.
In order to fix his issue Peter explained how a he went to a cosmetic surgeon in Los Angeles taking a picture of Hollywood Actor Robert Downey Jr with him.
“I took him a picture of Robert Downey Jr in the film Only You and Robert Downey Jr was just this freaking handsome guy and he’d always be side profile I’m like I want my nose to look like that so took a picture of it, took it to this doctor could you make me look like Robert Downey Jr.”
Abbey then asked: “What did he say?”
With Peter swiftly replying: “ I’m not a magician but he said I’ll tell you what I can make your nose much better now I’m not saying that my nose looks like Robert Downey Jr but what I will say is the minute that operation happened I felt a sense of relief.
“I can’t explain it I would start being confident to be side profile I’m doing it now and then something amazing happened I realised I’d been focusing on my body for so long to take the attention away from my face.
” So the minute this happened from 1997-98 I never took my shirt off again in any videos in anything I did because I didn’t feel I needed to do that,” he continued.
Over the years, the Dad-of-four has expressed concerns about plastic surgery worries for his own children especially daughter Princess Andre, 17.
Last year, a source revealed that the singer was anxious about the effect that his ex-wife Katie Price’s surgery obsession could have on their teen in relation to body image and self-confidence.
The insider explained, “While Princess insists she won’t go under the knife like her mum, Pete’s very aware how quickly things could change as she gets older, especially now she’s entered the modelling world.”
“Princess is a sensible girl but like all teens she’s impressionable and while Pete understands Katie is entitled to do what she likes with her body, he’s aware of the risk of some of it rubbing off on their daughter.”
