Mystery sea creature dubbed ‘something out of ALIEN’ with glowing spikes washes up on UK
A MYSTERIOUS creature with glowing spikes has been spotted crawling along a UK beach, leaving locals horrified.
The alien-like animal was seen by a conservation group as it wriggled slowly along the shore in Sussex.
A strange looking creature was found in Rye, Sussex, crawling along the beach[/caption]The strange critter was identified as a Sea Mouse which tends to live on the sea floor, but was washed up on the coast of the village Rye due to bad weather.
Rye Harbour events organiser Sarah Watson said: “This furry creature is a Sea Mouse, a chunky marine worm.
“About 15cm long and rarely seen, but in winter, storms can wash them up on the high tide line.
“Look closely among its duller bristles to see a shimmering, iridescent fringe.”
The Sea Mouse’s vibrant bristles can glimmer blue, green, and gold, making it look like something straight out of a sci-fi film.
They can grow up to 30cm and while they are common on UK coasts they’re rarely seen in person, often laying buried head-first in the sand.
As creepy as they look, the spiky Sea Mouse isn’t harmful to humans, despite being an active predator.
The sharp-looking creature feeds on crabs and other worms while under the sea bed.
They’re also not particularly fast and won’t be chasing you down any time soon.
Commenting on a video of the creature, Sarah said: “The video is sped up to be three times faster than real life.
“Clever engineering aside, sea mice are rather slow.”
Sarah assured locals that the unique animal found at Rye Harbour nature reserve was popped safely back into the sea.
They usually are found in the Atlantic and Mediterranean so it was no surprise people were shocked when it was spotted on the beach.
People have been sharing their reaction to the bizarre animal online.
One user joked: “Looks like somebody has dropped their toupee.”
Another added: “I ‘d just keep well away and make sure I kept my shoes on.”
A third user simply wrote: “OMG.”
The scientific name for the Sea Mouse is Aphrodita aculeata.
This was inspired by Aphrodite, the Greek Goddess of Love, according to the Wildlife Trusts.

GK Barry is left gasping for air in I’m A Celeb’s hardest Bushtucker Trial yet.
The podcast host, 25, and Radio 1 host Dean McCullough team up for the Drown in the Dumps challenge.
The podcast host is seen trying to unlock stars at the bottom of a tank[/caption] The YouTuber is seen struggling as Ant and Dec watch on[/caption]In a preview clip, GK, real name Grace, is seen holding her breath as she swims to the bottom of a tank to unlock a star with a key.
But it’s not as easy as it sounds, as the water continues to fill the tank – leaving the star gasping for air.
Grace attempts to unlock the various padlocks with the key – with encouragement from hosts Ant and Dec.
But the YouTuber is left struggling as she’s forced to go back up to the surface to catch her breath.
ITV viewers will have to tune in tonight to see how many stars the duo gets.
Earlier this week, Grace took on the Vile Volcano in a bid to win stars for camp, but was faced with a massive spider on her helmet.
Heading underground, the Saving Grace podcast host wasn’t alone, with her joined by critters galore for her first trial of the season.
Grace impressed viewers after bagging nine out of ten stars.
While last night Dean dramatically quit the Bushtucker Trial after breaking down in tears.
The Sinister Sarcophagus trial started with Dean climbing into a mummy figurine, as he attempted to steady his nerves.
The Radio 1 star was then visibly shaken as he squeezed his head into an insect-filled box to retrieve stars for the camp with his mouth.
Ant and Dec asked him a series of Egypt-related questions and for every one he answered correctly, a star was lowered down.
He told the presenters: “You’re so extra this series, so extra!’ before adding: “I went to Egypt years ago, but I wasn’t paying attention.”
Dean had to release the stars using only his mouth, however, he quickly began to panic.
Within moments, he was shouting: “oh no, oh no”.
He then screamed the famous words: “I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!”
His decision to quit meant the camp won only two stars, leaving them with fewer rations for the night.

Jessica responded: “I just did a sniff”

Two Metropolitan Police officers are under criminal investigation for potential driving offences after a heavily pregnant woman and her baby died following a collision with an unmarked police car in south-east London in October, the Independent Office for Police Conduct said.
IOPC regional director Mel Palmer said: “The deaths of the woman and her baby are tragic, and our thoughts remain with her family and friends, and all of those affected.
“We have met with the woman’s family to explain our role and we will provide them with regular updates as our investigation progresses. The woman’s family have asked that their privacy is respected at this time.
“This was a devastating incident on a busy road and our investigators are working hard to establish all of the circumstances leading up to the collision and the actions of the officers involved.
“At the end of our investigation we will decide whether to refer a file of evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service to consider possible criminal charges and also decide whether any officers should face disciplinary proceedings.”
