From baboon lip jibes to skinny-shaming taunts… How feisty stars have clapped back at vile trolls to come out on top

THEY have fame, fortune, beauty and talent… But while some of our favourite stars seemingly have the world at their feet, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows.

Living in the spotlight can have its drawbacks, and in this day and age, the Internet and social media means our favourite stars are never far away from cruel taunts and criticism too.

And while some – like supermodel Gisele Bündchen, who was ridiculously once told her nose was too big to grace a magazine cover – make millions proudly flaunting the physical ‘quirks’ they were once teased for, they’re still easy targets for trolls.

It must be hard, facing a constant barrage of criticism, and understandably sometimes they inevitably crack, and want to retaliate.

Here, we take a closer look at how some famous figures have recently opted to fight back…

‘You dizzy f***!’

Singer and lingerie designer Rihanna, 36, has never been known to be the shy, retiring type and doesn’t suffer fools gladly, so it takes someone incredibly brave – or stupid – to take her on.

Rihanna was quick to shut down one troll on Instagram, who referred to her as ‘forehead’[/caption]

So when the mum-of-two – who has been in a relationship with A$AP Rocky since 2020 – posted an upbeat video on Instagram to celebrate the new year and was on the receiving end of a rude comment, she was bound to respond.

One follower bluntly commented: “We want an album forehead,” referring to the fact the last time she released record Anti was 2016.

“You ain’t cute enough to be calling me by my black name you dizzy f***!” the star replied in the comments, delighting plenty of other fans.

‘Keep it to your f****** self’

Kate Beckinsale, 51, has been forced to hit back at people on multiple occasions after they’ve commented on her weight.

“It’s not a criticism, but I think you’ve lost too much weight lately,” one follower commented recently.

Clearly sick and tired of unsolicited remarks, the Pearl Harbour star retorted: “Next time you feel like commenting on someone’s body, I suggest you keep it to your f****** self.”

Meanwhile another wrote: “She’s very thin. Is everything OK at home?”, to which the actress replied: “Everything is absolutely great. f*** off.”

Baboon a*** abuse

Former Coronation Street actress Helen Flanagan, 34, is known for her sexy, sultry selfies and glamorous outfits and has always been open when it comes to discussing plastic surgery and tweakments.

The mum-of-three has grown up in the spotlight, so her transformation from child soap star to mother, model and TV personality has been very public.

Which sadly has meant she’s got used to being at the receiving end of a regular barrage of abusive comments too.

Just last month Helen took to Instagram to post a video of herself getting ready for a night out, and was met by a stream of remarks about her lips.

She shared some of the hateful comments she had received, including one who said her lips looked like a ‘baboon’s a***.

She added: “I never understand why people can be so mean… it doesn’t actually matter how someone looks if you’ve got a good heart you’re beautiful anyway.

“I have never commented anything mean on anyone’s feed…. Especially as a mum I teach my children to be kind.

“My lips aren’t even that big… it’s an angle… it’s just a makeup video.”

‘Quack, quack’

Helen’s not the only one to come under scrutiny for her personal decision to have lip fillers.

Kerry Katona, 44, opted to hit back with humour at trolls as she was compared to a duck in a comment on a video showing the mum-of-five having lip injections.

But while the Atomic Kitten star was delighted at her treatment, the first commenter said: “Why do women feel the need to do this …..”

Kerry wrote back: “I think you should do whatever makes you happy.”

Another person cruelly wrote: “It’s not natural when they look like a duck”, to which Kerry simply responded: “Quack, quack.”

‘I’m 29 you p****’

It’s not the first time Love Island host Maya has hit back at trolls – and no doubt it won’t be the last
Instagram

Love Island host Maya Jama, now 30, has been hitting headlines for her new romance with Man City footballing ace Ruben Dias, so she’s used to all eyes on her.

But it’s not all positive, and she’s been forced to defend herself multiple times from rude remarks.

Just last year after she uploaded a video of herself dancing in a glam black bodycon outfit, one user commented on X/Twitter: “Pushing 40 and dancing like this for Tiktok.”

Not one to mince her words, Maya replied: “I’m 29 you p****.”

Previously explaining her outlook on trolling, Maya wrote: “For anyone who deals with mean comments from strangers online – on the rare occasion I do reply.

“…no one has ever been rude to me in person…hopefully that reminds you anyone who spends their time hurling abuse at strangers on the internet is usually a p**** projecting, knowing that you should feel sorry for them not angry at them.”

What is trolling?

Online expert and co-founder of YEO Messaging, Sarah Bone, explains what trolling is, and how to deal with it if you fall victim...

She says: “Trolling is when someone intentionally posts inflammatory, offensive, or provocative content online to upset or provoke a reaction from others.

“It’s a form of online harassment that can be deeply damaging.

“The impact of trolling on victims can be significant.

“It can affect mental health, leading to anxiety, stress, and even depression.

“It can also undermine confidence, making people reluctant to engage online or share their opinions.”

If you find yourself a victim of trolling, here are Sarah’s top tips:

  1. Don’t Engage: Trolls thrive on reactions. Resist the urge to respond or retaliate.
  2. Block and Report: Most platforms have tools to block users and report abusive content. Use them.
  3. Take Screenshots: Document the harassment in case you need to escalate it to authorities or seek legal advice.
  4. Talk About It: Share your experience with trusted friends or family. You don’t have to face it alone.
  5. Protect Your Space: Adjust your privacy settings to control who can see and interact with your posts.

Body positive message

Christina Aguilera, 44, has grown up in the glare of the spotlight, so has had to develop pretty thick skin over the decades.

In an Instagram post shared recently reflecting on 2024, the ‘Fighter’ singer shared a video montage which included body-shaming social media posts from trolls, including one labelling her a ‘bobblehead’ and another calling her ‘fake’.

Taking the high road, she chose to use the negativity to promote her own positive message, writing in the caption: “Everyone will judge you. No matter WHAT you do.

“Acceptance comes with accepting yourself first.

“This year, doing something a little different. This is a reminder to everyone that you are your OWN STORYTELLER in your OWN LIFE.”

‘Sexually aggressive’ remarks

She landed a starring role in the much-coveted Disney series Rivals, but even that wasn’t enough to silence the haters, with Emily Atack, 35, forced to hit back at online trolls after negative attention from viewers.

Emily, who played Sarah Stratton in the series and stripped off for the part, revealed that she received a lot of ‘sexually aggressive’ comments and criticism.

She said: “I can’t control people’s sexually aggressive behaviour.

“I should be able to do a scene like this and not receive negative attention. The two should not go hand in hand.”

She added: “A woman said to me on Instagram the other day, ‘Pick a lane. You can’t play a racy role like that and get your clothes off and expect not to get messages. Why would you take that role?’

“I wanted to say to her, ‘Are you telling me essentially to quit my job?’ Why should I?”

Kylie Jenner’s face & body evolution: From ‘quiet’ Kardashian to ‘snatched’ filler fails & ‘natural’ Golden Globes look

THE youngest Kardashian sister Kylie Jenner has grown up in front of the camera and has quickly become the most popular out of the clan.

Her stardom means eyes are always on her, from becoming a mum-of-two with rapper Travis Scott to now supporting her new man Timothée Chalamet at the Golden Globes.

But it’s not just her personal life that fans are obsessed with, it’s also her everchanging appearance from going from the quiet Kardashian sister to her filler obsession.

Recently, while attending the Golden Globes, fans were quick to spot that Kylie had decided to pare back her look and embrace her natural features.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one user penned: “Kylie looks beautiful tonight, and dare I say, natural.”

“Kylie looks amazing, hope the haters are chocking,” another wrote.

Here we take a look at Kylie’s evolution throughout the years while growing up in the limelight.

NATURAL BEAUTY

Age: 11 (2008)

Clearly, a more shy version of the Kylie Hollywood knows now – the 11-year-old rocked simple shorts and a plaid top as she attended an event in 2008.

Her beaming smile dazzled the camera and her natural beauty shined through as she shunned any traces of make-up.

TAN-TASTIC

Age: 13 (2010)

As she switched from schoolgirl to teenager, along came the tan and eyeliner.

Kylie sported a deep golden glow at events and with her lips pursed into a determined pout, she gave the first hints of her sassy sophisticated character coming through.

SMOKY-EYED KY

Age: 14 (2011)

By the time she was 14, Kylie had the smokey eye look all figured out as she began to experiment with makeup.

Gone were the days of her stepping onto the Red Carpet makeup-free and instead dark liner made her eyes pop with eyeshadow in the same shade adding to the sultry look.

She looked every inch the cool A-Lister with her long hair flowing over her shoulders.

SEX SIREN

Age: 16 (2013)

Just two years later and Kylie’s sassiness reached a max as she looked completely unrecognizable.

The TV beauty showed she wouldn’t be content living in her sisters’ shadows as she put on a bold display of skin-baring clothes.

ALL GROWN UP

Age: 17 (2014)

At 17, Kylie began to experiment with her hair as she showed off different colors and hairstyles every other week.

Her fashion sense evolved, opting for tight dresses which made the most of her figure.

It was as she turned 17 that she had her first temporary lip fillers.

Surgeon Dr. Simon Ourian, who has tended to the star on the treatment table, told her sister Khloe: “Kylie has become very wise in what she wants to have done. She has been going through an amazing metamorphosis over the past couple of years.”

POUTY KYLIE

Age: 18 (2015)

The beauty sported brand new lips as she reached her 18th birthday.

Surgeon Dr. Ourian said she had gone through “an amazing metamorphosis” as she revealed the results of her cosmetic procedure.

However, the beauty has denied having any further surgery as she told Wonderland magazine: “People think that I’ve had everything done.

“I thought it was going to chill down when I said, ‘OK, I admit it, I got my lips done, I never lied, I just wasn’t telling the whole truth’.

“And then people took that and were like, ‘Oh well, if she got her lips done she probably got everything done’. People don’t realize I just turned 18, so there’s no way my mom would ever let me undergo a nose job or boob job.”

NEW YEAR, NEW KYLIE

Age: 19 (2016)

This is when Kylie made her full transformation to the socialite fans know now.

The superstar turned up the hotness factor as she showed off a curvier look and made sure everyone saw it.

This is also when she began to overline her lips with her infamous lip-kits which sold out in a matter of seconds for years.

SEX SYMBOL

Age: 20 (2017)

The stunning beauty fully embraced her sexuality and stunning figure by the time she turned 20.

As part of her career, promotional videos for Kylie Cosmetics, and continued work on a new reality show, Life of Kylie, the star wasn’t afraid to bear all on social media.

She was seen experimenting with her look, particularly her hair, and used a range of wigs to show off a new style.

However, for half of the year, Kylie seemed to disappear from the limelight as many speculated that she was pregnant.

NEW MOM

Age: 21 (2018)

In February 2018, Kylie became a mom to daughter Stormi after keeping the pregnancy a secret for the whole nine months.

While pregnant, she had traded her tight dresses and crop tops for baggy clothes to hide her growing bump but she was back in business just weeks after giving birth.

It was also at this time that Kylie decided to dissolve her lip fillers and opt for a more natural look.

She also made it a point to show off her naturally glowy skin on social media and remove all of her extensions as she entered motherhood.

A BILLIONAIRE

Age: 22 (2019)

In 2019, Kylie was named the youngest self-made billionaire by Forbes due to her famous cosmetics line, Kylie Cosmetics.

It was also around this time that Kylie’s style was turned up a notch as she sported designer outfit after designer outfit every day.

She also passed on her style gene to her young daughter Stormi who also rocked millions of dollars in outfits and jewelry.

At this time, Kylie returned to getting lip fillers but made sure they fit her frame.

Kylie also later revealed that she had breast implants before giving birth to Stormi.

She confirmed the long-held suspicions that she got implants in a revealing conversation with her bestie Stassie Karanikolaou

Kylie, who is mother to Stormi, six, and Aire, two, said she’d gone under the knife shortly before she fell pregnant with her daughter Stormi Webster.

She explained: “You know I got my breasts done before Stormi, within six months of having Stormi, not thinking I would have a child when I was 20. They were still healing.”

But in hindsight, the 27-year-old admitted she wished she’d never had the surgery at all, saying: “I had beautiful breasts. Just gorgeous, perfect size.

“I just wish I never got them done to begin with.”

A STYLE ICON

Age: 23 (2020)

Despite the world coming to a stop due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Kylie became the highest-paid celebrity as she continued to grow her businesses and social media following.

While staying at home, Kylie made it a point to remain as glam as possible as it was revealed she was the most materialist of the Kardashian sisters.

The mom of one traveled all over the country and even to Europe despite lockdowns being enforced by all governments.

Mum Life

Age: 24 (2022)

Early in the year, Kylie announced the birth of her second child with Travis Scott in February.

But the mum had a different approach to motherhood this time, keeping her baby hidden from social media for almost a year after Aire was born.

Despite now having two children, Kylie remained looking as glamorous as ever and kept up with filler in her face.

It was later revealed in 2023 that Travis and Kylie had officially split.

Back to Basics

Age: 27 (2025)

Now, Kylie has been tied to Timothée Chalamet, and seems to have ditched her ultra-glam looks for a more natural finish.

Instead of her signature smoky eye and drawn-on brows, Kyle has opted for a more demure look, letting her natural lashes open her eyes and keeping brows natural.

At the Golden Globes, Kylie wore a vintage Versace dress once worn by Elizabeth Hurley.

The low-cut, slinky silver number features floral details and a daring backless design.

She paired the look with loose curls and opted for fresh-faced makeup using little eyeshadow, golden cheeks and nude lipstick.

Marcus Rashford ‘wanted on loan by Tottenham’ as clubs line up for Man Utd star and agent jets to Italy

TOTTENHAM are considering a shock loan move for Marcus Rashford, according to reports.

The 27-year-old has not featured in any of Manchester United‘s last six games as he eyes an Old Trafford exit.

Tottenham are believed to be keen on Marcus Rashford[/caption]

Rashford is wanted by several sides across Europe but there is also believed to be interest from closer to home.

The Daily Mail are reporting that Tottenham would like to bring him in on loan this month after The Athletic claimed an unnamed Premier League side were weighing up a bid.

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou was asked about the possibility of signing Rashford back in December and he gave little away, saying: “If I looked at everyone we were linked to, I would have no time to do anything else to be honest.

“For us, we’ve been pretty disciplined in what we’re trying to build here and we’ll continue to be so.

“You can ask me about Marcus but you can ask me about every single Premier League footballer and I’ll say the same thing.”

Spurs are looking to bolster their attacking options in Rashford’s position, having been linked with PSG star Randal Kolo Muani.

United‘s wantaway England star is also on the radar of AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund.

Rashford’s agent and brother Dwaine has reportedly flown to Italy to discuss a switch to the Serie A giants.

FOOTBALL FREE BETS AND SIGN UP DEALS

Marcus Rashford's 2024-25 Manchester United season statistics.

Any move away will supposedly depend on how much of his £325,000-a-week wages United are prepared to pay.

An option or obligation to buy could also be inserted into a deal as United are open to permanently offloading Rashford.

United could also sell Kobbie Mainoo this month amid interest from Chelsea as he is another homegrown player.

Cash raised from their sales would help ease pressure to comply with Profit and Sustainability Rules.

Rashford revealed his intention to leave United last month, saying: “For me, personally, I think I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps.

“When I leave it’s going to be, ‘No hard feelings.’

“You’re not going to have any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That’s me as a person.

“If I know that a situation is already bad I’m not going to make it worse.

“I’ve seen how other players have left in the past and I don’t want to be that person.

“When I leave, I’ll make a statement, and it will be from me.”

Nearly half of Brits eat breakfast on the job – with a third holding meetings over the most important meal of the day

NEARLY half of Brits now have a ‘working breakfast’ – with a third of these even holding meetings over the most important meal of the day.

Research of 2,000 adults found 47 per cent devote a mere 10 minutes or less to the meal.

Half of working Brits say they guzzle breakfast on the go[/caption]

A third say they eat the most important meal of the day during morning meetings[/caption]

Three quarters (76 per cent) multi-task during breakfast either with work, emails, scrolling social media feeds or sorting the kids out for school, with 12 per cent skipping it altogether.

And four in 10 grab breakfast on the go – with Gen Z the worst culprit for this, averaging three brisk brekkies a week.

The research was commissioned by Kellogg’s as part of its ‘The Great British Breakfast Audit’ to mark the launch of a new campaign ‘See you in the morning’ featuring its iconic mascot, Cornelius the cockerel, which celebrates the unique ways everyone approaches mornings.

It emerged 56 per cent eat breakfast alone, as 45 per cent of these find it difficult to sit down with their family because of their staggered starts.

While 24 per cent eat the same breakfast every single day, with cereal (38 per cent) the most common choice, 18 per cent take toast and just seven per cent regularly have a full English breakfast.

To accompany their food, Northerners are more likely to have a cup of tea, while Southerners prefer coffee.

The research also looked into morning routines, with 28 per cent hitting the snooze button two or more times every morning, rising to 60 per cent of those aged between 18 and 24.

A third (32 per cent) would skip going to the gym or making the bed (31 per cent), and 19 per cent would prefer to have an extra few minutes’ sleep than have a shower.

In fact, 35 per cent have gone more than three days without a shower to get that little bit of extra shut eye.

Despite this, 48 per cent identify as a “morning person” with men (51 per cent) more likely than women (44 per cent) to call themselves early risers.

And Londoners (58 per cent) have the highest percentage of self-proclaimed ‘morning people’.

The study also found 44 per cent feel their morning routine sets them up for success.

As a result, 25 per cent avoid social media due to its potential to negatively affect their mood and stress levels, and 21 per cent actively avoid the news because it’s too bleak.

When they do get to sit down to breakfast with their family, 23 per cent said the weather is their most frequent conversation starter, followed by discussions about current events (19 per cent) and homework (nine per cent).

But 36 per cent never speak to anyone at breakfast, and for 24 per cent the morning meal affords a ‘quiet space’ free from digital devices.

Emily Dutton, brand activation manager at Kellogg’s said: “These findings show just how unique our mornings are.

“Our Great British Breakfast Audit reveals that while some of us prefer quick and on-the-go, others rely on breakfast as peaceful ‘me’ time.

“Kellogg’s has been waking people up for 106 years – we ‘get’ mornings.

“It’s never been clearer that we all need ‘you do you’ time to start the day off right, and our audit shows that our morning habits are just as diverse as our breakfast choices.”
