2 weeks agoNews PlusComments Off on Julen Lopetegui finally SACKED by shambolic West Ham despite taking training with Graham Potter set to replace him
WEST HAM have finally SACKED manager Julen Lopetegui after just seven months in charge.
Former Chelsea boss Graham Potter is set to replace the Spaniard at the London Stadium.
Former Chelsea boss Graham Potter is set to take over[/caption]
West Ham confirmed the news in a statement that read: “The first half of the 2024/25 season has not aligned with the club’s ambitions and the club has therefore taken action in line with its objectives.
“The club can confirm that assistant head coach Pablo Sanz, head of performance Oscar Caro, head analyst Juan Vicente Peinado, fitness coach Borja De Alba and technical coach Edu Rubio have also left with immediate effect.
“The board would like to thank Julen and his staff for their hard work during their time with the Hammers and wish them every success for the future.
“The process of appointing a replacement is underway.”
Lopetegui’s time at the helm comes to an end following a shambolic week that saw him continue to take training today while his successor pens his contract.
The ex-Real Madrid and Spain boss, who replaced David Moyes in the summer, managed just six wins in 20 Premier League matches and leaves the club 14th in the table.
Defending has been a problem for West Ham, with only Wolves (45), Leicester and Southampton (both on 44) conceding more than their 39 this season.
Their already tense relationship had deteriorated and other club chiefs have been frustrated at both figures.
There was supposedly a split in the boardroom over whether to axe Lopetegui earlier in the season.
Steidten also now faces an uncertain future and his influence on the January transfer window has been diluted as owner David Sullivan takes a leading role.
The Hammers spent £127.5million in the summer window but sit just seven points above the relegation zone.
This time last year after 20 games West Ham were sixth in the league on 34 points.
Potter joins West Ham, having been out of work since he left Chelsea in April 2023, following a successful three years at Brighton.
He is looking to initially bring up to four of his own coaching staff with him, while long-term goalkeeping coach, Xavi Valero, has stayed.

Lopetegui’s West Ham nightmare
Lopetegui, 58, was close to the sack before the game at Newcastle on November 25. But an impressive 2-0 victory bought him more time.
Yet West Ham failed to push on, winning only TWO games since then – against relegation prospects Wolves and Southampton.
Fans have turned on Lopetegui, chanting “you’re getting sacked in the morning” at their own boss during the 3-1 defeat to Leicester.
His reign ended with him taking training today after axing a team bonding dinner last night.
Lopetegui is furious with how his exit has week has played out.
Away from on the pitch challenges, he has not had a trouble-free time off it.
2 weeks agoNews PlusComments Off on Major update on Premier League star accused of raping three women
A PREMIER League star accused of rape could face criminal charges after police passed his file to prosecutors.
The footballer has been accused of raping three women in separate attacks between April 2021 and February 2023.
He has not been suspended by his club while the investigation is ongoing and remains on a full salary.
It has now emerged the Met Police has passed a file of evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service, who will now weigh up whether to charge him.
The development comes after the footballer was last year interviewed under caution over an alleged sexual offence relating to a third woman.
That is alleged to have taken place in London in February 2022.
He then returned to a police station in November last year following a rape claim from a fourth woman.
The star was first held in July 2022 after police swooped on a home in North London.
His first alleged victim, in her 20s, claimed she was raped during a break in the Med in June.
She fled the five-star resort she was staying in and flew home to her friends and family, it is said.
The woman is understood to have spoken to police on her return to the UK and showed photos she claimed highlighted bruising on her body after the alleged attack.
After his initial arrest he was later re-arrested on suspicion of two more reported rapes from April and June 2021.
The June allegation was later dropped by police.
A Met Police said: “Met officers are investigating following a number of reports of alleged sexual offences between 2021 and 2023.
“A full file has been passed to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and detectives continue to work with prosecutors.
“Those who have come forward to police continue to receive support from Met officers.”
2 weeks agoNews PlusComments Off on Phil Foden quietly gaining momentum ahead of Manchester City’s double Gameweeks
WHISPER it quietly but Phil Foden (£6m) is on the rise in Dream Team.
Make no mistake, the Manchester City midfielder has been a disappointment for Dream Team managers for most of the season.
In fact, it could be argued that he has been the biggest flop compared to what he achieved last time around.
Last season, Foden outperformed Bukayo Saka (£6.6m), Cole Palmer (£6.1m), Bruno Fernandes (£6.1m) and every other midfielder as his 27-goal campaign (all competitions) resulted in a haul of prestigious individual awards.
A player to watch closely[/caption]
So far in 2024/25, he’s mustered five goals and three assists from 22 appearances, with just two goals coming in the Premier League.
In terms of Dream Team points, he’s miles off the pace of the frontrunners, 99 shy of Saka and 82 short of Palmer.
However, Dream Team bosses should monitor Foden closely as few players are able to hoover up points at such a rapid rate when everything clicks.
The England international’s current ownership of 8.4% is a far cry from the immense popularity he experienced last term but might that number increase ahead of Gameweek 19?
Foden has earned 36 points across the last three Gameweeks, making him one of the most in-form players in his position.
This fruitful burst has featured two goals, an assist and five bonus points.
It’s taken a while but Foden is climbing the rankings slowly[/caption]
His ability to consistently pick up bonus points was a feature of his incredible 203/24 campaign and he ranks tenth among midfielders in the metric this season.
Only four players have registered more accurate crosses than Foden and he wins plenty of fouls without giving many away – add in a pass completion rate of 88% plus some successful dribbles and it’s reliable recipe for bonus points.
Many gaffers will want to see a greater upturn in form before they are tempted to recruit the 24 year-old, which is rational given he’s still the joint-sixth most expensive player in the game.
But it’s a logical time to implement such a switch for those tempted.
Foden averages a goal involvement every 93 minutes in the Champions League this season[/caption]
Man City are one of just six teams with six fixtures to fulfil across the next three Gameweeks.
UPCOMING MANCHESTER CITY FIXTURES
GW19: Salford (h), Brentford (a)
GW20: Ipswich (a), PSG (a)
GW21: Chelsea (h), Club Brugge (h)
If Foden is able to maintain his current form then it would be reasonable to expect an influx of approximately 40-50 points before the end of the month, accounting for Pep Guardiola’s rotation policy.
Whether he is able to sustain his recent returns is unknowable but he should be considered a viable option at this juncture.

A FORMER Hollyoaks star has landed a new role in rival soap Coronation Street – and will feature in gritty prison scenes.
Jessica Ellis played Tegan Lomax in the Channel 4 soap from 2013 to 2018.
Former Hollyoaks star Jessica Ellis has landed a role in rival soap Coronation Street[/caption]
She will play Brie, a fellow prison inmate to Lauren Bolton[/caption]
Jessica left Hollyoaks in 2018 after five years playing Tegan Lomax[/caption]
The character was tragically killed off after being crushed by a falling tree branch during a storm.
Jessica is now swapping Chester for Weatherfield by playing Brie, Lauren Bolton’s (Cait Fitton) fellow prison inmate.
The Sun understands Jessica will star only in a guest role and will just be on screen for a few episodes in total.
Her other credits include ITVcrime drama The Bay, as well as episodes of EastEnders and Doctors.
Stars including Jamie Lomas (Warren Fox), Owen Warner (Romeo Nightingale), Jamelia (Sharon Bailey) and Stephanie Waring (Cindy Cunningham) have all bowed out of the soap.
A source said at the time: “Losing 20 cast members in one fell swoop is eye-watering and devastating news for soapland.
“In the past, Hollyoaks has seen shock stunts claim up to five lives in a single episode.
“But the days of soaps having a big cast clear-out with a devastating stunt are long gone, especially on Hollyoaks where the budget has been dramatically cut.
“The necessary death toll would make almost any stunt idea totally unbelievable.”
Viewers were initially unaware who killed the villain, with several Weatherfield residents in the frame.
By November 2024, they learned Lauren was responsible as she’d hit Joel with a rock after he tried to strangle her boyfriend, Max Turner (Paddy Bever).
Max ended up in prison after taking the blame.
Soap's biggest whodunnits
EastEnders – Who shot Phil Mitchell?
The “Who Shot Phil?” storyline was a whodunit mystery that captured the attention of viewers and the media. The episode revealing the culprit was watched by 23 million viewers. Lisa Shaw, Phil Mitchell’s former girlfriend and the mother of his child Louise, was revealed as the killer as Phil slept with Lisa’s best friend. Phil forgave Lisa, and they agreed to keep the truth a secret.
Coronation Street – Who killed Tina McIntyre ?
The popular actress Michelle Keegan played Tina McIntyre for several years on the Cobbles, but she ended up being killed by Rob Donovan in a tragic turn of events back in 2014 when he chased her onto the balcony of the Builder’s Yard. When she tried to leave, he pushed her and she fell off the roof, with Rob convinced he killed her. With Tina still alive, he attacked her with an iron bar but she survived that attack and was rushed to hospital as doctors tried to save her.
Emmerdale – Who pushed Emma Barton?
Emma was then pushed off a viaduct by Moira after she talked ill of her dead daughter Holly, who died of an overdose in October 2017. Although Moira was responsible for Emma’s death, her son, Adam Barton, took the fall for the murder since he was already a prime suspect and he didn’t want Isaac to grow up motherless.
Hollyoaks – Glove Hand Killer
The Gloved Hand Killer was a mystery serial killer, who claimed the lives of 7 characters between January and October 2015, all by injecting them with potassium chloride. The Gloved Hand Killer’s targets were all people who had done wrong in some shape or form. There were 6 suspects for who the Gloved Hand Killer was, and the killer’s identity was revealed in October 2015. It was revealed to be doctor Lindsey Butterfield who had been killing people at the hospital.
Guilty and concerned about Max’s welfare, Lauren confided in Shona Platt (Julia Goulding), who alerted David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) to the situation.
Lauren later admitted to DC Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) that she was the one who had delivered the fatal blow to Joel.
How will Lauren and Brie’s dynamic play out in prison?

A SLOW Horses star has revealed she’s taking pills daily for her immune system and shared a huge show update.
Rosalin Elezar opened up on her health after revealing she was struck down with Coronavirus four times.
The 36-year-old is also starring in brand new Netflix thriller Missing You[/caption]
The star appeared on Virgin Radio following her debut in Harlan Coben’s Netflix thriller Missing You.
But during her appearance with radio host Ryan Tubridy, Rosalin revealed her health woes.
She said: “I got absolutely whacked.”
Rosalin shocked Ryan, 51, by revealing she caught Covid-19 four times since its outbreak, leaving him asking about her immune system.
The 36-year-old replied: “Well I’m taking lots of tablets now, I’m filming season six of Slow Horses now.”
Rosalin continued: “I think with Slow Horses it’s about word of mouth, and I think that’s the best publicity.
“We also are churning them out really fast, we’ve done two seasons back-to-back.
“We started in the pandemic, in 2020 was the first season and now we’re in…2025.”
Slow Horses is based on Mick Herron’s series of novels centered around a group of disgraced MI5 agents who have been exiled to a place called Slough House.
Nicknamed “Slow Horses,” they are led by the seemingly over-the-hill Jackson Lamb (played by Gary Oldman).
However, Jackson Lamb and his team are time and time again required to show they are still capable of handling dangerous missions.
The Ryan Tubridy Show airs weekdays from 10am on Virgin Radio.
