She will be teaming up with son Aidan for a journey around Florida[/caption]

Titled Florida Unpacked, the new ten-part series for BBC Two, will follow Alison and Aidan as they make their way around all the very best that Florida has to offer on an affordable budget.

With the cost to visit Florida rising year-on-year, Alison and Aidan will be heading off the beaten track in order to find some hidden gem activities during their epic adventure.

They will dish out their money-saving tips and advise on how best to get the best bang for your buck whilst in the sun-soaked US state.

Speaking about the programme, Alison said: “Travel is in my blood. For years I worked as a tour rep following in the footsteps of my dear mum.

“This meant I was lucky and got to visit Florida from a young age.

“I was so captivated by America’s culture, food, TV shows, and films and some of my happiest memories are tied to those first formative trips to the U.S.

“We managed to budget our way to a place that totally captured our hearts… and now I can’t wait to share Florida’s best kept secrets with you all.”

The series will consist of 10 30-minute episodes with the first set to kick off on 27 January 2025.

It will also be the first full-length project for Alison with her son Aidan on-screen.

Whilst the mother-son duo have been seen on TV shows together in the past, Aidan will provide his mum with a helping hand when it comes to the fair share of presenting duties.

A synopsis to tease the series reads: “Audiences will learn how to save on dining by avoiding tourist traps and discovering local, affordable restaurants.

“Accommodation will also feature, with comparisons from luxury stays, to camping in Florida’s stunning natural settings, the series will provide inspiration for travellers of all budgets.”

It marks a move to the BBC for Alison with the star being more closely associated with ITV.

She previously appeared on the BBC Saturday night show I Can See Your Voice before it was axed after two series.

Florida Unpacked begins airing on 27 January 2025 on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer.

Alison Hammond's rise to stardom

SHE graces our televisions every Friday, as she co-hosts This Morning with Dermot O'Leary.

But just how did Alison Hammond first find fame?

2002 – Alison competed in Big Brother, and was the second housemate to be evicted . She won over viewers with moments such as when she broke the table in the garden by jumping up and down on it.

It was this year that she also started presenting for This Morning in a guest capacity.

2003 – Alison had a small acting role on TV drama Doctors.

2004 – This was the year that Alison returned to reality television, starring in shows including Celebrity Fit Club and Celebrity Stars in their Eyes – for which she performed as Nina Simone.

2010 – After several years of presenting gigs and reality show appearances, Alison was signed up to appear on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! She came in 10th place.

2014 – This was a busy year for Alison as she competed on both Celebrity Masterchef and Strictly Come Dancing, coming in 10th in the latter.

2020 – Alison appeared on The Great Stand Up to Cancer Bake Off – her first, but not last, time in the famous tent.

2021 – Alison co-hosted This Morning for three episodes alongside Phillip Schofield.

It was later announced that Alison and Dermot would be replacing Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford as presenters of This Morning on a Friday.

2023 – Alison was announced as the new co-host of The Great British Bake Off, replacing Matt Lucas to present alongside Noel Fielding.

2024 – Following the death of Paul O’Grady, Alison stepped in as host of For The Love of Dogs.

2025 – An eight-part series titled Alison Hammond’s Big Weekend will premiere on BBC one next year, as she spends 48 hours with a celebrity in a bid to really get to know them.

Luke Humphries reveals change to World Darts Championship preparations after ‘longest break’ from the sport

LUKE HUMPHRIES has revealed a big change to his preparations for the World Dart Championship after his “longest break” from the sport.

The planet’s No1 slinger is looking to defend his title at Ally Pally next month following his epic final against Luke Littler last January.

But Humphries recently suffered a shock early exit at the Grand Slam of Darts in Wolverhampton.

The ace went into the tournament as favourite after winning last year’s competition.

Yet he crashed out of the group stages with some disastrous performances.

And Humphries watched on from home as rival Littler stormed to his first-ever ranking TV title.

Pundit Wayne Mardle now reckons Littler is the man to beat at the upcoming Worlds.

But Humphries is feeling more than ready after getting to spend some time relaxing.

The ace admits he has been able to refresh mentally and physically with the longest break he’s had in over a year.

And that new style of preparation has put him in good stead to remind everyone why he is darts’ top dog.

Humphries, who defends his Darts Players Championship title this weekend, said: “I am back with some really good feelings, after obviously not being in the (knockout stages) of the Grand Slam.

“Unfortunately you can’t win everything, sometimes you have to accept an early defeat will happen in major tournaments.

“I am not going to take anything from that and am just going to go into this tournament confident that I can retain it.

“I would have loved to have been there in the final and right until the end, but it was a blessing in disguise in a way.

“It is probably the longest break I have had at home for the last 15 months.

“I have really enjoyed it and got to spend some more time with my son, who doesn’t get to see his dad as much, so I fully embraced the time at home.

“I feel nice and refreshed and am looking forward to playing darts again now.

“It has sort of been a blur over the last 15 months when you are playing week in and week out every day.

“I didn’t pick the darts up for a full week. I put them down and thought ‘no, I am just going to take a good break from it’. Now I am refreshed and ready to go again.”

These pirates sought riches at sea but Sun Bingo has treasure for landlubbers

THESE pirates have famous stories about their real exploits on the seven seas. However, Sun Bingo players can collect their gold coins on land.

On 22nd November 1718, off the coast of North Carolina, Edward Teach (better known as “Blackbeard”) was killed.

He was said to have sustained five gun shots and 20 blade wounds before succumbing to his injuries.

After his death, his head was hung from the mast and his body was thrown into the ocean.

Legend has it that it then swam three times around the ship.

Before his death, Blackbeard had secured a reputation as the most notorious pirate of the Golden Age of Piracy (approximately 1650-1720).

THIS IS SAFER GAMBLING WEEK – HERE ARE THE TOOLS THAT YOU CAN USE ON SUN BINGO TO STAY SAFE

His fear-inducing appearance reportedly included a waist-length black beard within which he would light fuses, and he carried 12 pistols.

The pirate captain maintained a fierce reputation, which included shooting his first mate just for fun.

Blackbeard is also known for collecting treasure.

When the sunken remains of his flagship, Queen Anne’s Revenge, were eventually found, it contained 250,000 artefacts.

However, Edward Teach wasn’t the only person to sail into the history books for fantastical acts of piracy.

Black Bart

Bartholomew Roberts was born in 1682. Before his death in 1722, he amassed a collection of over 470 prize ships, making him the most successful pirate during the Golden Age of Piracy.

While pirates may seemed to have been wild and unruly, Black Bart ran a tight ship.

WE’VE GOT YOUR FRIDAY DRINKS RECOMMENDATIONS SORTED

All decisions on board were made via a democratic vote, there was no fighting or gambling, treasure was shared equally and there was an 8pm curfew.

As a deeply religious man, Black Bart also refused to fight on Sundays.

Being a successful pirate has its drawbacks. The pirate accrued so much treasure that he didn’t have room for any more.

His solution was to continue raiding merchant ships, but he would then sell the ship and its cargo back to the rightful owner.

Ned Low

Captain Edward Low was active during the latter years of the Golden Age of Piracy.

His notorious reputation mainly focuses on his sadistic treatment of captives.

One captured whaling boat captain was fed his own ears, sprinkled with salt.

Ned Low never faced punishment for his piracy crimes as he was never caught.

ADD THESE TUNES TO YOUR WEEKEND PLAYLIST

Anne Bonny

While piracy was predominately a male venture, there were some female pirates that made a name for themselves.

Anny Bonny was an Irish pirate and one of Captain Jack Rackham’s most formidable crew.

She dressed in men’s clothing when raiding ships and was able to have her death sentence commuted due to being pregnant.

Zheng Yi Sao

Also known as the Chinese Pirate Queen, Zheng Yi was the most successful pirate of all time.

She commanded a fleet of 1,800 ships and 80,000 men. For comparison, Blackbeard had 4 ships and 300 men.

HAVE YOU DISCOVERED AGE OF GODS: GOD OF STORMS?

She also had strict rules for her crew, including death sentences for crew that assaulted female prisoners, tried to give orders or ignored orders given to them.

Her reign over the seas ended when Zheng Yi accepted an amnesty offer from the Chinese government.

She was allowed to keep all of her loot and many of the crew were offered military or government jobs.

GP reveals how often the average person farts – and why some people are worse than others

THOUGH we’re at pains to hide it, all of let a few trumps out throughout the day.

It goes without saying that some people are gassier than others, but have you ever wondered if you’re farting a “normal” amount?

TikToker Doctor Sooj delved into why some people are fartier than others[/caption]

An NHS doctor has gone viral on TikTok after revealing how often people tend to pass gas and why some people are worse than others.

The GP, who goes by Doctor Sooj online, said the average person is believed to fart between five to 15 times a day.

But this isn’t just a case of eating a lot of beans.

In a clip posted to this page, the 31-year-old medical professional from Hertfordshire shared that there are many reasons people could suffer from excessive farting.

“The NHS says that the average person farts between five and 15 times a day, but more than that can be normal for some people,” Doctor Sooj said in the video, which has almost 600,000 views so far.

“However, it can also be an indicator of certain conditions.

“People who have lactose intolerance or coeliac disease tend to be more flatulent than others,” the doctor explained.

If you have a lactose intolerance, you might get tummy pain, bloating and flatulence after eating dairy products like milk and cheese.

Meanwhile, coeliac disease is a condition where the immune system attacks its own tissues when gluten is consumed.

It’s found in food with wheat, barley and rye, such as pasta, bread and cake.

Your excessive tooting could also hint at other conditions too, according to Doctor Sooj.

“It can also be a sign of things like constipation, eating things that are difficult to digest and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS),” he added.

IBS is common condition that affects the digestive system, causing symptoms like stomach cramps, bloating, diarrhoea and constipation that come and go over time.

It’s often triggered by foods such as onion, garlic, beans, lentils, milk, coffee and alcohol.

Foul-smelling and hot farts could be caused by certain foods you're eating
What category do you fit in?

The doctor’s TikTok has over 7,300 likes and plenty of comments from baffled users.

Many people confessed to passing gas much more often than the NHS average.

Paul commented: “I fart about 50 times before 10am.”

Amaz added: “I farted 20 times in the AM.”

“Better out than in I say,” Ali wrote.

At the end of the day, your farts could be down to a number of things, from what you eat, to food intolerances and medication.

Sometimes their smell can tip you off to their true cause.

But the NHS does state: “Do not self-diagnose. See a GP if you’re worried about your farting.”

There are some common foods that can give you more wind than others: they include certain types of meat, as well as the UK’s favourite fried delicacy.

Foods that give you wind

It’s normal to break wind throughout the day, but some foods may be making you tootier than usual.

They include:

  • Eggs
  • Broccoli and Brussels sprouts
  • Chickpeas, lentils and beans
  • Steak
  • Chocolate
  • Ice cream
  • Onions and garlic
  • Chewing gum
  • Hard sweets

Man, 60s, arrested in connection with Creeslough tragedy released without charge as Gardai prepare file for DPP

THE MAN arrested in connection with the Creeslough explosion tragedy has been released without charge.

The man, aged 60s, was arrested yesterday after reportedly voluntarily presenting to Dundalk Garda Station at around 10am.

The man was arrested for alleged offences contrary to the Non Fatal Offences Against the Person Act 1997 in connection with the Donegal tragedy.

He has since been released without charge and gardai have said a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecution.

A spokesperson said: “The man, 60s, arrested in connection with this investigation has been released without charge.

“A file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

“The investigation into the fatal explosion at a building complex in Creeslough, Co. Donegal is ongoing, co-ordinated from Milford Garda station where an Incident Room has been established under the direction of a Senior Investigating Officer.

“The investigation continues to be led by local Gardai,, in Donegal Division supported by the Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation (GNBCI) and other agencies including the Health and Safety Authority and the Commission for the Regulation of Utilities (CRU).”

Ten people were killed when an explosion ripped through a service station in the heart of the Donegal village on October 7, 2022.

Yesterday, the families of loved ones who died in the tragedy were personally contacted by Gardai to be informed a man had been arrested in connection with the tragedy.

Heartbroken families were informed of the development just minutes after the news broke that a man, aged in his 60s, had presented himself at Dundalk Garda Station in connection with the explosion.

One family member who lost a loved one in the tragedy confirmed they had been contacted by Gardai.

The person asked not to be identified.

However they confirmed: “They rang us first thing after the news began to break.

“We were simply contacted and told that a man in his 60s had been arrested in Dundalk in connection with the investigation.

“We were not given any more information.”

The person added they are hopeful the investigation may be advanced by the latest arrest.

They said: “We are hopeful that this time there may be some kind of update in the investigation after this arrest.”

To date, there have been five arrests in connection with the explosion.

The initial four arrests of three men and one woman resulted in those who were arrested being released without charge.

All ten people who died in the explosion ranged in age from five to 59 years.

They were Robert Garwe and his five-year-old daughter Shauna Flanagan Garwe, Jessica Gallagher, Martin McGill, James O’Flaherty, Martina Martin, 14-year-old Leona Harper, Catherine O’Donnell and her 13-year-old son James Monaghan and Hugh Kelly.
