How Putin’s ‘Oreshnik’ hypersonic missile dodged Ukraine’s defences with cluster-bomb warheads – and could go NUCLEAR

RUSSIAN tyrant Vladimir Putin struck Ukraine with a hypersonic ballistic missile yesterday – a weapon that the US has warned could be made nuclear.

The medium-range “Oreshnik” rocket pierced through Ukrainian defences dropping a cluster-bomb of warheads on the city of Dnipro in an early morning blitz on Thursday.

It was initially described by Kyiv’s Air Force as the RS-26 Rubezh intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) – which would have marked the first time a weapon of its kind had been used in war.

But it turned out to be a terrifying new rocket – an intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) based on the older Rubezh model – which can travel at 10 times the speed of sound.

Addressing the country, Putin said they had used the attack on Ukraine to test Russia’s “newest missile”, an IRBM called “Oreshnik”.

Both are part of the same family as the original RS-24 Yars ICBM – a ferocious Russian weapon.

A chilling simulation video shows how these weapons would operate – with an RS-24 firing off multiple warheads in the Earth’s atmosphere before they rain down on unsuspecting territory below.

The Pentagon said that while the Oreshnik was fired with conventional warheads – Moscow could still modify the weapon to carry a nuclear payload.

“It could be refitted to certainly carry different types of conventional or nuclear warheads,” spokesperson Sabrina Singh warned.

She revealed that the move by Russia – using a never-before-fired missile – is being viewed as “experimental” in Washington.

Embattled Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky yesterday slammed the attack – dubbing it a “clear and severe escalation” by “insane” Russia.

Speaking with sickening pride of his newest weapon during a televised address on Thursday, Putin said it moved at 10 times the speed of sound.

Russian sources said it had a 5,000km range, meaning it could reach most of Europe and even the West Coast of the US if wanted.

Anatoly Matviychuk, a Russian military expert, said it could carry six to eight conventional or nuclear warheads.

Western intelligence confirmed that the weapon fired by Russia was an intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) based on the older Rubezh – not an ICBM as first expected.

The Times of Ukraine channel said that an Oreshnik could hit Britain in 20 minutes and Poland in just 12 following a Russian launch.

Putin threatened yesterday to strike Britain – marking military targets in the UK as valid targets in response to the use of Western missiles by Ukraine.

The Kremlin later said on their new missile – “Russia has demonstrated its ability to respond to Western actions by using ballistic missiles.”

Russia’s strike on Dnipro came after Kyiv launched US ATACMS missiles against Putin’s territory overnight on Monday – and British Storm Shadow rockets on Wednesday in a double-tap victory.

Chilling video showed rockets raining down on the Ukrainian city – claimed to be six different warheads.

It was reportedly fired from the Kapustin Yar test range in Russia’s Astrakhan region and struck the Yuzhmash defence plant in Dnipro.

The Kremlin also dispatched Tu-95MS strategic bombers to launch cruise missiles against embattled Ukraine.

Nato scrambled F-16 warplanes above Poland amid the barrage – putting air defence and radar systems on high alert.

Meanwhile a top Army chief told British MPs on Thursday evening that Britain would be ready to fight “tonight” if Putin strikes another country in Europe.

Lieutenant General Rob Magowan told the House of Commons defence committee: “If the British Army was asked to fight tonight, it would fight tonight.

“I don’t think anybody in this room should be under any illusion that if the Russians invaded Eastern Europe tonight, then we would meet them in that fight.”

Sunken eyes to bulldog-like features: the scary things skinny jabs do to your face and the celebs who might be victims

SINCE diabetes drugs burst onto the scene in 2022 as weight-loss tools, more and more Brits have been turning to the needle to slim down.

Celebs pioneered the movement. Sharon Osbourne lost 42 pounds using Ozempic, Kelly Clarkson used skinny jabs to get trim and even Boris Johnson gave them a go to lose five pounds a week.

Hoards of celebs have been accused of using skinny jabs to slim down but only a select few have fessed up, including 72-year-old Sharon Osbourne[/caption]

Lottie Moss was rushed to hospital after suffering a skinny jab-induced seizure, and the Kardashian-Jenner clan are unable to shake rumours that their famously large behinds were shrunk this way.

Anti-obesity and diabetes drugs, which are administered via regular injections, have quickly gone from being niche medicines prescribed by doctors to weight loss cheat codes that you can pick up online for as little as £72 a month.

Versions of the drug include the infamous Ozempic, as well as Wegovy and Mounjaro.

They contain semaglutide, an ingredient that promotes weight loss by mimicking the actions of GLP-1, a hormone released in the gut after eating, which helps you feel full and satisfied.

But skinny jabs carry a price; they could cost you your face.

The unwanted aesthetic effects of weight loss injections have even earnt their own name of “Ozempic face”.

This phenomenon is characterised by sagging skin (which have been compared to a bulldog’s chops), hollow under eyes, a distorted pout and more.

We don’t know the long-term health or physical consequences of skinny jabs because they’ve not been in circulation for long enough.

Fabulous spoke to plastic surgeon Naveen Cavale about all the dangerous things that skinny jabs like Ozempic are doing to faces – and the celebs falling victim to it.

“Ozempic-induced weight loss can reduce fat in the face,” Naveen explains.

“This might result in a thinner or less voluminous appearance, often described as ‘Ozempic face’.”

Fish Lips

Step aside ‘trout pout’, the new undesirable kisser is ‘fish lips’ caused by skinny jabs.

“Some people may notice their lips look less plump because of fat loss,” Naveen says.

“However, significant fat loss in the face may make those who have pre-existing lip fillers appear more prominent, as the surrounding soft tissue diminishes.

“This exaggerated look, sometimes called “fish lips” on social media, is not due to the medication itself, but rather to the interaction between weight loss and filler placement.”

THE FULL LIST OF CELEBRITIES WHO HAVE ADMITTED TO TAKING OZEMPIC

As weight-loss drugs gained popularity this year, the public has speculated about which celebrities are using Ozempic.

Here are the celebrities who’ve admitted to taking the drug:

  • Lottie Moss
  • Kelly Clarkson
  • Tracy Morgan
  • Stephen Fry
  • Boris Johnson
  • Jeremy Clarkson
  • Rebel Wilson
  • Amy Schumer
  • Oprah Winfrey
  • Elon Musk
  • Sharon Osbourne
  • Robbie Williams
  • Remi Bader
  • Heather Gay
  • Chelsea Handler
  • Claudia Oshry
  • Patti Stanger
  • Emily Simpson
  • Dolores Catania
  • Lauren Manzo
  • Golnesa ‘GG’ Gharachedaghi
  • Charles Barkley
  • Billie Jean King

The singer’s lips have become a hot topic following her 100lb weight loss in 2020[/caption]

Noughties singer Jessica Simpson is one celebrity that fans believe has fallen victim to the ‘fish lips’ phenomenon.

While the 44-year-old (who lost 100lb between 2019 and 2020) denied taking Ozempic in an interview with Bustle in 2023, rumours have continued swirling about her weight loss methods on social media in 2024.

And she’s slimmed down everywhere but her lips, leaving many fans asking under her Instagram posts: “What’s wrong with your lips?”

“If this occurs, adjustments like dissolving or refining fillers can restore balance,” Naveen recommends.

Naveen clarified that ‘fish lips’ can happen without the use of skinny jabs and can simply be a result of weight loss, as could be the case with Jessica.

Sunken Eyes

Another unwelcome side effect of skinny jabs is hollow-looking under-eyes.

“Ozempic can cause hollow or sunken under-eyes,” Naveen explains. “This is due to the reduction of facial fat, including the delicate fat pads beneath the eyes.

“These fat pads provide volume and cushion the area, giving a smooth and youthful appearance.

“When facial fat diminishes with rapid weight loss, the skin in the under-eye area can appear more sunken, leading to a hollow or tired look.

The 72-year-old shed 42 pounds… but has been touted as an example of Ozempic face[/caption]

“Additionally, thinner skin in this area may make blood vessels and pigmentation more visible.”

Sharon Osbourne, 72, has been touted in the media as an example of Ozempic face for the last two years, after she revealed that she lost 42 pounds through the drug.

The music manager has been open about her five facelifts over the years – including one that was botched – but her recent weight loss transformation has sparked huge intrigue about her “new face”.

Fans on X (formerly Twitter) have expressed particular concern about her “dead stare eyes”, with one lamenting that Ozempic usage has given her the appearance of them “sinking” into Sharon’s face.

Saggy Neck

Even your neck isn’t safe from skinny jabs like Ozempic. “Rapid weight loss can potentially lead to looser skin and accentuate neck bands and wrinkles,” Naveen says.

“This happens because the skin may not fully retract after fat loss, revealing laxity in the area.”

Just like her famous daughters, 69-year-old Kris Jenner has struggled to shake skinny jab rumours, with one nutritionist noting her recent weight loss has caused “significant muscle loss” around her neck.

And then the mum-of-six “used filler to offset the possible volume loss experienced by her rapid weight loss”, Rania Batayneh predicted.

Fans have accused the mum-of-six, 69, of filtering her skin on Instagram[/caption]

Social media sleuths agree with the theory, too. Some have branded Kris Jenner an “Ozempic queen” and questioned why her neck is so heavily filtered in pictures.

“No lines in her neck?” one probed last month. “Please, no one looks like that.”

“The neck don’t lie,” another critic quipped.

Kris hasn’t addressed rumours that she uses weight loss jabs, but she did admit to getting a facelift in 2011.

Bulldog Cheeks

There’s been countless studies into the phenomenon of owners and dogs looking alike. So much so, it’s now regarded as a scientific fact.

But the last thing you want is to start looking like a bulldog… especially if you don’t have one as a pet.

Unfortunately, this could be a nasty side effect from skinny jabs that is virtually impossible to reverse without going under the knife.

“Rapid weight loss from medications like Ozempic can lead to facial fat loss, particularly in the midface, resulting in a hollow or sagging appearance in the cheeks and jowl area,” Naveen explains.

“This has been referenced as ‘bulldog cheeks’ on social media and it occurs because reduced facial volume can accentuate skin laxity and gravitational pull.

“While the term is colloquial, the underlying issue is structural changes caused by the loss of fat that previously supported the face.”

THE HISTORY OF DUNNES STORES

DUNNES Stores opened its first store on Patrick Street in Cork in 1944 - and it was an instant hit.

Shoppers from all over the city rushed to the store to snap up quality clothing at pre-war prices in Ireland’s first ‘shopping frenzy’.

During the excitement, a window was forced in and the police had to be called to help control the crowds hoping to bag founder Ben Dunne’s ‘Better Value’ bargains.

Dunnes later opened more stores in the 1950s and began to sell groceries in 1960 – starting with apples and oranges.

The retailer said: “Fruit was expensive at the time and Ben Dunne yet again offered Better Value than anyone else in town.

“Over time, our food selection has grown and that spirit of good value has remained strong.

“Now we offer a wide range of carefully-sourced foods from both local Irish suppliers and overseas.”

The retailer’s first Dublin store opened its doors in 1957 on Henry Street and a super store on South Great Georges Street was unveiled in 1960.

They added: “In 1971, our first Northern Irish store opened, and many others soon followed.

“Expansion continued in the 1980s in Spain, and later into Scotland and England.”

Dunnes now has 142 stores and employs 15,000 people.

Dunnes bosses shared: “Designed in a satin finish, this mini dress from Savida is a stunning choice for the upcoming party season.

“Capturing attention with every step, it features a zip fastening on the back and creates a flattering, feminine silhouette.”

And Sarah’s followers flooded the comments with their shock at Dunnes newest range.

One fan commented: “Okay.. love everything here.”

While another shared: “The leopard print trend has me in a chokehold.”

Dad creates a brutal flowchart to stop family turning up the thermostat but people admit they’d ‘cry’ if they saw it

A DAD has left people “crying” after sharing the brutal flowchart he made to stop his family turning up the heating.

Amid the cost of living crisis, we’re all looking for ways to keep energy bills down.

Some people admitted they’d “cry” if they were met with such a note[/caption]

And as the temperature gets even colder outside, it’s even more tempting to whack up the thermostat.

But one dad is doing his best to encourage his family to try out other ways to keep warm before resorting to turning the heating up.

In the flowchart, attached to the front of the thermostat, he had written “Before turning heating on, do you…”

He’d then listed the options on the left, writing in bullet points: “Have socks on, long sleeve shirt, underwear/pants, see your breath”.

If they’d answered yes, yes, yes, no, he’d pointed them to a note insisting there’s “no heat needed”.

However, if they answered no, no, no, yes, or “any other combo”, he angrily told them to “get dressed”.

The thermostat was shown as being set to 70 degrees Fahrenheit, which is 21 degrees Celsius.

One person took to TikTok to share the viral snap, writing above it: “The dad has spoken!”

And the comments section was almost immediately filled with people weighing in, as some admitted they’d break down in tears if they were met with such a note on the heating control.

“I would cry. I’m always cold!” one admitted.

“Lol I wouldn’t listen to no-one, let alone my husband,” another insisted.

“If my kids or myself are cold, the heating is going on.”

“I know someone who has a baby and doesn’t turn on the heat… the baby already had pneumonia and he’s not even 3 months old,” a third shared.

“We grew up with a parent like that,” someone else sighed.

“When you are on your own you do the exact opposite!”

“I have a family of 7 and never have this problem,” another wrote.

4 ways to keep your energy bills low

Laura Court-Jones, Small Business Editor at Bionic shared her tips.

1. Turn your heating down by one degree

You probably won’t even notice this tiny temperature difference, but what you will notice is a saving on your energy bills as a result. Just taking your thermostat down a notch is a quick way to start saving fast. This one small action only takes seconds to carry out and could potentially slash your heating bills by £171.70.

2. Switch appliances and lights off

It sounds simple, but fully turning off appliances and lights that are not in use can reduce your energy bills, especially in winter. Turning off lights and appliances when they are not in use, can save you up to £20 a year on your energy bills

3. Install a smart meter

Smart meters are a great way to keep control over your energy use, largely because they allow you to see where and when your gas and electricity is being used.

4. Consider switching energy supplier

No matter how happy you are with your current energy supplier, they may not be providing you with the best deals, especially if you’ve let a fixed-rate contract expire without arranging a new one. If you haven’t browsed any alternative tariffs lately, then you may not be aware that there are better options out there.

“Nobody turns the heating on, most never complain about the cold, it’s standard on 15 degrees.

“We turn it on an hour a day approximately.”

To which someone else wrote: “Omg. I would literally freeze!

“My brother is like this, now he has damp cos he doesn’t put heating on!”

However, others said the dad was perfectly within his rights to put the note up.

“70 is 21,1°C. So that’s warm enough. No need to go any higher,” one said.

“Why is it in every household it is only the dad that has this sense?” another questioned.

As a third said it was “absolutely correct”, adding: “Why do people turn the heating up before putting clothes on?”
