Nintendo adds free Donkey Kong classic to the Switch Online library and it’s out now

NINTENDO Switch Online is one of the best-value subscription services with almost 300 classic games to play.

One year of Nintendo Switch Online costs the same as just a month of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or PS Plus Premium.

The catch is that Switch Online only includes older games from the NES era all the way up to the N64.

Despite the age of these games, Nintendo is known for its incredible library, with series like Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, and Pokémon.

One of the best things about Nintendo Switch Online is that games are only added to the service and never removed.

This is in contrast to Game Pass and PS Plus, which remove games every month when they add new ones.

Nintendo has just added a new game to Nintendo Switch Online that is from one of its most popular series.

Donkey Kong Land is the second Donkey Kong game that was released for the Game Boy, and was developed by Rare, which notably made the Donkey Kong Country games.

It is considered one of the best games on the Game Boy, and has a similar look to the Donkey Kong Country series.

While it is based on Donkey Kong Country, it has new levels and boss fights giving a bit extra for Donkey Kong fans.

If you want to try out Donkey Kong Land for yourself, you can do so with a basic Nintendo Switch Online subscription.

You can then download the Game Boy app from the Nintendo eShop on your Switch console.

When you open the app, you can then select Donkey Kong Land and you’ll be able to play.

Go Bananas

The vast majority of games added to Nintendo Switch Online are classics that hold up to this day, but there are some misses.

Donkey Kong Land still stands up as one of Nintendo’s greats, and is a fantastic addition to the service.

If you’ve already finished the Donkey Kong Country games, then this is the next stop on your gaming journey.

Heartache as mum of girl, 6, injured in Parnell Square stab attack gives ‘only time will tell’ health update

THE family of the youngster who was injured in Parnell Square in Dublin last year have issued a fresh update ahead of the first anniversary.

The little girl was only five-years-old at the time of the incident on November 23 last year and was left in critical condition.

In the year following the attack, the now six-year-old’s family have been sharing regular updates on her condition through a GoFundMe – which has raised over €115,000.

Recalling the horrific day, the girl’s family said they no longer want to think of it as a tragedy, but rather a time of “rebirth”.

They said: “This Saturday marks one year since the incident. I guess calling it an incident is as good a word as any.

“Others come to mind, but we don’t wish to remember the tragedy. We choose rebirth, triumph, resilience.

“Don’t get me wrong, I experience at least a dozen different emotions throughout the day as I think of her, pass by some spot in town which held significance to us, sing ‘All my Loving’ to get a smile out of her. It is tough.”

In the year passing, while so many changes have occurred for the youngster, the family said she still keeps a smile on her face.

They revealed that despite being so young, she has had to learn patience and a new way of understanding.

They also noted that as parents, they too have had to “relearn” a different type of parenting.

They continued: “So much has happened, and our little girl has endured so much, yet she still manages to bolster a smile, even when crying.

“Granny says she doesn’t know if she laughs or if she cries. Me and my husband have had to relearn how to be a parent.

“It is different parenting altogether. And she has had to relearn being a child, with extreme limitations.

“She cannot move or communicate as she used to, so she has to understand the meaning of patience. It takes a lot out of her to lift her arms, but she is a warrior and she does it.”

‘THE HOME STRETCH’

Through various different medical examinations over the last year, it has become clear that the girl knows what is going on around her despite being unable to communicate.

They said: “We strongly believe, despite medical assessments and reports, that she understands everything we say to her. She, like most 6-year-old’s, chooses what she wishes to acknowledge.

“We are on the home stretch for home. We get to make our schedule and allow your pace to dictate activities. 2025 will be a brand new experience, another one we will also have to adapt to.

“She has made great progress, and we don’t wish her to stop. Only time will truly tell.

“Some people with acquired brain injuries have still shown change and improvement up to 10 years later. We’ve got time.”

‘HUG YOUR LOVED ONES’

The family have also thanked the school staff there that day and everyone who has sent support over the last year.

They added: “It is a lot to take in, for all of those involved, the children, the parents, the school staff.

“I would like to thank everyone for the love and support over these 12 months. Hug your loved ones extra tight.”

Following the incident, the girl was initially admitted to the ICU at Temple Street Children’s Hospital.

Along with two other children and their carer, all four victims were taken to hospital from their school Colaiste Mhuire at Parnell Square in Dublin.

The young girl was taken out of ICU just before Christmas last year but was readmitted in January after a “bump in the road” disrupted her recovery.

‘The girl band we needed’ jokes Sharlene Mawdsley as she settles in to new life with London teammates

SHARLENE MAWDSLEY joked she had joined “the girl band we needed” as she settles into life with her new teammates in London.

Mawdsley relocated to London in order to train with a new athletics team, having previously been coached by Olympian Gary Ryan.

She made time for a short stop at her old stomping ground of Templemore Athletics Club

On Thursday, she was tagged in a photo shared to Instagram by new teammate Laviai Nielsen.

The photo depicts Mawdsley chatting away with Laviai and Lina Nielsen, and Amarachi Pipi.

The Olympic, World, and European medallist said: “a track & yap session hates to see us coming #bettertogether”

In response, Irish Olympian Mawdsley reposted the photo to her Instagram Story, calling the quartet “the girl band we needed”.

Prior to making the short trip across the bond, the Tipperary-native returned to her old stomping ground of Templemore Athletics Track for training on a cold winter’s morning.

The 26-year-old revealed her reasoning for switching to the UK in a social media post at the time.

In a reflective Instagram post she set out: “Post-Olympics I decided I wanted to try something new…so I’ve started something new.

“I have decided to move training group to train with coach Tony Lester.

“I am very excited for this chapter of my career and I feel extremely lucky to be training with some really talented and like-minded people.

“I am very thankful for Gary who coached me the past number of years.

“I enjoyed my time under his guidance whilst he showed me his knowledge and expertise and helped me get to the biggest stages in our sport.

“I am also extremely grateful to my team and my loved ones who have supported me through this decision and continue to do so every single day.

“I’m excited to see what we can do together.”

In a follow-up snap, she can be seen in a gym with her new training partners.

She captioned it: “Train and yap…heavy on the yap.

“My new training group. First day training with the girls and it already felt like I’ve been her for months.”

All will become clear in time but such a significant change-up may indicate she’s set to follow through on an aspiration she voiced in a chat with SunSport last month.

The sprinter explained that she was keen to test the waters at 400m hurdles – with a view to potentially making that her event for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.

CHANGING IT UP

In October she outlined that she was considering a switch to the discipline for next season, for which she had already secured the World Championships qualifying time for the 400m.

Mawdsley told SunSport: “I have the standard for Tokyo so that’s definitely something I can look forward to.

“And I think in the next few months I can maybe try new things that I haven’t already done before and see if it works out or not because there’s obviously time to play with between now and the next Olympics so I think that will be nice.

“When you’re so close to an Olympics, you kind of stick to what you know so it will be interesting to see if we can change a few things in the next few months and see where we go from there.

“I would love to try the 400 hurdles. I don’t know if my coaches are going to agree to that but I’d love to try and see if I was any good.

“I used to do sprint hurdles when I was younger and I used to swap my legs so I suddenly think I can magically run 400 hurdles but we’ll see.”

Asked if she had discussed it with her coaches, she said: “No! This is the exclusive.

“I have said for the last few years that I would like to try the 400 hurdles because the 400 is mentally so tough.

“And I thought if I had 10 barriers in my way I’d always be thinking of the next thing so maybe psychologically it might be a little bit easier but physically it might be a little bit harder.”

But his girlfriend Anna Kalinskaya was nowhere to be seen, and instead spent her weekend on a beach in Miami.

Sinner and Kalinskaya no longer follow each other on Instagram with reports claiming the tennis power couple have taken a break.

Now it has been claimed Sinner’s ex-girlfriend Maria Braccini was in the stands for his ATP Finals victory.

Eyewitnesses told Südtirol News that they saw the Italian influencer at the match.

Sinner and Maria dated on and off for around three years but have not been seen together since November 2023.

She visited Paris earlier this month when Sinner was scheduled to be playing in the Paris Masters, but he had to withdraw due to illness.

Sinner and Kalinskaya shared a kiss after he won the US Open in September but are said to be spending time apart so they can “better understand their relationship and future“.

He also shared some cold comments, saying: “Having a girlfriend is something that makes you feel good or makes you feel bad.

Terrifying clip shows what it’s like to be EATEN by a shark – before it spits you out onto seafloor

FOOTAGE of a tiger shark gobbling up an iPhone has given viewers a small glimpse at what it might look like to be eaten alive.

The predator chomped on the iPhone – which had fortunately been in a waterproof case – after it had been accidentally dropped in the water.

Tourists were observing a feeding session from a boat in the Bahamas, the Telegraph reported.

Mistaking the iPhone for a snack, one shark gnawed the device into its jaws – showing off the lining of its mouth ribbed with gills.

The shark swiftly spat out the handset before it passed down through its gullet.

iPhone owner Dave Finch was filming the excursion operated by Dolphin Dream Team.

His friend, Ken Kiefer, an underwater photographer, was working with him on the shark tour.

“This devious girl – known by some as Jitterbug and by others as Buttface – grabbed Finch’s camera and was trying to get some selfies,” Kiefer wrote in a Facebook post.

“She grabbed it. Then chewed, dropped, grabbed again and dropped.”

Tiger sharks, which can grow up to 25ft long, are known to be unfussy eaters, as well as voracious predators.

They are the second largest predatory shark species after the great white.

These predators feast on a wide variety of marine prey, such as crabs, shellfish, lobsters, squid, bony fish, small sharks, skates, rays, porpoises, turtles.

Though they have also been known to chomp at marine birds and some land-walking mammals.

The beautiful species, known for their black stripes, can be found in tropical and sub-tropical waters.

Norfolk Island, a former Australian penal colony, has become a haven for tiger sharks, in a revelation that has baffled scientists.

Tiger sharks found off Norfolk Island in the South Pacific are growing an average of two feet longer than those on the Great Barrier Reef.
