The awards celebrate the best of the country’s accommodation sector, food and drink, outdoor experiences and visitor attractions.

A total of 19 gongs were presented across 15 regional categories, three national categories and the special Silver Thistle Award.

And The Cross Keys Inn, in Ettrickbridge, Scottish Borders, scooped the Best Pub or Bar award, sponsored by SLTA.

Giving their verdict, the Thistle Awards judges said: “The Inn has shown real commitment to developing the business with new ventures including the addition of a new beer garden and outdoor pizza oven facility which has more than doubled the capacity for dining in the peak summer months with the aim of attracting a different market of visitors that are staying in the area.

“The collaboration with local cycle guides to develop various cycle routes starting and finishing from Ettrickbridge with the intention of promoting the area as a destination are commendable.

Caoimhin Kelleher set for dream Liverpool start vs Champions League giants as Arne Slot gives Alisson injury update

CAOIMHIN KELLEHER is in line to start for Liverpool in their Champions League clash against Real Madrid.

The Republic of Ireland international has held down the fort in the absence of regular No1 Alisson.

The Brazilian has been out of action with a hamstring injury since October, with Kelleher filling in commendably since.

Alisson is nearing a return to the fold, but in an update, Liverpool manager Arne Slot revealed that he is still a little ways away from full fitness.

He said: “We are careful with everyone, especially when it comes to muscle injuries.

“He is back training with his goalie coach, not yet with the team, but expected to return soon.”

As a result, Kelleher is all-but certain to retain the jersey for the Premier League meeting with Southampton this weekend.

And a more intriguing possibility is the Corkman retaining his place for the visit of Real Madrid to Anfield in the Champions League.

The Merseyside club host Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Jr and co when Los Blancos make the trip next Wednesday.

Testing his wits against some of the best of the world would prevent Kelleher with the chance to further bolster his reputation.

The 25-year-old did just that during the most recent international break.

He earned plaudits for his performance in Ireland’s 1-0 win over Finland, with his second-half penalty save preserving the three points.

His showings for club and country lend further credence to the view of John Aldridge, who argued that Kelleher should keep his place even when Alisson is back.

He told SunSport via Netbet Online Casino: “It’s not the first time.

“People tend to forget he has done this time and time again over the last few years and he has never let the side down.

“He has been absolutely quality. I can’t speak highly enough of him.

“He has been impeccable. He should have been in the Irish team a long time ago.

“When he was young in gaelic football or whatever, you can see he is good on the ball and that is what you have got to be in present day football goalkeeping.

“He is cool, calm, and collected, a bit like James Bond, to be fair, when he is on the ball.

“I just think at this present moment in time what he has done, it is hard but he has got to keep his place ahead of Alisson for me.

“Alisson is right up there with the best goalkeepers in the world and in some quarters the best goalkeeper in the world but I think this is a time when the manager has got to be honest and say, ‘look, I can’t fault you.’ “

Sir Alex Ferguson reveals Ryan Giggs would have ended up playing for MAN CITY if it wasn’t for Man Utd steward

SIR ALEX FERGUSON says Ryan Giggs was his first big win over Manchester City.

Fergie’s dismissive taunt about the “noisy neighbours” after the Abu Dhabi takeover has gone down in football history.

But the former United boss told Tony Pulis in Sky’s “Chasing the Dream” documentary that prising Welsh wizard Giggs out of City’s clutches was a key moment in his Old Trafford success story.

Ferguson recalled: “At United, our first-team squad there were quite a few over 30.

City were getting all the best young players at the time, absolutely. They would win the Youth Cup.

“We had to put a stop to that, so we increased the scouting and worked really hard at that, particularly in Manchester.

“We got the Phil and Gary Neville, Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt. David Beckham was the only one from down south.

“With Ryan Giggs, we had a steward at the club who came to me and said ‘there’s a young boy training at City, but he’s a United fan. You need to get hold of him.’

“We got him down the training ground right away, they played a practice match against Viv Anderson, and Viv was screaming: ‘Can I kick him? Can I tackle him?’

And I said: ‘Don’t you dare touch him! He’s only 14.’”

Giggs and Co were part of the group known as “Fergie’s Fledglings” when they broke into the first team squad.

The Scot added: “When you get a gem like Giggs or Scholes, it’s staring you in the face.

“Scholes was an incredibly young player. You get diamonds like that, whereas Beckham was a late developer..

“The Nevilles – always hard working, always making great sacrifices to be footballers.

“Nicky Butt – determined young lad, always going to make it.

“You have a responsibility too, to give them the right guidance, to be strong in terms of the path you’re taking them through.

“Playing for Manchester United, playing in front of 75,000, playing in cup finals, playing for your country – these are all the stepping stones that you’re guiding them for.”

What Man Utd said on hiring EACH of their post-Fergie managers

David Moyes

“All the skills needed to build on United’s phenomenal legacy.”

Louis van Gaal

“One of the outstanding managers in the game today.”

Jose Mourinho

“Quite simply the best manager in the game today.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

“A wealth of experience, with a desire to give young players their chance and a deep understanding of the culture of the club.”

Erik ten Hag

“One of the most exciting and successful coaches in Europe.”

Ruben Amorim

“One of the most exciting and highly rated young coaches in European football.”
