Rangers ‘interested in signing Serbia international who could be available for FREE’

RANGERS have reportedly added a Serbian international to their January transfer shortlist.

Philippe Clement is on the hunt for a new defender this month with several of Rangers‘ first team players on the sidelines for tonight’s clash against Dundee.

And CSKA Moscow star Sasa Zdjelar, who is primarily a defensive midfielder but can play as a centre-back, is believed to be one of the targets the manager is looking at.

Zdjelar, 29, could be available on a free transfer after Fifa granted foreign players the right to end their contracts with Russian clubs due to the ongoing war in Ukraine.

The Daily Mail claim he is on the Light Blues’ radar and reports from Russia suggest the Ibrox club have enquired about his availability this month.

Zdjelar, who has been capped nine times for Serbia, currently earns £15,000 a week after tax so he is in Gers’ price range.

However, it is also suggested they could face a battle for his signature as German clubs are also interested.

The 29-year-old has an impressive CV having started his career in his homeland with OFK Beograd before joining Greek giants Olympiacos in 2015 and then returning to Serbia with Partizan in 2018.

He also spent time on loan at Mallorca from Olympiacos before heading to Partizan on a short stint in January 2018 ahead of making the move permanent in the summer.

Zdjelar lifted the Greek title while in Piraeus and won the Serbian Cup twice with Partizan – scoring the winner in the 2018 final to round off his loan spell.

During his time at Partizan – where he was captain – Zdjelar played alongside former Rangers flop Umar Sadiq and even scored a screamer for the Serbian giants during their 4-0 win over rivals Vojvodina – thanks to an assist from the Nigeria international.

The versatile player is a household name in his homeland despite only making nine senior appearances for the country as he played in the Under-20s squad that won the 2015 World Cup.

His form in Serbia earned him his move to CSKA and he picked up further silverware as he helped his side win the Russian Cup in the 2022/23 season.

Zdjelar hasn’t played in any continental competitions since that move after Russian clubs were banned from competing in Europe.

But he made 45 appearances in Europe before then – featuring in the Champions League with Olympiacos and Europa League and Conference League at Partizan.

He would bring great experience to Clement’s squad should he join but it is believed the manager would prefer to bring in younger players this month.

Zdjelar’s contract runs out at CSKA this summer but the club do have the option to extend his deal by a further year if the player does not wish to cut ties early due to Fifa’s contract ruling.

Embarrassment for Keir Starmer as Andy Burnham calls for rape gangs inquiry

LABOUR’S Andy Burnham has demanded a national inquiry into child rape gangs in open defiance of Sir Keir Starmer.

The Manchester mayor tonight broke with his party to call for a new probe into the grooming scandal.

His intervention piled more pressure on the PM after he blocked a Conservative attempt to force an investigation.

Despite ordering his MPs to vote down the Tory bid, Sir Keir, his deputy Angela Rayner, Chancellor Rachel Reeves, Foreign Secretary David Lammy and Health Secretary Wes Streeting were all absent.

Downing Street blamed diary clashes and insisted the Cabinet Ministers had not ducked the vote to avoid the public backlash.

Mr Burnham attacked Tory “opportunism” but called on the Government to launch a probe for the sake of victims.

He told the BBC: “I will add my voice into this and say I do think there is the case for a limited national inquiry that draws on reviews like the one that I commissioned, and the one we have seen in Rotherham, the one we have seen in Telford, to draw out some of these national issues and compel people to give evidence who then may have charges to answer and be held to account.”

Mr Burnham said the flaw with local inquiries – which Sir Keir has proposed – is the inability to force witnesses to appear. He admitted: “That is something I couldn’t do at my level.”

Tory Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp said politicians and officials who hushed up child rape gangs for years must face their “day of reckoning”.

He told The Sun’s Never Mind The Ballots show: “I want to know who covered this up.

“I want to know who failed these victims by being negligent, by disbelieving their accounts. I want to see a day of reckoning for those people who did not do their job properly.”

He admitted Elon Musk’s relentless social media posts had “raised the salience” of the horrors by largely Pakistani-heritage men that shook northern towns.

A No10 spokesman said: “We will be guided by the victims, and what we’ve heard from the victims is that they don’t want to see another national inquiry.”

Feared Japanese Yakuza gang boss in ‘brazen’ NUCLEAR plot to traffic ‘weapons-grade’ plutonium & surface-to-air missiles

A YAKUZA boss was plotting to traffic plutonium nuclear materials and several heavy-duty weapons to be used in wars.

Takeshi Ebisawa, 60, has been found guilty of transporting the lethal materials from Myanmar as part of a global web of illegal activity.

The feared crime leader now faces decades in prison after being charged in February 2024.

Ebisawa “brazenly trafficked nuclear material, including weapons-grade plutonium,” acting US attorney for the Southern District of New York Edward Y Kim said.

A year later, he also worked to send over massive quantities of drugs to the US, such as heroin and methamphetamine in exchange for weaponry.

In a New York court on Wednesday, the Japanese nation pled guilty to conspiring with a network of associates to traffic the nuclear materials out of Myanmar.

He also admitted to international narcotics trafficking and weapons charges.

The plan was uncovered by a daring Drug Enformacement Administration (DEA) investigation in 2021.

Ebisawa tried to sell the materials to someone he believed was an Iranian general who wanted them for a nuclear weapons program, the department said in a statement.

During the operation, Ebisawa unknowingly introduced an undercover US DEA agent to his “international network of criminal associates”.

This spanned Japan, Thailand, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and the US, court documents reveal.

From this DEA agent, the guilty conspired to buy US-made surface-to-air missiles and other heavy-duty weaponry in exchange, in part, for drugs.

It was also noted that he repeatedly attempted to sell the agent 500kg of methamphetamine and heroin for New York distribution.

Ebisawa began contact in early 2020, telling the undercover agent that he had access to a “large quantity of nuclear materials” that he wanted to sell, court papers said.

Prosecutors said that the nuclear material came from an unidentified leader of an “ethnic insurgent group” in Myanmar.

The attempted smuggler sent photos of the substance with Geiger counters measuring radiation.

These pictures were accompanied by pages of what he claimed was lab analysis proving the radioactivity of the material.

The agent went along with the deal, and Ebisawa’s plan eventually unravelled as he was arrested in an operation involving US, Indonesian, Japanese and Thai authorities.

His sentencing has been set for April 9.

Myanmar, formerly known as Burma, has been embroiled in a civil war since February 2021 when the Southeast Asian nation’s military ousted the democratically elected government.

The country boasts large amount of rare-earth materials vital for civilian and military technology, including uranium.

This has made Myanmar a hotspot for transnational crime.

Katie Price fans share fears for star after weight loss as she shows off very slim frame in new video

KATIE Price has sparked fan fears with a new video showcasing her slim figure.

The 46-year-old glamour model and media star modelled a cropped tracksuit from her JYY London range on Instagram in a new video.

The star, 46, modelled a tracksuit on Instagram which showed her tiny waist

But viewers were distracted by Katie’s appearance and believe she’s taken her body transformation a bit too far.

One person said: “She needs help.”

Another concerned fan urged: “Wake up and stop the surgery…”

A third said: “Omg Katie what the hell have u done u where stunning my idol back in the day your ruined yourself so sad.”

A fourth wrote: “Katie used to be stunning, an inspiration in her time, but not only have you gone way to far with the weight crap but the only thing that facelift done was make you look like a frail old woman.”

Back in October Katie, who underwent a facelift and 17th boob job last year, assured fans her slim frame was due to a new gym regime and not weight loss drugs like Ozempic.

A spokesman for her told the Mail: “Katie has always been tiny and she’s recently been enjoying going to the gym more and getting herself into a routine with exercise etc which has been beneficial for her overall well being.”

Meanwhile, Katie and her MAFS UK star boyfriend JJ Slater, 32, recently sparked speculation their relationship was over after it was reported they spent Christmas apart.

The pair attempted to put on a united front as they headed out together for the Geordie Shore series launch this week, but we revealed that they were “frosty” with each other and spent most of the night apart.

An insider told us: “Katie and JJ arrived separately to Geordie Shore launch and didn’t speak at all for a few hours.

“They were with their own friends on separate sides of the room and were really frosty with each other.

“They did finally speak for about five minutes later in the night, took a few pictures together and then left. It was all very bizarre and it’s clear that they aren’t at their best right now.

“They are clearly trying to make things work in some way and haven’t called it quits yet, but the signs don’t look good.”

A rep for Katie told The Sun: “They are 100% still together.”

Mum-of-five Katie confirmed her relationship with JJ in February last year following weeks of speculation.

However they raised eyebrows over the festive period when Katie chose to spend with with close pal Kerry Katona.

And JJ posted a picture of his Christmas celebrations with his family – with Katie noticeably absent.
