‘I wish I’d kept my mouth shut’ – Ronnie O’Sullivan admits regret over furious Snotgate row with snooker rival

RONNIE O’SULLIVAN has some regrets over his part in last year’s Snotgate row with Ali Carter, admitting: Maybe I should have been more diplomatic.

The Rocket, 49, won a record-extending eighth Masters crown in January 2024 following a 10-7 victory over Carter, 45, in the final.

An explosive war of words occurred in the respective post-match press conferences, which was broken by SunSport the next day.

Carter alleged O’Sullivan cleared his nose – like a long-distance runner might do – on to the carpet while sitting in his chair during the final frames.

The Captain claimed the sport’s greatest player was “snotting all over the floor” and labelled it as “outrageous behaviour from a top professional”.

In response, O’Sullivan launched a furious X-rated rant, stuck up his middle finger in protest and stormed out of his press conference with family and friends trailing behind.

The seven-time world champion said: “He can sit on it as far as I’m concerned. I don’t give a f***.

“F***ing why has he got issues with me? I’m not having it. I don’t care, grow some balls. I don’t give a f***.

“The more he brings it on, the more I f***ing punish him every time. Absolutely. He’s just digging a grave for himself. He needs to sort his f***ing life out.”

A year on, and in preparation for his Masters defence this weekend, O’Sullivan was asked for his reflections of that episode, especially as they have met across the table since then.

Asked if he could laugh about it all now, the Essex cueing maestro replied: “Yeah. It’s just heat of the moment stuff. If I feel like I’ve got to say something I’ll say it.

“It’s nothing personal, just heat of the moment stuff. He’s entitled to say what he’s got to say, like I am.

“Do I regret saying it? Probably.

“I wish I’d kept my mouth shut and been a bit more polished with my answers, a bit more diplomatic.

“But I’ve said what I’ve said and that’s fine. It’s only words innit?

“He goes back to his life, his family and I do. We only have to meet on the table, it’s not like we’re best mates but it’s fine, we’re both pretty grown up.”

O’Sullivan meets John Higgins – a fellow Class of ‘92 graduate – in the first round on Sunday afternoon over the best of 11 frames.

It’s nothing personal, just heat of the moment stuff. He’s entitled to say what he’s got to say, like I am.

Yet he is not in great form and on Wednesday, he lost three out of four matches on his first appearance in this season’s Championship League Snooker.

On Thursday, he whacked the table with his cue in anger after losing 3-2 to Robert Milkins and then withdrew in disgust before facing Carter in a final group match.

It was reported that he threw his cue into the bin as his worries on the table continue.

Inside Ronnie's colourful career

FROM his lightning breaks to blasts at officials, Ronnie O'Sullivan has fired snooker into the spotlight.

The seven-time world champion makes almost as big an impact away from the table as on it.

O’Sullivan has three children – two daughters and a son.

And the Rocket’s on-off relationship with British actress Laila Rouass has also hit the headlines.

He has opened up on battles with his weight and addiction.

While the controversial cueist reckons he wasted NINE YEARS of his career by partying too hard.

Despite being worth £14million, O’Sullivan is renowned for his love of canal boats and snubbing flashy cars.

His rivalry with fellow star Judd Trump has been branded ‘snooker’s greatest feud’.

And Ali Carter had his nose knocked out of joint by the Rocket in their infamous ‘Snotgate’ row.

Ferne McCann feeling ‘sexy again’ with ‘a bum like Kim Kardashian’ thanks to Dancing On Ice after giving birth to baby

FERNE McCann is feeling body confident again after giving birth to her second daughter Finty – thanks to her stint on Dancing On Ice.

The former Towie star is set to hit the ice this weekend for the show’s highly-anticipated launch, but says it’s not just her skating skills that have been transformed.

Speaking to The Sun before her debut, Ferne said: “You’re constantly in this little squat position, so everyone talks about the ice skating bum!

“There was one point where we filmed one of our tricks, and I was like, hang on a minute, like zoomed in on my booty.

“Like, whoa, wait a minute, it’s like a shelf! I’m giving Kim Kardashian a run for her money!”

The mum-of-two added: “(The show) is a physical challenge and I love that.

“Like, I love something that motivates and incentivises me. I mean, it’s a sport.

“So it’s been a fantastic challenge, and yeah, a bonus if you get a nice ice skating bod at the end of it. Everyone’s a winner.”

The skating star hasn’t just been wowing fans with her newfound physique – she’s also balancing training with motherhood.

Ferne revealed she’s still breastfeeding daughter Finty, after welcoming the tot with fiancé Lorri Haines in 2023.

Speaking as she posed for snaps at the ITV ice studios, Ferne said: “I can’t believe it. I am even shocked myself.”

“I tell you what. It’s a great wardrobe team because they are snatching these (points at boobs) like right back.”

With her confidence back and her skates on, Ferne is ready to dazzle on Dancing On Ice alongside partner Brendyn Hatfield.

And Brendyn’s girlfriend, former S Club 7 star Rachel Stevens, has been offering some sweet words of encouragement.

Rachel, who skated on the show herself in 2022, has been in touch with Ferne to share some support.

“She was so sweet,” Ferne revealed. “She sent me a really nice message. It wasn’t so much advice, but more of like support, and good luck with the show and everything like that.”

Brendyn added that Rachel has been a huge cheerleader during the demanding Dancing On Ice schedule.

“They’ve been in touch,” he said.

“I don’t know if she’s coming to the first show or like the next one or whatever, but she has to be supportive on my end too because I’m like, ‘I’m gonna be gone for 12 hours (training)!’”

Meanwhile, Ferne said Lorri has been her rock, as she juggles training with family life.

She previously admitted the relationship can be tough, after they were forced to deny they had split.

But Ferne, who has daughter Sunday from a previous relationship, said: “This is gonna be a full family affair.

“I wouldn’t be able to do this show without my family.

“The logistics of everything, like, even today and getting the baby sorted – Finty waking up at 5am.

“I just said to Lorri, normally we sort of leave her to resettle, but I was like, just go!

She went on: “Like it’s insane. I said to Lori this morning I was like, just don’t get her before I get up. I had a 6am pick up and I was like, let’s just make it happen.

“So really everyone is (there for me) and like making it happen.”

Dancing On Ice starts Sunday at 6.30pm, live on ITV1, ITVX, STV, STV Player.

IT worker whose ex tossed £635MILLION worth of Bitcoin into landfill loses decade-long battle to retrieve fortune

AN IT worker whose ex-partner chucked £635million worth of Bitcoin away by accident has finally lost the decade-long battle to get it back.

James Howells, 39, had 8,000 Bitcoins stored away on his computer, but the council refused to let him look for it after was tossed.

Newport City Council claims the excavation will do to too much damage to the environment[/caption]

The father-of-three had bagged up the priceless drive in a black bin liner before his girlfriend unknowingly threw it away a decade ago, where it was then chucked into a landfill.

An infuriated James attempted to work with Newport Council, Wales, to retrieve the tech but said “they don’t want to know.”

He added: “It is crazy money that could do so much good for the area.

“The council lives in the dark ages.

“Newport could have looked like Las Vegas or Dubai if they had the foresight to engage but they did not understand cryptocurrency and have refused to learn.”

The 8,000 Bitcoins lying in a rubbish tip run by Newport Council are now priced just under £83,000 per unit, which would tot up to more than £635million.

James put together a strong legal team to fight for his case, but to his dismay, it was thrown out on January 9.

The judge at Cardiff High Court threw out his bid excavate the site under the premise that there were no “reasonable grounds” for the claim.

Judge Keyser KC said there was “no realistic prospect” of succeeding at a trial, which dropped the chances of exploring the landfill to zero.

He had taken to legal action as a “last resort” and never intended to go the court route, but the council’s lack of cooperation left him no choice.

With Newport Council ignoring any requests, the 39-year-old felt it was “the only course he could take.”

As the owner of the house, he claimed it’s legal right to go and retrieve wrongly-disposed-of drive.

“I would much rather say let’s have a conversation and let’s dig and work together amicably – but they don’t want to know,” James explained.

“I have continued to try and engage with them and they’ve rejected all communication with us.”

His team claimed they could grab the stash at no extra cost to the public, but the council decided it would have too much of a “negative environmental impact.”

Despite promising to donate ten per cent of the proceeds back to Newport, just over £63.5million, the council flat out refused to help James and even accused him of using bribery.

He said: “If they had spoken to me back then about investment in crypto the whole area – the whole of South Wales – could have profited from the rise.

“But they were not intelligent enough or willing to listen to do so.”

His team has gone through extensive research on how best to retrieve the drive within environmental guidelines.

“We also have AI experts that have the tech to make the job of finding the needle in the haystack that much easier,” he added.

“I can carry out everything at no cost to the public.”

If James’ frustration was enough, he calculated that if the digital currency reached a value of £125k, his collection would increase beyond a billion pounds.

Regardless of his pleas over the years, Newport City Council is holding its ground and has refused to budge on the matter.

It said: “Newport City Council has been contacted multiple times since 2013 about the possibility of retrieving a piece of IT hardware said to be in our landfill site.

“The council has told Mr. Howells multiple times that excavation is not possible under our environmental permit, and that work of that nature would have a huge negative environmental impact on the surrounding area.

“The council is the only body authorised to carry out operations on the site.

“Mr. Howells’s claim has no merit, and the council is vigorously resisting it.”

The Sun has reached out to Newport City Council for a comment.

Love Island’s Curtis Pritchard defends ‘dumping ex girlfriend to do All Stars’ after he’s slammed as ‘fame hungry’

LOVE Island star Curtis Pritchard has defended “dumping his ex girlfriend to do All Stars” after fans branded him “fame hungry”.

In 2022, The Sun revealed Curtis, 28, had moved on from Maura Higgins with his Cinderella co-star Sophie after meeting on stage.

But The Sun revealed this week that Curtis dumped West End star Sophie just a few months before his All Stars entrance.

Curtis has now revealed that he ended the two year relationship in September because he fell out of love with Sophie.

Speaking to The Sun, Curtis said: “My dating history has been non-existent – I haven’t been on that many dates to be fair.

“I had a girlfriend just previously, obviously it didn’t work out.

“Love doesn’t always last and sometimes people fall out of love – that’s what happened with that one and that’s why I’m here now.

“I’ve not had that much dating, bar from the Love Islands and Celeb Go Dating series, I did the Mansion during lockdown.

“Bar them, I’ve not done that much dating.”

Although Curtis has come under fire for dumping Sophie TWICE for fame, the reality star insisted that he is ready for a new romance.

He shared: “I broke up with my ex just before I started my Come What May tour, so I think that was in September.

“Like I said, my last that relationship she was amazing, absolutely unbelievable and whoever she ends up with, will be a very very lucky person… she’s a fabulous girl.

“But sometimes people just fall out of love and it just wasn’t meant to be.

“So I felt ready from there to experience life and do things again.”

Curtis – who was quickly branded a villain after he brutally dumped Amy Hart on 2019 series, before recoupling with Maura Higgins – admitted he was returning to the villa with a new lease of life.

He said:  “I just feel that I’m more mature and older. I’m at different points in my life, I feel very mentally driven, physically driven in life and I just want to go into it open mindedness.

“I’m not trying to create any game plans, I’m not trying to think how I want this to go or previous times, because they were different times in my life, different people.

“I just want to go in there really open-minded and organic, I think that’s the best way to kind of hopefully create a real relationship out of this.

“If you go in there with a game plan, game plans don’t always work out – and if it doesn’t work out you feel like you’re on the backfoot, you start to do things and change things to achieve the same goal as that game plan and it just doesn’t become organic and hopefully other people will do that and you can create a real connection and if it isn’t love, hopefully it will become a great friendship.”

It comes after The Sun revealed that Curtis has quietly ended his relationship with Sophie ahead of his All Stars return.

A source said: “Curtis split from Sophie a few months ago after the pair decided they were better off as friends.

“The romance had run its course and Curtis couldn’t see the relationship going any further.

“It came at the right time, as Love Island bosses were also desperate to get him back on the show for All Stars.

“When Curtis was approached by bosses, he jumped at the chance of returning.

“He’s newly-single and loves being on telly, so getting the chance to be back in the villa and to find love again was a no brainer.

“He loved doing Love Island first time around and now that he’s single it’s come at a great time for him.”

Last year, Curtis was in a relationship with Sophie, so the option to do the spin-off was out of the question.

The pair have since deleted any trace of each other from their Instagram with Curtis hoping to find his dream woman –  six years after he dated Maura Higgins.

But fans also noticed that this was the second time Curtis had dumped Sophie – after having previously split from her in 2023, before his stint on Love Island The Games.

Taking to X/Twitter one fan made a claim this was the second time he had split from her in a bid for screen time.

The fan posted: “Curtis Pritchard dropping his girlfriend Sophie TWICE for love island games and now love island all stars is the biggest ick.

“What a fame hungry selfish man. Also she’s a fool for getting back with him the last time.

“Good luck to whoever couples up with him on the show.”

Love Island’s Marcel Somerville breaks silence on reunion with ex Gabby Allen – & defends doing All Stars while MARRIED

LOVE Island star Marcel Somerville has broken his silence on a reunion with ex Gabby Allen.

Marcel, 39, will be entering the villa alongside a slew of former Love Island stars when the show gets underway next week.

The reality star confirmed he had filed for divorce last year[/caption]

The reality star, who is still married to wife Rebecca Viera, said he filed for divorce last year but the process could take up to two years.

He stressed that he did not believe it was fair for him to put his love life on hold and should not be scrutinised for appearing on the show.

Speaking to The Sun, Marcel said: “I filed for divorce last year, we’re currently separated, I am single – but divorces can take a certain period of time.”

Marcel admitted that his estranged wife was not best pleased when she found out he had signed up to All Stars – but has now “accepted it”.

He shared: “There was no way I could go onto Love Island without telling her.

“We share a son together, I’m not going to just disappear and be puff… ‘daddy’s gone and now he’s on TV’.

“We had a conversation, it probably came as a shock to her as she probably wasn’t expecting it be a situation.

“Again in life, people make mistakes and those choices lead to people being at a crossroads.

“I was at a crossroads where I could choose to stay in a relationship that I wasn’t happy with or I could move on and try and live my life.

“If you move on, other opportunities arise, this was just something that happened.

“At the start she was like ‘you’re going to be doing this, you’re going to be doing that’, but I think she realised she was doing whatever she was doing previously and that’s what’s lead to me being at this point. She got to a point where she accepted it and it’s been very amicable since she found out.”

The former Blazin’ Squad star said he is technically “single” and think criticism about him doing the show would be unfair.

He went on to say: “To be fair, going through a divorce, it can take a while. If I’m not with someone and I’m not with a relationship with that person, is it fair for me to be like ‘okay cool, I’m not going to do anything for the next year and a half or two years until my divorce is filed and for me to start living my life again’.

“I don’t think it really works out like that.

“If me and Rebecca aren’t together and the marriage broke down, we need to move on with our lives.

“I don’t feel like I should be scrutinised for my moving on with my life, it’s something people need to do.

“If I have to wait one or two years for all the paperwork to be done, that’s me putting my life on hold for one to two years to just sit around and be unhappy.”

The older the better

Meanwhile, Marcel makes history as the oldest ever Islander at the age of 39.

The star said his age won’t hold him back in the villa – and will actually be a bonus.

“People can find love in their 50s, people can find love in their 70s, there shouldn’t be an age limit on finding love or being happy,” he said.

“It’s Love Island All Stars, I feel like everyone is going to be older than they were when they were first on the show.

“I can guarantee there are people who are in their 30s, I’m in my 30s and majority of the time girls like an older man.

“If a girl is 32 or 33, me being 39 is not really going to be a drastic age difference.”

Marcel said returning to the popular dating show has come at the right time for him – saying ” I feel like this time round I’m doing it to take me away from the negatives that happened last year and put me in a space where I can rebuild my confidence.”

The reality favourite admitted his “confidence had been knocked” after his wife admitted to “cheating” on him.

He continued: “When it first came out, my confidence was knocked. You kind of lose your worth.

“I haven’t been dating and trying to make everything amicable between me and Rebecca because we have our son.

“Just trying to create a good space we can both work in so Roman can have the best and happiest life he can have.

“I’ve been more focused on that, opposed to going out and trying to meet new partners.

“It’s 2025, it’s a new year, I’m using Love Island as a way of me diving back into the deep end of the dating pool and rebuilding that confidence and creating new connections.”

Marcel is going to be joined in the villa with his ex Gabby Allen, who he dated on series three in 2017.

The couple split shortly after leaving the villa when Marcel cheated on Gabby on holiday.

Speaking about reuniting with his former flame, Marcel surprisingly admitted he wouldn’t rule out a romantic reconciliation.

He said: “I feel like it would be pretty nice coming face-to-face with Gabby because the last time a lot happened after we came out of the villa. I made my mistakes, I put my hands up.

“But after that situation we bumped into each other and had a conversation and talked about everything and hugged it out. It was a very amicable ending to our life.

“But I haven’t seen her since that point.

“It will be nice to catch-up and see how she’s been getting on. I’ve seen that she’s had romances since but obviously we’ve both moved on and both grown.

“It would be nice to have a catch-up and be friends.”

Confirming if he’s left the door open on a romance with Gabby, Marcel said: “You can never say never. It’s all hypothetical, it would probably be more about seeing what the energy is between us and seeing if there was that spark there.

“It’s been seven years, the spark might not be reignited because what’s gone on with our past. Who knows?”

Marcel’s heartbreak

In February last year, it was revealed that Marcel had walked out on his wife Rebecca after she was accused of cheating on him with a US pop star.

The couple share a child together, who was born in 2021.

Days after the infidelity claims surfaced, Rebecca admitted to “cheating” on the Blazin Squad star and issued a grovelling apology.
