A MAN has been arrested as part of an investigation into the Creeslough tragedy in Co Donegal in 2022.
Ten people were killed when an explosion ripped through the heart of the village in Co Donegal on October 7, 2022.
The man, aged in his 60s, is reported to have presented himself at Dundalk Garda Station this morning, according to RTE.
He was arrested a short-time later for alleged reckless endangerment under the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act 1997.
Gardai have said the man remains in custody.
A spokesperson said: “The investigation into the fatal explosion at a building complex in Creeslough, County Donegal is ongoing, co-ordinated from Milford Garda Station where an Incident Room is established under the direction of a Garda Senior Investigating Officer.
“The investigation continues to be led by local Gardaí in Donegal Division, supported by the Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation (GNBCI) and other agencies including the Health & Safety Authority (HSA) and the Commission for the Regulation of Utilities (CRU).
“This morning, Thursday 20th November, 2024, investigating Gardai arrested a male, aged in his 60s, for alleged offences contrary to the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act 1997.
“This male is currently detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda station in the Garda North Western Region.”
The explosion took place at a service centre in Creeslough, Co Donegal.
The victims — four men, three women, two teenagers and a five-year-old girl — were all living in the local area.
Those who died were Robert Garwe and his five-year-old daughter Shauna Flanagan-Garwe; Catherine O’Donnell and her 13-year-old son James Monaghan; fashion student Jessica Gallagher; Celtic fan Martin McGill; Sydney native James O’Flaherty; shop worker Martina Martin; carpenter Hugh “Hughie” Kelly; and 14-year-old Leona Harper.
Garda Commissioner Drew Harris confirmed that the investigation into the Creeslough explosion was near completion in September this year.
The top cop said the probe file into the blast that ripped through an Applegreen service station on October 7, 2022 is almost ready to be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
