Amanda Serrano’s manager reveals fresh twist to fall-out from Katie Taylor defeat that could throw result into question

KATIE TAYLOR’S unanimous decision win over Amanda Serrano could be in danger of being overturned to a no contest.

The bout – gruelling sequel to their Madison Square Garden original from April 2022 – was not without controversy.

Serrano suffered a nasty cut over her right eye in the fourth round due to a clash of heads.

The gash was made worse by another head clash in the eighth round, with Taylor deducted a point.

Despite this, the Irish woman had her hand raised in victory to give herself a 2-0 lead over the Puerto Rican.

Speaking to Off The Ball, her manager Nakisa Bidarian revealed that a review was ongoing which could lead to the result being changed.

He said: “They believe they won, I believe they won.

“If you look at the Compubox stats, Amanda significantly outpunched Katie Taylor and had a higher accuracy rate.

“In fact Amanda set the record for the most punches landed in female boxing history, but put that aside, you could say to the eye of the judges or to the eyes of the consumer, the fan, the fight was pretty close.”

According to the Compubox statistics, while Serrano did outpunch KT overall, the Bray Bomber had better success rates in six of the ten rounds.

Bidarian continued: “What wasn’t close was Katie Taylor using her head to lead into the exchanges and it did result in one point being deducted.

“You could easily make an argument that Amanda could have won that fight easily because she way, way outboxed from a punch stat perspective Katie Taylor in that match up.

“But end of the day it’s the decision of the judges what the outcome is and we have to live with that.

“There is a review happening I think with the commission and MVP around the headbutting, but it’s not an intention to takeaway from what Katie achieved.

“We’re very proud of what Katie and Amanda achieved together.”

Bidarian was asked by host Eoin Sheahan about the purpose of the review.

And he responded: “Just seeing if there is a case for a no contest in this bout given the amount of headbutts that occurred throughout the evening, whether they were intentional or not.”

The Irish Sun has contacted Most Valuable Promotions and the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations for comment.

‘SHADY’

Taylor was accused of cheating in the aftermath of the fight, with fans at the AT&T Stadium booing the result.

Serrano fumed: “Katie kept headbutting me. It’s what she does, using her head, dirty — 100 per cent the headbutts were intentional.

“I knew if it went to the judges it would be shady.

“I landed 107 more punches, she got a point deducted and yet I lost 95-94.”

Her trainer Jordan Maldonado added: “If head-butting is not included and we get a fair referee, one who knows what he’s doing… there was a lot of headbutting.

“Amanda had 50 fights. The first time she ever got cut was the first fight with Taylor.”

The 2012 Olympic gold medallist rebuked those claims, while Serrano rowed back on them on social media the following morning.

She posted on X: “Congratulations to Katie.

“Tempers are flared when you’re in the heat of battle and you say things you shouldn’t say.

“I’m not one to ever disrespect an opponent and these were never my intentions to Katie.

“She and I are cool outside the ring and are the best dance partners in it.

“In no way should I ever have said she did it purposely.

“I try to be the nicest person I can be but I’m human.

“Being emotionally hurt can misguide you in what you say.

“I’m bruised and cut but still healthy.”
