‘Beautiful soul’ – Heartache as tributes pour for ‘always smiling’ young woman who died in hospital weeks after crash

HEARTBREAKING tributes have been pouring in for an “always smiling” young woman who sadly passed away after being seriously injured in a crash last month.

Jennifer O’Shaughnessy was critically injured after the car she was travelling in collided with a bus carrying children on the Cork-Limerick border on October 27.

The Cork native, who was 35-years-old, was a passenger of the car involved in the crash on the R513 at Ballylanders, Co Limerick, just 14km from Mitchelstown on the Cork to Limerick regional road.

She was transferred from the scene by helicopter to Cork University Hospital where she sadly passed away on November 15 after succumbing to her injuries.

The bus involved in the crash was carrying over 20 children at the time but none of them were seriously injured.

The Garda Siochana Ombudsman Commission is investigating the horrific crash as it is understood that the male driver was an off-duty member of the Armed Support Unit.

As is the case with any member of the force involved in a serious incident, the matter was referred to GSOC.

A notice online told how Jennifer died “peacefully” surrounded by her loving family and in the “wonderful care” of the staff at the Cork University Hospital.

She has been remembered as the “dearly beloved” daughter of Marie and Tim, the “much loved” sister of Sharyn, Laura and Emma, the “devoted” godmother of Aaron and the “loving partner” of Razvan.

A notice online read: “Jennifer will be deeply missed and always remembered by her heartbroken family and partner, brother-in-law Paul, Robert, godson Aaron, aunts, uncles, relatives, work colleagues in Eli Lilly, and a wide circle of friends.”

Mourners have remembered tragic Jennifer as a “beautiful soul” who was “always smiling”, with some telling how they have “great memories” with the young woman.

One said: “Sincere condolences to Jennifer’s family and friends on the sad and untimely passing of their beautiful Jennifer.

“I had the pleasure of knowing Jennifer through working with her on occasions in Heatons/Sports Direct. She was always smiling and fun to be around. May her gentle soul rest in peace.”

Another said: “Beautiful Jen. A wonderful, bright, funny girl taken far too soon. To your family, partner and extended circle of friends I am so sorry for your loss.”

A third described Jennifer as a “kind, bubbly and lovely person” whilst another told how her passings marks a “huge loss” to all who knew her.

A requiem mass for Jennifer will take place at 12pm today in the Church of the Way of the Cross in Togher followed by a funeral to St Patrick’s Cemetary in Crosshaven.

The funeral notice online added: “A life so beautifully lived, deserves to be beautifully remembered.”

Gardai are continuing to appeal for witnesses to contact them and the probe into the accident is ongoing.

A GSOC spokesman said: “GSOC would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the road traffic collision or saw the grey Toyota Auris car driving in the area prior to the collision, or who may have captured it on CCTV, dashcams and/or on a mobile device.

“Anyone with information which may be of assistance to the investigation is asked to contact GSOC at 0818 600 800 or info@gsoc.ie.”
