“I was feeling so awful and ashamed”: Sarah Jessica Parker Was Sobbing and Apologizing After Insecurities Got the Better of Her While Working With James Bond Pierce Brosnan

Having such a long career in the entertainment industry, Sarah Jessica Parker has seen many phases during her Hollywood journey. She started out as a child actor on Broadway and went on to make her mark on the screen by playing memorable characters such as Carrie Bradshaw in HBO’s Sex and the City.

However, despite her long-standing career in the industry, the actress has been open about feeling insecure and nervous when it comes to taking on a new role. And she had similar jitters while starring alongside the James Bond star Pierce Brosnan in the 2011 comedy film, I Don’t Know How She Does It.

Pierce Brosnan portrayed Jack Abelhammer, a potential love interest for Parker’s character. Though the actress shared that the film’s narrative inspired her to join the project, she couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed by the intense atmosphere and expectations, which she felt she could not meet.

In an interview with Vogue, she opened up about how she continues to feel nervous and insecure when it comes to her work. “I lose my appetite,” she said while explaining how her insecurities left her sobbing within the first week of production.

By Wednesday of the first week on I Don’t Know How She Does It, I was sobbing, I was apologizing. I was feeling so awful and ashamed, like I had let the director down. If only they would not tell me when the camera was running, I would be OK.

She also emphasized that it was not the first time that something like this happened to her, as she stated, “I’m like that two weeks into every movie.” However, Parker was able to overcome such intense feelings with the help of her co-star, who also felt similar nerves.

While the duo had previously worked together on the 1996 sci-fi comedy Mars Attacks!, I Don’t Know How She Does It was the first time Parker closely worked with the James Bond star.

While working with him on the 2011 comedy, Parker learned that she was not alone in feeling such intense emotions of self-doubt, as her co-star was not in a better shape either.

“When Pierce came… he was a nervous wreck! Of course, by then I was really relaxed, but I was so comforted by it,” she told Vogue. Parker also shared that she was surprised by seeing this side of the popular Hollywood star.

She told Movie Fanatic

He walks in the room with all this stuff you endow him with, the truth is he is, of course, very elegant and suave and debonair — but he is a very sweet, kind, wanting to be a good man. There’s a vulnerability to him, which was a total surprise.

The Hocus Pocus star also shared that she had a great time working with the GoldenEye star. However, the movie itself failed to do wonders, as it ended up being a box office bomb, grossing $31 million against a $24 million budget.

I Don’t Know How She Does It is available on Amazon Prime Video.
